    Why is it so hard for healthcare educators to share what they actually think in a debriefing or feedback situation? Jenny shares the story of a participant in an anesthesia clinical simulation who helped guide her to be more transparent: “I'm often talking to providers on the worst day of their career, after a medical error has occurred. If I'm going to ask them to be honest with me about what they were thinking, the least I can do is be honest about what I'm thinking.” Over the years training faculty in feedback conversations, we've run into many who ask, how is it helpful to tell my learner that I think they're an idiot? But telling the person what you think honestly should not be your feelings or attributions about their character. It should be the impact of their actions, which exist at the level of concrete data.     Somewhat Discombobulated!, Workout to burn 600 caloriesI headed out feeling a bit scattered, but the trail settled me down quickly. I moved through all five heart-rate zones as I covered just under 6 km in a little under an hour. My pace stayed easy and steady, even when a few harder surges pushed me toward the top of my range. By the end, I had burned just over 600 calories and found a comfortable rhythm. I finished feeling great, glad I showed up for the effort.

    In this episode, we are joined by Dr. Ebonie Rio. She is a senior Clinical Researcher at La Trobe University's Sport & Exercise Medicine Research Centre in Melbourne. With hands-on experience as a physiotherapist for Olympic and Paralympic teams, the Australian Institute of Sport, and the Australian Ballet Company, she bridges elite sports practice with rigorous scientific research. Vikas & Ebonie discussed in detail about tendons, their role in the body, how to strengthen them & how to avoid running related injuries. Here are some key takeaways:Don't stretch your Achilles when it's sore - Stretching compresses the tendon against the heel bone and can worsen pain. Instead, focus on strengthening exercises like calf raises.Tendon pain isn't inflammation - The swelling is actually water buildup from stressed tendon cells, which is why ice and anti-inflammatories don't help. Exercise is the best treatment. Every runner needs calf strength - Do 25 single-leg calf raises from flat ground (not off a step) with good alignment. This protects your Achilles, plantar fascia, and improves running efficiency.Flat feet aren't a curse - Foot shape doesn't increase injury risk or limit your running ability. Calf weakness, not flat feet, is the real culprit behind most lower leg pain.Space out high-impact sessions - Tendons need time between running sessions to adapt and recover.     When we lead a conversation where we only bring our conclusions and inferences to the table, rather than the concrete data that helped lead us there, we are influencing (sometimes unjustly) what is even discussable among our teams. By going back down to discussing the data that helped us shape those conclusions, we can make conversations and meetings more fair, more equal, and more productive. Workout of the week: Note when you have gone up the ladder of inference to a conclusion about a person and perhaps lost track of the data that led you there. Then, go back down and incorporate the data into an observation. Example: “She was defensive” is an inference or conclusion.
