In this episode, Nick and Vaughn dive deep into Hulk Hogan's in-ring debut in World Championship Wrestling at WCW's Bash at the Beach 1994 in Orlando. It was the dawning of a new era in WCW, "Wrestling is cool again" as Tony Schiavone would put it before signing off for the night. WCW wasted no time to deliver Hulk Hogan vs. Ric Flair - whereas Vince McMahon was scared off by making it the main event of WrestleMania VIII. And, man, was it ever a home run for WCW. Sorg Sorg learned that one of the most entertaining “Pure Wrestling” matches he has seen was Mansoor versus Daddy Magic in Ring of Honor. The wrestlers appeared confused by—or intentionally resistant to—the Pure rules. They avoided the traditional handshake, quickly exhausted rope breaks and found ridiculous ways to incorporate a chair without technically using it as a weapon. The match demonstrated that the Pure Wrestling format can support comedy and experimentation without completely abandoning its established rules. REWIND TIME.Hulk Hogan was out the door, but Vince McMahon needed a new American Hero for his audience to cheer for against the WWF Champion, Yokozuna. Enter Lex Luger, who made his babyface turn on the deck of the U.S.S. Intrepid in New York City. With multiple professional wrestlers, and even some professional athletes, failing to bodyslam Yokozuna, Luger became the hero we all deserved. I guess. Luger never won the championship, but this day marked the beginning of the Lex Express.
