Brian and I have spoken at length(!) about posture, alignment, balance, mobility, strength and coordination but we haven't put it in the context of how you as a mover or movement teacher take that information and use it with your clients. In this episode we connect the dots between what you observe, how you identify key elements to improve and how you help the client feel the change so they can incorporate it into their everyday lives. This may be the most useful of all our episodes because this is the secret sauce to effective and efficient teaching!Moving Conversation Socials Brian's Book on Low Back Pain and Conditions: Back Exercise; Stabilize, Mobilize and Reduce Pain https://a.co/d/8IUb7L6 Email: movingconvos@gmail.com IG: @movingconvos FB: Moving Conversations Brian IG: @fit4lifedc FB: https://www.facebook.com/brianrichey/ Nora IG: nora.s.john.7 FB: https://www.facebook.com/nora.s.john.7

You're eating healthy, you're getting your workouts in… so why isn't the scale moving? If you've ever asked yourself that question (maybe more than once), this episode is here to bring clarity, not shame. Because the truth is: your body isn't broken. But there are some sneaky reasons progress might be stalling — and most of them have nothing to do with how hard you're working. In this episode, I'm walking you through 8 common reasons women don't see results even when they feel like they're doing everything right — and exactly how to fix them. We're getting into: Why consistency might not be as solid as you think (and how to track it without obsessing) The problem with cardio-only routines — and why strength is your secret weapon What progressive overload is and how to apply it for real results How protein supports fat loss, metabolism, and muscle building When hormones (like cortisol, insulin, and thyroid) could be slowing you down The role of daily movement outside your workouts (hello, NEAT!) Why the scale doesn't tell the full story, and better ways to measure progress How sleep and stress could be the missing pieces in your transformation If you've been feeling stuck, defeated, or ready to throw in the towel — this is your sign to zoom out, take a deep breath, and finally understand what your body really needs.

In part two of our special two-part episode, we return to the 1982 VHS tape that created the at-home video industry: Jane Fonda's Workout. On this episode, originally released in 2020, we deconstruct the tape itself, how it was made, and why anyone thought it was a good idea in the first place. Then we'll explore how it was possible for an extremely polarizing political activist, despised by some for her activism during the Vietnam War, to become America's premier exercise guru. It's a story that involves one enterprising home video visionary, dozens of ridiculous celebrity workout tapes, Tricky Dick Nixon, and one very full life. Some of the voices you'll hear on this episode include Jane Fonda; Court Shannon, former Karl Video employee; and Mary Hershberger, author of Jane Fonda's War. This episode was written by Willa Paskin. It was edited and produced by Benjamin Frisch. We had research assistance from Cleo Levin. Decoder Ring is produced by Katie Shepherd, Max Freedman, and Evan Chung, our supervising producer. Merritt Jacob is Senior Technical Director. If you have any cultural mysteries you want us to decode, email us at DecoderRing@slate.com, or leave a message on the Decoder Ring hotline at 347-460-7281. The pressure to bounce back after having a baby is everywhere—and while it's sold as motivating, it often does more harm than good. I know this firsthand. As a younger fitness professional and first-time mom, I felt the weight of those expectations: to fit back into my clothes, to run again, to feel “like myself” as quickly as possible. But the reality didn't match the highlight reels I saw online, and it left me exhausted, frustrated, and fighting against my own healing. In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on why the bounce-back mentality is both unrealistic and unhealthy—and what to focus on instead. I'll share powerful mindset shifts, eye-opening stats about postpartum recovery, and why rebuilding is the smarter, kinder, and more sustainable path forward. If you've ever felt pressure to get your body “back,” this conversation will bring you the freedom and encouragement you need to let go of the bounce back—and embrace the rebuild process.[FREE WORKSHOP] Back to Strength: Postpartum Workshop & Workout on Thursday 9/11/25 at 11am ETOther Links:Work with me 1-on-1: Learn more and applyFollow along on Instagram: @strongmamawellnessLearn more about my work on the website

When we've tried all the diets, the rigorous training programs, expensive supplementation and still feel like we cannot climb the mountain of aesthetic or health hopes, it might be time to look inward rather than outward. This introspection is one of the most avoided, yet vital, steps in truly making a lifestyle change. It goes beyond dropping a few pounds for that vacation or slimming down for a wedding. Instead of looking outward again (new diet, new program, more supps, new trainer, different gym, etc.) we must take the uncomfortable, potentially dark, look inward. It's painful because it involves coming to a legitimate realization that our harmful eating habits stem from places we don't like to discuss or question: societal/cultural conditioning, upbringing, scarcity, traumatic events, low self-worth, mental/emotional disorders, etc. This realization, then the subsequent unlearning and habitual rewiring, is a process that cannot be solved by simply trying another new diet. It may involve cognitive therapy, self-forgiveness, medication, or even an intervention. This can be related to both overeating and undereating. If we're not moving in the right direction with our health and eating habits, it's because the unhealed roots are still firmly in place, and without addressing these roots and severing them, we go nowhere.(I'm not qualified to diagnose nor address any psychological/behavioral issues, this is strictly awareness content.)Contact Mike:Mike Sinopoli - NASM Certified Nutrition CoachInstagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn: @mfswellnessemail: mike@mfswellness.comphone: 630-361-4907www.mfswellness.com

In 1982, the Jane Fonda Workout became the best-selling home video of all time. Over decades, it and its 22 follow ups would spawn a fitness empire, sell more than 17 million copies, and transform Fonda into a leg-warmer-clad exercise guru. And 40 years after its initial release, when the COVID pandemic hit, the workout had a moment yet again. People began doing it alone and on Zoom, tweeting about it, writing about it. So when Jane Fonda agreed to talk to us, we set out to do an episode about it—but it did not go as planned. On Part 1 of a special two-part Decoder Ring, originally released in 2020, we explore the decades-long relationship of Jane Fonda and Leni Cazden, a fraught friendship that birthed the VHS workout that changed the world. It's a story of creation, fame, forgiveness, trauma, betrayal, survival, politics, and exercise. You'll hear from Jane Fonda and Leni Cazden, the brain behind the workout, and Shelly McKenzie, author of Getting Physical: The Rise of Fitness Culture in America. In two weeks we'll return with Part 2: the nitty gritty story of the bestselling VHS tape of all time. We love to hear any and all of your ideas for the show. Sources for This Episode Burke, Carol. Camp All-American, Hanoi Jane, and the High-and-Tight, Beacon Press, 2005. Fonda, Jane.
