Christine Kelly (Chris), is the founder and chairman of Little Kickers with 350 locations in 33 countries. She joins Rebecca Monet and Tracy Kawa from Malta on this episode of The Franchise Woman podcast: Where Passion & Purpose Collide. What makes Chris Kelly such a great leader? I think it's several things including her childhood upbringing, her Quaker boarding school education, being true to her values and conscious decisions she has made along the way. When asked directly what makes her a good leader Chris stated 5 specific things. One of my favorite ones, was regarding who she picks to work or partner with. Her criteria is very specific. She ONLY works with people she likes and enjoys spending time with. Shocker right? Yet, how many franchisors select franchisees (someone they will have a 10-year relationship with) solely on the basis of money, drive and/or skill? Or for that matter, how many employers have employees who get under their skin for one reason or another, yet they possess the right education, experience or skill set?
So often we use the dismissive descriptor "only" when discuss someone with a short amount of sober time. As in, "She ONLY has 6 moths". Taylor is ANYTHING but ONLY. Getting sober during a pandemic in New York City is quite the feat. Those of us who got sober pre covid can't imagine doing it on zoom. Taylor found that with the barrier lowered of walking into a room things were far more accessible than ever before. I'm so glad. What a great talk Thanks for Listening! WiseChase Podcast | Upstart Stories from Entrepreneurs & Business Tips
**WATCH** THE FULL EPISODE: https://wisechase.tv/podcast Never did I ever think that Kickstarter could actually be used to be your ongoing selling platform! I thought it was a platform to showcase the "ideas" or demo product models, where capital could be raised to crowdfund your idea AND THEN you could take your business to market. Not for Cathrin Matchin, this ex award winning video game producer, turned Glow in the Dark Space Artist, not only used Kickstarter to launch her career as an artist, it's literally her direct selling platform. With billions of websites in the world, ranking on Google is not easy and even if you become an Amazon reseller, the market is pretty competitive. So should more of us be looking at Kickstarter to try and offer our unique product or service? She raised $289,000 in 30 days from Crowdfunders! With her compelling Kickstarter campaigns, some of the largest SPACE companies in the world have taken notice to her work and have now commissioned her to create massive glow in the dark space art. Was it SpaceX or N.A.S.A? She couldn't quite tell us with who just yet, but I think there are some big projects within Cathrin's pipeline. And guess what?!... She ONLY just taught herself how to paint 2 years ago! Cathrin Matchin shares her compelling story about pivoting into the world of art and business by utilizing Kickstarter, and tearfully talks about the pressures and expectations she had put on herself, in order to value herself within her previous career. ------------------------- If you have any questions or comments, feel free to ask them on this episode on WiseChase.TV or start a conversation in our community forum at: https://wisechase.tv/wisechase-forum Leave us a review and don't forget to subscribe to the show! SERMON NOTES (click arrow to the right to open)Main Idea: To bring the Kingdom of God down, we have to LOVE our King with our whole heart. The Kingdom of God can be here when we submit ourselves to the Lord by loving Him with heart, soul, and mind. So, how do we love Him? *A grateful heart inspires overflowing love.* To be a servant or a warrior for the kingdom, we must first LOVE Him. Mark 12:30: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. Your WHOLE BEING.In Luke 10, we meet Mary and Martha - two sisters. Mary chooses to sit at the Lord's feet, a posture of one who is a disciple. God's Kingdom is looking for people like Mary, people who are lovers, who are consistently being filled by the Lord.In John 11, Lazarus (Mary and Martha's brother) dies. When Jesus comes, He calls him out of his tomb. Key things to notice about this resurrection: 1. "Lazarus, come out!" He had to COME OUT. He didn't just come back to life in the tomb and stay there. Application: We must move out into the world after the Lord brings us out of spiritual death (i.e. after we are "saved.") 2. He came out in his grave clothes, unable to move or see. Jesus sent helpers to remove these hindrances. Application: Jesus puts people in our life to help us put on our new self so that we can be free after our salvation. --- Ephesians 2:4, Romans 13:14In John 12, Mary is back at Jesus' feet, this time washing his feet with expensive perfume and her own hair. She ONLY had eyes for Jesus - was not paying any attention to those criticizing her behavior. Love makes you do crazy things. The perfume was worth one year's wages. Challenge: Would any of us give up a year's wages in one act of devotion to our King? Mary's faith was not a private, quiet one. To love him with your whole being, you can't check your emotions at the door. They have to come out. The whole house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. We need the sweet aroma of the Lord's presence to fill our homes and our churches. Mary is an example of the kind of love God expects and deserves, and this kind of love is required to spread the gospel. --- Mark 14:9Application Questions : 1. When is the last time you sat at Jesus' feet? If it wasn't today, why not? 2. Are you still wearing some of your grave clothes? Which ones, and how can you replace them with Jesus' righteousness? 3. Are you truly grateful Jesus brought you from life to death? How will you show it this week? 4. Do you love God more than anything else? What step will you take this week to show Him?
Today's exciting guest on Build Your Utopia is none other than Jamaica Winship of The Healthy Corner Store. Jamaica is an MBA graduate from USC, lives in San Diego, and found out as a young girl that she was an entrepreneur. She dove into entrepreneurship as a kid selling custom printed cards. Like many of you, she went to college right after high school and then immediately worked in a corporate position. During this time, she realized that all she was doing was making her bosses rich by working for someone else so she quit. Before starting her successful online store, she went into real estate, then into several random online businesses, then she finally arrived at her current Utopia, starting up The Healthy Corner Store while also pursuing her MBA. Jamaica's passion for providing a purpose-driven store, has led her to curating the best of the best products on her store. She ONLY stocks products that she truly believes in, has researched, potentially tried, and will even cut products if she finds that they become poor fits. She cares that much for her audience. During the show, she told us that her Utopia that she is growing her business to a point where it's on autopilot and she doesn't have to worry. Currently she's focused on building her business through expanding staff, the use of Infusionsoft, and getting media attention. Like many of you, she consistently encounters the challenge of regulating her work-life balance. As an entrepreneur, there are many occasions where work days go much, much longer than anticipated. She credits her dog and creating a schedule for the week on Sunday nights as the two factors that help her break away from working hard and building her next Utopia. Looking back, she wishes that she would have dove into her passion to help others through The Healthy Corner Store sooner. Her 3 value bombs for Utopians were: Join a mastermind group, it’s helped her out tremendously, they have changed her business through insights and accountability from others Get help FAST, you can’t do it all on your. Examples: web design, fulfillment, marketing, low level tasks Talk to people doing something similar to what you are doing but different. Example: she collaborates with a colleague who sells groceries through an e-comm store. It's helped her get ideas for improving customer service, customer satisfaction, and her supply chain. Utopian Quote of the Show "Set goals, work backwards, find what needs to happen first. Getting Done is better than perfect." Finally, she highly recommends the book Good To Great to all for identifying what Utopia they should be working towards. This book was instrumental for her to identify what her passion was, whether there was an opportunity to create a living from it, and whether she can be the best in the world at it (which she is working towards). Thanks for checking out this awesome episode with Jamaica and be sure to head over to The Healthy Corner Store to shop for some of her awesome, health-conscious products! As always, a special thank you to The Strand for our intro and outro music!
