We’ve all seen the moon in its full and beautiful glory, but there are times when the shadows of life only allow you to see a sliver of the moon. In those desperate and hard times you may wonder if the moon is still in fact round.  Sometimes you might question if the full light is still there.  But I’m here to tell you- if you remain faithful, patient, and steadfast, the moon will absolutely show its magnificence again (every 29.5 days to be exact).  You see, it was always there, fully round the entire time! It was your perspective from where you were that made it seem less than.  God is ALWAYS there for us. “I will never leave you comfortless, I will come to you.”

We were so blessed when an incredible teen named Sam Johnson reached out to share his story of growing up with a mother who was diagnosed with M.S. before he was born, was physically impaired for most of his life, and passed away this last year. We were blown away with the positivity and perspective that Sam clearly learned from his mother who lived a beautiful and full life. Sam found so many life lessons from his mother, his family, and friends as he went through an unthinkable life challenge in his young life. As we listened to his story it just drove home how our attitude and our gratitude is so important as we journey through this life. I'm God's Favorite with Shana Blackburn (ENCORE!)

This episode is one of Tawni's FAVORITES! It's the episode she tells any new listener to start with. We knew we had to encore the episode to share it with our new listeners! Have you ever heard of confirmation bias? Confirmation bias is a psychology term used to help explain why we naturally favor information that confirms our preexisting beliefs or biases. We are always seeking proof that further backs up our beliefs while discounting examples that don't support our idea.  We do this without even recognizing that we are doing it!  For example: You may have heard that left-handed people are more creative than right-handed people.  Whenever you encounter a person that is both left-handed and creative you may place greater importance of this "evidence" that supports that thought you already believe. On the other hand, when you meet a creative right-handed individual you may just discount or overlook this experience entirely.   In this episode Tawni discusses with her dear friend Shana Blackburn, many fun and interesting examples of confirmation biases and how they can really impact your life.  When you look for something you are going to find it! This can be dangerous if our biases are focused on something negative. Whatever we choose to focus on you will find evidence of.  Shana is a wonderful example of using positive biases to impact her life for good.  She explains how she can use her personal mantra of: "I'm God's favorite", so freely and undoubtedly. It was so insightful and inspiring to hear how her positive attitude has helped her overcome very difficult situations in her life. She encourages us all to look for evidence that you too are God's favorite child! When we look for him in the details of our lives we will always find him.  "What you think you become, what you feel you attract, what you imagine your create." Back in episode #63- Toxic Perfectionism, we interviewed a young woman who discussed how she struggled with a form of an eating disorder. That episode got a great response and is one of our most downloaded episodes.  We knew that we needed to continute to break stigmas and provide a place that we can discuss and dive deeper into difficult topics.  We were lucky enough to have the incredible Tony Young open up her heart and share with us the difficutlies of recovering from an eating disorder and all of the life lessons she learned along the way. We talk about how eating disorders are very rarely simply about body image and self confidence, they often stem from somewhere deeper; such as feeling a lack of control in your life.  It is important to self evaluate and to find healthy ways to deal with our feelings rather than letting our stress escalate into something harmful and addictive.  Our bodies are an incredible gift that we need to love and cherish- we only get one and it is so important to take care of it. In this episode you will learn different ways to educate yourself about prevention and will be able to learn from the many life lessons that Tony was able to pull from this experience even decades later.

We were surprised to find how passionate we were about the intellectual category of the 4 Areas to Improve Your Personal Growth Series.  The word intellectual can be summed up by how we learn, find truth, and expand ourselves; which is basically what 'Becoming' is all about! We discuss the spritual reasons behind why focusing on growing intellectually is so important as well as all of the temporal purposes.  We often think of growing intellectually as traditional education such as school or college; as much as those things are so valuable, education doesn’t begin and end in a classroom. We can learn new skills, we can learn from books, we can seek education and should always seek it.  Tawni shares a personal story about how a missed opportunity in college could have prepared her for a future that only God could see for her. We also discuss the growth mindset, as well as talk about different ideas for skills you should think about learning before graduating highschool and leaving home.  We hope what you learn in this episode will help open your mind to the importance of growing and learning both temporally and spiritually.
