In this episode of In the Key of Q, Dan Hall speaks with Ben McGarvey, who performs as Minute Taker. Ben's music is characterized by a signature blend of retro synth-pop, haunting piano melodies, and emotionally charged lyrics that explore the depth of human experience.Episode SummaryBen opens up about the origins of his stage name "Minute Taker" – a reference to his former day job that created an ironic contrast with his artistic identity. He describes it as "simultaneously mundane and otherworldly," reflecting the dual nature of his creative life. The conversation traverses Ben's musical evolution from a teenager in the 90s who was drawn to 80s synth music to his current work creating atmospheric, emotionally resonant songs. Ben reflects on how living in rural Shropshire as a young gay man shaped his relationship with music as a form of escape and self-expression.Throughout the episode, Ben courageously discusses his experiences with depression and how this has informed the melancholic quality of his music. Rather than viewing this melancholia as something negative, he explores how it can be "so beautiful" and serves as a connective tissue between artist and listener.Key Moments02:59 - Ben discusses his musical influences growing up, including Kate Bush, Pet Shop Boys, Tori Amos, and PJ Harvey07:47 - Reflections on growing up as a gay child in rural Britain during the Section 28 era09:35 - Ben shares his early songwriting experiences and how music became a form of escape16:46 - Discussion about representation and the importance of addressing songs explicitly to men22:46 - Ben speaks candidly about his experiences with depression and how it manifests24:44 - The evolution of Ben's work into audiovisual projects, including his concept album exploring gay men's lives throughout history28:32 - Details about his upcoming album "The Oblivion," inspired by Blade Runner and 80s sounds34:20 - Information about Ben's subscription service for fans to access exclusive musicGuest BioBen McGarvey is a Manchester-based musician who performs under the name Minute Taker. His work blends retro synth sounds with piano and emotional lyrics to create atmospheric, often melancholic music. Beyond traditional albums, Ben has expanded into audiovisual projects that explore LGBTQ+ experiences throughout history. His most recent album "Wolf Hours" included an accompanying visual narrative, and he's currently finishing his new album "The Oblivion."Gateway TrackBen recommends "Lead You Home," the opening track from his album "Wolf Hours," as the perfect introduction to his music. The song encapsulates his recent musical direction with its melancholic, synthy, and atmospheric qualities while remaining catchy. The accompanying music video alternates between scenes set in the 1980s and 1918, telling the story of two World War I soldiers.Gateway TrackMinute Taker website. In the Key of Q celebrates queer musicians and their stories. Send us a textWe explore premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a frequently misunderstood and misdiagnosed condition that therapists should understand for their licensing exams. PMDD is characterized as a severe form of PMS that significantly disrupts daily functioning with symptoms emerging during the luteal phase and improving shortly after menstruation begins.• PMDD must be distinguished from other mood disorders by its cyclical pattern• DSM criteria require at least five symptoms present in the week before menses, improving within days after onset• Symptoms include marked affective lability, irritability, depression, anxiety, decreased interest in activities, and physical symptoms• PMDD typically emerges after puberty with peak incidence in late 20s to early 30s• Symptoms abate during pregnancy but typically return after delivery• Common comorbidities include mood disorders, anxiety disorders, borderline personality disorder, and eating disorders• First-line treatments include SSRIs and hormonal contraceptives• Cognitive behavioral therapy shows strong outcomes for managing symptoms• Assessment tools like the Daily Record of Severity of Problems help track symptoms over multiple cycles• A multimodal approach combining medication, therapy, and lifestyle modifications is most effectiveRemember that PMDD is in the DSM and represents a severe condition with significant functional impairment that distinguishes it from more common premenstrual symptoms. If you need to study for your national licensing exam, try the free samplers at: LicensureExamsThis podcast is not associated with the NBCC, AMFTRB, ASW, ANCC, NASP, NAADAC, CCMC, NCPG, CRCC, or any state or governmental agency responsible for licensure.

The Marceline takeover nears its end as the Oh My Glob crew discuss "Stakes" parts 6 and 7!For Amy's episode predictions, we present... Caroline's Handy Dandy Grading Rubric: Does the prediction contain the same characters as the actual episode? If I worked at A.T. corp. would I produce this episode idea? How much creative effort was put forth while coming up w/ this prediction? Do the prediction and the actual ep. follow the same archetype (i.e. love & loss, heroic adventure, self-discovery, etc.)? Would this story aide in the development of the overall plot and/or character development? Do the events of the story seem plausible in regard to character traits (i.e. It would not be plausible for Finn to do something evil)? Does a similar story line occur at some later point in the show? Has a similar story line already occurred in a previously reviewed episode?Rate us on Apple Podcasts! itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/oh-my-glob-an-adventure-time-podcast/id1434343477?mt=2Facebook: facebook.com/ohmyglobpodcastContact us: ohmyglobpodcast@gmail.comAnd that Twitter thing: https://twitter.com/ohmyglobpodcastAmy: https://twitter.com/moxiespeaksTrivia Theme by Adrian C.

Send me a Text Message! So many, not all, but so many leaders reject(ed) Jesus. Why is that? I think one of the reasons people reject Jesus is because they think he (and God) is a taker and not a giver. Isn't that one of the reasons why people reject Jesus? We have this idea that I can do life better; I can live more, get more, succeed more without Jesus in the picture. Jesus is a taker. He wants to take my fun, take my money, take my friends, take my plans, and in return for that he'll let bad things happen to me. Do you understand the ultimate statement behind this view of God, this view of Jesus? I can't trust him. Dr. R.T. Kendall, calls it "The Betrayal Barrier." It's that moment when God seems to let us down and we have to decide, "can I trust Jesus? Is Jesus a giver or a taker?
