Girls Uninterrupted is a project started by Natasha and Sara, where they bring together a collection of unapologetic ideas and voices. After sealing their friendship with a shared bond of being two outspoken girls in a one square mile radius, they decided to create something all on their own where…
On the heels of Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation, we decided to release a bonus episode to unpack what just happened and what it means for our future. Not just for our listeners but for our own sanities. On World Mental Health Day, let’s call this Kavanaugh therapy. A sexual predator was appointed to the highest court in the land. It was devastating, but on today’s pod we focus on how Christine Blasey Ford changed the course of history. Her testimony was not in vain, she did this for us. Women have come forward about their experiences with sexual abuse that have been silent for decades, teaching us it’s time to call a spade a spade. Sexual assault is sexual assault. We’re done with pleasantries, it’s time to fight back and that begins with voting this November.
Episode 12, our final episode of the season, is here! It's the Girls Uninterrupted State of the Union. No guest, just us. We break down what we've learned from creating a podcast, our thoughts on the current political climate, and why it's important to get out and vote today. We started this journey as two bored lifelong bff's who wanted to push ourselves outside of our comfort zones, create something all our own, and to (try) and make a difference no matter how small. 3 months out, I think we can safely say we accomplished all of the above. Most importantly, we want to thank everyone who has supported us along the way. So, thank you to all of our amazing guests, listeners, friends, and family who supported us. Stay tuned for season 2 and VOTE!
On this week’s episode, we talk to the director of The Bronx Freedom Fund, Elena Weissmann. The American prison system has been problematic as long as it's existed in this country. Organizations like the Bronx Freedom Fund, a community bail fund, are working to change that. Being poor shouldn’t be a crime and Elena helps us explain why. She broke down for us exactly what happens after you’re arrested, what happens if you can’t make bail, and why our current laws disproportionately affect the poor and people of color. Our quick take: NYC is not as liberal as we would think.
After a brief hiatus, EPISODE 10 is finally here with the only and only Linette Lopez, the Senior Financial Correspondent for Business Insider (and funniest guest so far) who broke the story about the secrets and lies behind the Tesla Model 3. Elon Musk has been in the headlines now more than ever. What better way to broach the subject than breaking it down over a bottle of prosseco with the victim of his Twitter ire. Musk even tweeted her Facebook screenshots from 2014 (dude get a life). We often think of Tesla and other Silicon Valley by-products as companies that change the world for the better. But as more whistle blowers come forward, it’s clear that the perception of these over grown start-ups is changing. Find out what Linette has to say about the apparent downfall of Elon Musk and where she thinks Tesla will go from here.
Bravo has been a prevailing topic of conversation between us long before Girls Uninterrupted began. This week we feature our good friend Liv Kelleher, an LA based producer and co-host of Eric Bigger's Bigger Talks Podcast on PodcastOne, to look at Andy Cohen's empire from a political angle. Who did RHONY and RHOC vote for in the 2016 election? How do the franchises approach sensitive political issues? How does Bravo act as a metaphor for the current political climate? We touch on these questions and more over celebratory skinny margaritas and rosé. On. Brand.
On this week’s episode, we talk to entrepreneur and founder of Issue Voter, Maria Yuan about the importance of voting. How can we hold our members of congress accountable? We tell them how we feel about the decisions they make. Bills can be convoluted and dense, but Maria has found the perfect solution. Issue Voter identities issues constituents are particularly passionate about and explains them in a digestible way. Do our votes really matter? What can we do to make sure our best interests are represented in government? These are some of the questions we discuss with Maria and more. With midterms around the corner, our votes matter now more than ever. Check out Issue Voter at Issuevoter.org to see if your representative is fighting for you.
On this week’s episode, we interview political reporter Olivia Nuzzi, who now serves as the the Washington correspondent for New York Magazine. She takes us behind the scenes of those White House Press Briefings we all painstakingly watch (the room is smaller than it seems btw) and gives us some insight into the moment where she played the now famous ProPublica recording of immigrant children mid briefing. Is the pee pee tape real? How can journalists hold political officials accountable? And what is it really like to cover Washington in this current political climate? These are all questions Olivia helps us answer and more. She is the absolute epitome of a #girlboss and we have no doubt you will learn just as much from her as we did!
Politics these days infiltrate every aspect of our lives, especially in a progressive epicenter like New York. On this week’s episode, we speak with Lindsey Metselaar, the creator of the millennial dating podcast 'We Met at Acme' (@wemetatacme) and food blog 'Don't Expect Salads' (@dontexpectsalads), about dating in the current polarized political climate. People assume their political ideologies as part of their identity, so is it possible to have a successful relationship with a partner you disagree with? Are differing opinions an immediate disqualifier? Should we try and change the opinions of those we love? Dating on its face is already an uphill battle, throwing politics into the mix can make it impossible. We break down these questions and more with Lindsey, as she gives us insight on how to navigate these tricky waters.
On this week’s episode, we talk to the Daily Beast’s senior entertainment editor, Marlow Stern. We break down what exactly qualifies as journalism these days and what the role of the fourth estate should be in Trump’s America. Did cable news get the president elected? Can we even call Fox News “news” anymore? Are we screwed or is there hope for us still? These are all questions we try and answer with Marlow. He provides us with insight to the sometimes difficult and confusing questions surrounding the media these days.
On this week's episode, we interview founder of Friend of a Friend, Forbes contributor, and lifestyle influencer Olivia Perez. She helps us deep dive into everything from what it means in to be a feminist in the age of social media age to how she built her brand on empowering others. It’s safe to safe we learned more than a few life lesson from this interview. We even coined the term #livebyliv, meaning go high when they go low. We have no doubt that you will be as mesmerized by her grace and intellect as we were!
DISCLAIMER: our mic fell 100x - sorry to make our listeners suffer! We promise to get it right for episode 4. This week’s episode, in commemoration of Pride month, we interview NYC’s meme legend and Eloise of Paul’s, Sebastian Tribbie, better known as @youvegotnomale on Instagram. This episode also features his boyfriend Teddy Foster (@teddywapp) and plug of the pod Isa Berland (@isaberland). We cover everything from Anna Delvey, coming out stories, Soulcycle, if blue gatorade is really better at curing hangovers, to why pride matters. The gay community has deep roots in NYC. And sometimes living in a bubble, we forget there’s still a lot of progress to be made in equality for all. To celebrate pride and its history, we let loose on the episode, while still honoring how the past #influences the present, no pun intended. If you live in the NYC area, catch @youvegotnomale hosting Tues-Thurs @ Paul’s Baby Grand. And if you like the content, please rate and subscribe!
The women of the White House have captivated America. How can they be so loyal to a man who is not only accused of sexual assault, but has let misogyny define his agenda. It seems like we’re a stone’s throw away from living in the Handmaid’s Tale. Hope Hicks, Ivanka Trump, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders have been some of the longest standing employees to serve in Trump’s administration. In this episode, we set out to answer a few questions with a little help from Katie Nowak, the Head of Marketing at Saddle Creek Records. Can these women really be feminists? Why do they stick around? And can we sympathize with them to any degree?
WTF is happening with Kanye West seems to be the question on everyones mind. Does Ye support Trump? Should we still support Kanye's music despite the crazy things he has done or said? Join Natasha Malik and Sara Huncke for a conversation with the founders of Ricco Noir Studios, Marissa Pelly and London Wilmot, about the politics of Kanye West in the era of Trump.
