We're rockin' the suburbs on this month's Talking Taker as we finally cover The Undertaker's cinematic debut! Join wrestling superfans Alex Doriot and Travis White on their encyclopedic exploration digging up The Dead Man as we take our time-traveling hearse back to 1991 to cover the cult classic film "Suburban Commando" starring Hulk Hogan, Christopher Lloyd, Shelley Duvall, and, yes, Mark Calaway as a bounty hunter trying to hunt down the international space agent Shep Ramsey. Our Pod Street Krew has been begging us to cover this movie for years and boy did it deliver! We'll break down all the insanity including Hulk rapping on the soundtrack, the nighttime street mime, freeze ray guns, the absolutely bonkers rapid timeline of the movie, Shep's incredible wardrobe, Larry Miller stealing the show, drunk Army captains, flying skateboards, and, of course, Taker's infamous one line of "dialogue" in the movie. Plus we read some 5 star reviews from Amazon, share some behind the scenes trivia, and answer the age-old debate: is "Suburban Commando" a Christmas movie?! All that and we take a look back at the year of Undertaker Sightings in 2024 including his blockbuster WrestleMania run-in and his role in the Presidential election. Download, enjoy, and Taker Easy!    Today's episode is brought to you by "Reconstruction", the new full length album from Travis White! Hello Ladies & Gentlemen, Welcome to the Undisputed Wrestling Podcast.  Welcome to our podcast series called "Wrestling With Film" where every month we'll be reviewing a movie that has featured professional wrestlers. "The Undisputed Rev" James Woolford is joined by "John Cena's Biggest Fan" Callum Hogan & an our very special guest "Inside The Ropes Own" Kenny McIntosh to review the 1991 film Suburban Commando which features wrestlers such as Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker.  Suburban Commando is a 1991 American science fiction comedy film starring Hulk Hogan, Christopher Lloyd, Mark Calaway and Shelley Duvall. Burt Kennedy directed the film based on a screenplay by Frank Cappello. The film was originally titled Urban Commando, and was intended for Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger. When these two opted to make Twins (1988), the script was bought by New Line Cinema as the follow-up to another Hulk Hogan film, No Holds Barred. Shep Ramsey is an interstellar hero, righting wrongs, et cetera. His ship is damaged after a fight with an interstellar nasty, and he must hide out on Earth until it can recharge. He leaves his power suit at home, but still finds himself unable to allow wrongs to go unrighted, and so mixes it up with bad drivers, offensive paperboys, muggers and the like. Then the family, with which he's staying, finds his power suit, and the father tries it on. (Written by John Vogel) Follow us on Twitter @TheUWPodcast and on Facebook @UWPodcast. Suburban Commando was a 1991 family-friendly comedy starring Hulk Hogan, Christopher Lloyd, and Shelly Duval. Hulk Hogan stars as Shep Ramsey, an intergalactic bounty hunter that seeks refugee on Earth after his space ship is damaged. Lessons are learned, characters grow, and mimes are hurt in gratuitous ways. It’s fun for the whole family!Suburban Commando was Hulk Hogan’s attempt at mainstream movie stardom. After becoming an ‘80s pop culture icon and the biggest star that wrestling and WWF had produced up to that point (based largely on his appearance in Rocky III as Thunderlips), the next place that Hulkamania wanted to run wild on was your movie screens. No Holds Barred wasn’t the platform that provided that boost, so maybe a cameo in Gremlins 2: The New Batch and a family-oriented comedy featuring proven actors would help.Just as Hogan paved the way for future wrestlers to transcend the square circle, did he also make the Hollywood transition easier for guys like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Cena?If you’re a fan of vintage WWF or current WWE, it’s worth checking out this movie for the rare out-of-character performance from The Undertaker. The Dead Man plays a silent bounty hunter who is trying to capture Shep Ramsey…but this bounty hunter has a reason for his silence: he sounds like a baby when he talks. Suburban Commando – Not Even Hulk Hogan Skateboarding in Zubaz Could Save This Movie

Few wrestlers have transcended the sport of professional wrestling. Sure, you've got the Rock and Batista now, but during the 80s, the business was still an oddity. It was a culture within itself. Then came the boom of the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE). Their rise was a swift one, but it could not have come without stars. And in the 80s—even into the late 90s—there was no bigger star than Hulk Hogan. In the early 80s, Hogan had appeared in the box office behemoth Rocky III as "Thunder Lips" and even graced the cover of Sports Illustrated. He was a face recognizable to not only fans, but general audiences. Thus, in 1989, Hogan was catapulted into his first starring role on the big screen No Holds Barred. The movie was a modest hit, grossing over $16 million on an $8 million budget. Its success, though, came with notoriety; enough that Hogan would be selected for another high profile part—that of Shep Ramsey in Suburban Commando.  Unlike his previous film, Suburban Commando—a fish out of water tale of an intergalactic warrior forced into a vacation on earth—failed to make a profit, grossing only $8 million on a budget of $11. Despite its earned infamy as a flop, its a movie that must be seen; it's an unapologetic, ridiculous B-movie that works simply because of how committed Christopher Lloyd (Doc Brown from Back to the Future) is to the shtick. I can't say that you'll love it, but you'll sure find plenty to laugh at (a good bit of it unintentionally)—Shep punching a mime, skateboarding in Zubaz, and engaging in a clash with a yet to premiere in the WWE Undertaker included. So sit back, grab a spare vial of anti-freeze, and enjoy as I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), and the Irate Lover embark on a podcasting adventure to not only save the neighborhood, but the galaxy at large. This Week's Segments: Introduction – Our general reaction to the film and lingering questions we have.
