I'm so excited to share this special 20 min episode stack as a highlight with a powerful message. I'm publishing this curation to help you make the most of your time. The episode features segments from the episode 040, 041, & 042 featuring my wife, Natalie Norton and the following Aftercast & Solocast. https://richie.libsyn.com/natalie-norton-how-to-show-up-in-times-of-uncertainty ====== Richie Norton interviews Natalie Norton (his amazing wife) about all thing life, hardship and showing up in times of uncertainty. This podcast will take you deep into creating happiness even in the hardest times and creating a space without ego. You'll love this episode and after listening you'll feel a greater brightness of hope to shine your light.   Of Natalie, Richie says: This one is legit. When I met @natalienortonshe had been on a university dance scholarship, certified instructor in yoga, Tai Chi & palates + had just gotten back from volunteering at an orphanage in Ecuador. She's an emotional first responder. I remember when she came home late from picking up the kids, because she was comforting someone on the side of the road who had just accidentally killed someone in an accident. This kind of thing isn't unusual for Nat. She's raised 7 children. 3 are still w/ us. 3 are in the world somewhere. 1 is in heaven. Our firstborn came when Nat was only 21. Nat & I married young, so we've been together about as long as we grew up in our own childhood homes—almost 18 years.  We've recycled cans to make ends meet. She won an Emmy for a documentary about life after loss. She's been taken advantage of by idiots, but is NEVER a doormat. She's an award winning, international bestselling author. In all the ups & downs, Nat has given our kids more than love, compassion & caring...she's given them her time. She's given them her attention. She's given them perspective. A perspective that guides them in strength & will guide the future generations as well. Through challenges: autoimmune, death of her brother, death of our son, miscarriages, stroke, accidents, tragedies, navigating the tragic foster system, failed adoptions, & on & on, she's given our kids bright hope. She's given me bright hope (I should also be counted as a child—my kids are better at parenting me than I am at parenting them!)  I tear as I think of her pouring love into the THOUSANDS of you who reach out to her EVERY DAY for advice on how to navigate your own lives. She takes every message seriously & spends her life helping you, while she helps me, while she helps the kids, while she helps as a first responder to any hardship around her.... all while she sits on her tippy toes, writing a book.  My dancer wife @natalienorton has mastered the art of living on her toes—always ready to spring to action—gracefully dancing through the good times, the grief times & the grit times.   Natalie Norton is a writer, speaker and personal and business development consultant. Her work has been featured across many different genres in both national and international publications. These publications—print and online—include: The Huffington Post, CNN, Forbes, InStyle and many more. She is co-author of the bestseller, The Power of Starting Something Stupid, which won the prestigious San Francisco Book Festival in 2013. How is progressing going for you? Is it all over the place, back and forth, kind of a mess? GOOD. Progress is messy. All month long we are talking about what that looks like and how to deal with it. So what if you feel stuck, and need to know how to get out of a funk? The answer is simple – it’s you! And this episode contains the tools you need to show up for yourself.   Natalie Norton, retired photographer turned podcaster and life coach, holds little back as she reveals the depths of her grief and struggles. From a health crisis, to the death of her son and brother, then a failed adoption, she knows life gets messy. And as a result, she shares her personal insight into how to get out of a funk.   Her tips range from personal hygiene to self-awareness, and include steps to achieving both. Yes, sometimes even getting in the shower takes motivation – and that’s OK. Natalie also touches on how to know when you’re in more than a funk, and where to go from there. But, the center of her message is the same and it really only takes you showing up for yourself.   If you’re afraid of getting your hands dirty, you’re not alone, so here’s permission to get messy. Stretch yourself, seek growth, get out of your funk and makes mistakes along the way. Give yourself compassion (Natalie talks about that, too!) as you move forward in whatever way that looks like for you.   About a few other things...   In my efforts to embrace my inner hippie, I took a good hard look at the skin and makeup products I was using every day. It's important to me that they are clean, and in that search I found and love using Beauty Counter. They are high quality, effective, and free of lots of nasty ingredients that other products contain. #49. RICHIE NORTON SOLOCAST MINI-TRAINING: Can it hurt to ask? Yes it can. Mission matching is a term Richie and Natalie Norton coined to explain how to ask as a giver, not a taker to collaborate with others on your dreams...and advance their dreams simultaneously. Mission matching is an ask that creates synergistic congruence (aka win-win) between missions. Don't be a "you scratch my back" guy. That's transactional. Don't be a taker. Learn how to ask for help, find mentors, collaborate and create joint-ventures by helping others first...without expecting anything in return...through mission matching. Be a giver. Play the long game by creating transformational relationship, transformational experiences and a transformational lifestyle through mission matching. Mission Matching is detailed in Richie and Natalie's book The Power of Starting Something Stupid. When you match your ask with their mission everyone wins. #42. RICHIE NORTON SOLOCAST MINI-TRAINING: Richie goes solo and shares with you how to help your kids increase confidence by increasing your own. There are way too many adults scared to go anywhere they haven't been or do anything important because they feel uncomfortable. Tragic. If we want confident kids, we have to teach them how to be comfortable when they are uncomfortable….then we'll have confident adults that raise confident children. Richie also shares tips from Natalie Norton -- people ask Nat, "How have you stayed so close to your boys as they've gotten older?" Natalie Norton says, "MAKE SURE THEY KNOW THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY AND UNCONDITIONALLY LOVED." Learn how Richie and Natalie parent and how Richie was parented -- Richie says, "My mom raised me to fly. Author, speaker, and life coach Natalie Norton’s life has been put through the ringer. She is no stranger to pain. Tragedy began with the unexpected death of her younger brother in 2007. After this event, her life slowly unraveled over the next few years with the death of her youngest son, a failed adoption of 3 beautiful children who had been living in Natalie’s home for 2 years when the state unexpectedly reunified them with their biological mother. Furthermore, a sudden ‘brain surge’/seizure left Natalie unable to communicate, remember her own name or identify her children as her own. Most recently, her 11 year old son was struck by a a compact SUV while crossing the street — leaving him no option but to spend a month in the ICU. Today, his recovery is still ongoing. This unbelievably painful sequence of events is a mapping of Natalie’s life that, miraculously, has lead her to conclude that it’s worth sticking around for the miracle. In this conversation, Branden and Natalie delve deep into the truth of why a personal commitment to passion and drive changes everything and the idea that our lives are meant to be so much more than the pain inside of it.
