After you've delivered a presentation, don't you love when people come up to you and say, "Great job!”? It feels good doesn't it?   Well, I used to love it, too. But then, one evening, I gave a talk that I knew was far from my best, and still, people said, "Great job!" That got me thinking.   Why are people telling me a talk was great even when I know it wasn't? The answer is a simple one. They are being polite.    If you've spoken often enough, the same has probably happened to you.   So, how can you tell the difference between a polite "Great job!" and a meaningful "Great job!"?   Perhaps you can listen for the level of enthusiasm in people's voices as they give you this compliment. But there is a way that you can not only determine when the praise is sincere but also learn why your presentation resonated with them.   When someone says, "Great job!" Awesome talk!" or anything else that indicates they liked and appreciated your efforts, respond with something like, "Thank you. I appreciate your kind words. What resonated with you most?" Or "What was your biggest takeaway?"   Their answers will tell you everything you need to know.

The Joe and Smith Podcast: Read the Book of Mormon with us

The guys are excited about the shoutout they got at the end of a recent episode of Once Upon a Mormon Podcast. They wish Bro Hyrum well on his gay marriage. Joe reiterates that he wants to be the first gay temple marriage, but doesn't want to poke fun at actual gays, just the church. Smith has seen a couple of church illustrations of JS translating the BOM into a hat. Joe takes this opportunity to compare the sheet illustrations to a translation glory hole. Joe can be so juvenile sometimes. Smith dances around some details, but gets to the point that a family member had admonished him against watching Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! (2007) with his kids. Should he read the BOM with them instead? Neither are actually suitable for children. Smith reminds us that the brethren love our women of the RS. Joe invokes Fiddler on the Roof (1971) and Smith goes down a bit of a Chaim Topol rabbit hole. Joe gets very excited to share with Smith an excerpt from Glenn Ostland's “The Fictional Apology of Joseph Smith” which he recorded under the influence of Ayahuasca. Check the link below, start at about 19 minutes in.    Joe has a story about how much of a fan his mother is of Ellen. The guys talk about the conditional love model in the BOM, as well as Rusty's general conference talk (see link below). Smith remembers being taught in seminary that a lot of NASA employees are LDS. The guys decide that Zuckerberg has done a lot for the church…maybe even for the salvation of mankind? Smith reminds us how badass God was in the last chapter. Smith got Garfiel'd on Dr Who the other day. The BOM has more disturbing content than T&E. Isaiah has a mama dis. Joe can't stop talking about laser hair removal.  Smith floats the idea of a patreon and Joe makes a dad joke. Smith reads more from the chapter and Joe finds it necessary to apologize for wasting the listener's time. The guys don't love to make definitive statements, but they both agree that nobody should ever read 2 Nephi 7 ever again.    Mormons on Mushrooms Podcast 28: Infants on Mormons on Mushrooms on Thrones https://www.mormonsonmushrooms.com/podcast/episode/4dacf262/28-infants-on-mormons-on-mushrooms-on-thrones  Russel M Nelson Divine Love  “divine love…cannot correctly be characterized as unconditional” https://abn.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ensign/2003/02/divine-love?lang=eng&adobe_mc_ref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.churchofjesuschrist.org%2Fstudy%2Fensign%2F2003%2F02%2Fdivine-love%3Flang%3Deng&adobe_mc_sdid=SDID%3D5398AB9BA629B12E-5790299054E90DEA%7CMCORGID%3D66C5485451E56AAE0A490D45%2540AdobeOrg%7CTS%3D1652217199   Zuckerberg's sunscreen  https://nypost.com/2020/07/19/mark-zuckerberg-surfboards-in-hawaii-with-way-too-much-sunscreen/  Ooh Mamma | Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!  https://youtu.be/oOgpnidwPiQ    Email us at joeandsmithpod@gmail.com Music Provided by Eric VanAusdal with permission from the artist. It's not actually all that hard to tell when Tim Heidecker is kidding and when he's not, but it does take a little bit of practice. When he's performing on shows like Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! or Tim & Eric's Bedtime Stories, it's comedy. When he acts in comedic movies, sure, that's comedy as well. But on albums such as his new one, High School, you don't need to listen carefully for the punchline because there isn't one. He's not trying to fake you out with his music, he's giving it you straight as a singer/songwriter with a bit of a 1970's sheen to it.Tim says he's never been diagnosed with depression but he's had some rough times. He talks about losing close friends to drugs and alcohol and he talks about an incident several years ago when he got stabbed by someone he knew.We talk to Tim about comedy, tragedy, and whether a clinical diagnosis of a particular disorder is really all that necessary when dealing with the dark parts of life.Pre-order Tim Heidecker's new album High School, out June 24, 2022 on Spacebomb Records, here. The Joe and Smith Podcast: Read the Book of Mormon with us

Smith leads off with a beautiful prayer. The garbage truck is busy in Joe's neighborhood. Smith tells us a Tesla tale. A guy tried to run a speaker-selling scam on Smith at a gas station…twice. Joe reminisces about a pot edible inspiring a vengeance plot for Bindi Irwin. Smith asks a Beatles question and gets a long answer. The guys talk about accents and document forging. It's an easy trail to follow after that- Mark Hoffman, Jared Hess, Jackie Chan, Tim and Eric- obviously. The guys go down a rabbit hole of former or dissident mormons (formons).  Chan: 'Not Jackie Chan' | Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! | Adult Swim https://youtu.be/WN71h43iR6U   Music Provided by Eric VanAusdal with permission from the artist. Let it all float away, mama. All those worries, concerns or stresses you may be feeling about whether or not you're being a good mom. All those judgements that may be coming at you - whether they're from others or yourself...let them all go. Even those quiet whispers that wonder how your kids will turn out as adults...let them go. And instead, sit in this truth. You're doing a great job, mama. And you are a phenomenal mother. And your little ones are so blessed to have you. No matter how many mistakes you make. No matter how unique your style of parenting. No matter how many times you've broken down. You are doing a great job. So the intention of today's meditation is to give you the space to swim in the greatness of your mothering. So you can embrace the beauty of its imperfection and honor yourself for showing up every day. JOURNAL PROMPTS: What came up for you as you saw your child 20 years older in front of you? How did you feel when your child hugged you with appreciation? List all the ways you are an amazing mom. Don't edit, just write. Examples: I laugh a lot with my girls. I do my best to create fun adventures for them. I encourage my girls to be close with each other.

He discusses the roots of inflation, high gas prices and the fight to unionize workers at corporations that are anti-union—like Starbucks. Also, he explains how influential SCOTUS is in employment cases, in arbitration and in upholding corporate power, as the confirmation hearings for Ketanji Brown Jackson commence.
