Leadership in the fire service is needed not just when it’s convenient, but at all times. No matter what’s on your collar, stop thinking about you and start thinking about the team! This podcast is in my opinion a motivation for firefighters to get off th
We love this job so much that it intertwines our personal life. The fire department is our 2nd home and family. With such negativity, death, little sleep, etc… why do we do it? We have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world and we show up every shift ready to do work! Why?? When our own lose their lives why do we still continue doing what we do? It's the love of the job and the people. Greatest job I've ever had!!
It's the end of Season 2!! Hope everyone has enjoyed it!! I get into micro managing the decision makers and how that just ain't right. We have to work together for an overall positive outcome on calls. Just because you have power doesn't mean you know everything. There are folks out there that have expertise in certain areas that maybe you don't. Trust your people, trust your officers and firefighters in leading roles. Don't be a boss be a leader!
It's 2022 and let's start a new year with getting that positive change in mind. Let's kill that complacency that is haunting the fire service. Let's not worry about our 2nd job for 24 hours and concentrate on our department. Let's make 2022 better than last year and make yourself and your department better!
During graduation you walk across that stage for 5 seconds of recognition for years of hard work. Why? Is that what you get for all that stress, tears, headaches and long nights? Investing in yourself and your FD can bring out that positive change and progression. We work and invest in ourselves to better the department we work for and for the people. That few seconds to walk across that stage with that diploma can echo for years to come! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
I've talked about changes and how to make them. But are they working? Staying patient on change can be tough but it's possible that change can happen. Make 2022 a year of change and goal oriented. I'm not expert but I'd love to hear other peoples mind set on what they want to change. It's all about positive progress and making things better for all.
Have you ever read a LODD report? Well I have read a few recently and it got me thinking what are we doing to prevent these from happening? I talk about preparing you and your crew on air consumption and understanding signs and symptoms of flashover and other fire scene issues. You are responsible for you and your crew and making sure they don't end up a LODD. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Talking about structure fires and running a scene with competent people and assigning jobs to complete the task. Knowing how to extinguish, command, and mitigate a fire is crucial for all levels in the FD. Know what you need to do to better yourself in your job and help those under you.
Incompetent leadership is a disease that we need to find a cure for. I will talk about the two different types of incompetent leadership and how to try and improve that relationship with your higher ups. Move away from complacency and understand your job and the one above you. Always work together to complete the task at hand, stay motivated! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
I'm talking about a class we conducted this past week and thanking all the instructors that were there. We need more instructors to pass that great info off to the rookies and née personnel. A possible name change and something big maybe coming. Get Motivated FD may have a name change soon with other changes to get the word and training out to even more folks! Thanks for listening and stay motivated!! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Interview with a firefighter about how his Company made 2 grabs at a house fire. Great talk about how they made a grab and going over search and how training for this type of situation was possible. A great podcast to start Season 2. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Going back to some of my podcasts over the last 6 months. It's been an experience that I've learned some stuff from. Hopefully Season 2 will be just as good!!
We all conduct training right? Well are we going through the motions or are we giving the crews the educating of the why factor. Why do we do what we do. It's not because “that's the way it's always been done” you got to have a true educated reason on why.
If you just got a promotion here is some advice that was given to me and I hope it will help you out. Don't just stop and sit on the couch because you got that promotion. Now is the time to build your team and make them and yourself better. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Incorporating your team on some decisions is important. If you just make decisions because you have the power or you can may come and bite you in the rear. If someone knows more than you on something it's ok to ask their opinion. Communication is important on the fire scene as well as team building. Once communication is stopped or withheld then things start to breakdown. So let's communicate baby!! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Mental stress and health are an important topic that needs to be talked about. Taking time off to relax from the stress of work and how to deal with PTSD. It's real not fake. I will talk about my personal PTSD that I fought through several years ago. Oh yeah F*** the nay sayers after coming back from a stress free vacation. Fire ground jobs and how to make the operation run smooth. Also, educating the rookies with the right tools. Are we still learning old tricks? Why not teach new ones too?
Promotion season, are you proactive or reactive?? And I talk about the fire expo and some cool stuff I learned. Also got to hang out with some awesome folks from down there!!
We say it's about them, the victim, but it's also about the Company and not you. What are you doing to make your Company or department better? This goes out to all officers and rookies including me!! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Utilizing training recourses not just in gear and SCBA. Computer training is great but it shouldn't be depended on for top notch training. We talk about getting off the couch and doing work. It's about the team and going home the next morning, this is my rant! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
