What a show we had tonight! We sat down with Jessie Binkley and his Dad Ronnie. The Binkley name is well known in the Middle TN racing scene, as Ronnie's father Charlie raced before him. Jessie now carries on the name, in Baby Grand and Legend cars.

On today's episode we have an in-depth interview with the godfather of electronic music in Ireland, Roger Doyle. A composer, keyboardist and producer, he's been writing music for over 50 years.Starting in the Royal Irish Academy Of Music, he went on to develop his craft at the Dutch Institute Of Sonology and later the Finnish Radio Experimental Music Studio. His curiousity around new technology and recording techniques led him to using the Fairlight CMI - an early sampler and synthesizer that changed the course of modern music. In 1986, his group Operating Theatre released the single Spring Is Coming With A Strawberry In The Mouth. Although at the time of release the song didn't have much impact, it's gone on to become a cult classic, with acclaimed US singer Caroline Polachek releasing a very popular cover of the song earlier this year. Naturally, we talk about this, and other compositions over the years, as well as Roger's ceaseless appetite for writing new work. All featured songs are used to be kind permission and available to purchase on Roger Doyle's bandcamp page. His latest album We Who Live Under Heaven was released on the 9th August.Featured songs:1. LeMayZing! Cars, Collecting, History, and Culture with Eric LeMay
Join hosts Eric LeMay and Todd Kelley as they interview one of Todd's high school friends, Russell Trahan, author of, “One for the Road: Cars and Cocktails that Share a Name.” Hear how Russell came up with the idea while drinking Manhattans (Kaizer!) with friends and how he researched the cocktail recipes, along with the car ads and descriptions that go with the drinks. Also, hear how Russell and Todd come up with names for their cars and how they recall the cars they drove while students at Beaverton High School in the (ahem) early 1980's. (Russell hasn't changed a bit! Good on ya, Russell!)

On the "Baby Grand edition" of Sabres Live Overtime, Brian Duff and Martin Biron dig deep into the Sabres power play numbers and how it compares to last season. What do the Sabres miss with Alex Tuch out of the lineup? They discussed the Sabres lines from Monday's practice, how the Sabres can play to their identity, wished Gilbert Perreault a happy birthday and remembered goalie Roman Cechmanek. Plus they shared some crazy stats from around the NHL - is there home ice advantage, which players are teams regretting not acquiring, and do faceoffs matter.
On this episode, take a tour with us - to the early 80's - to Scandal, as we drop into the short history of the band that released an EP that was a scattering blast of five songs - including “Goodbye To You” and “Love Has Got A Line”. At the time, it was the best-selling EP in the history of Columbia Records. But did I ever really listen to, back in 1982 or 84 or 87 or whenever, all the five songs? Maybe. Around this time, in 1982, Pat Benatar was coming towards the end of her best run. Scandal had that vibe - rock and roll crunch with a new wave-ish bite. Early 80's production and the couple hits were all about the chorus making your hips move and your head nod. Scandal threw five variations of their sound out there to see what's stuck. And did it with 80's killer keyboard playing, guitars-and-drums of the time, and a powerhouse singer out front. Patty Smyth went solo in 1987 with her debut album. The first of two hits on it, "Never Enough" (the album's title track), was written by The Hooters' Rob Hyman and Eric Bazilian (there are a surprising amount of Hooters connections to other artist's music of the era). Rick Chertoff, who produced both The Hooters and Cyndi Lauper's debut megasmash album is involved too. Baby Grand, a pre-Hooters lineup, recorded an earlier version of "Never Enough". Smyth said the album "was never supposed to be a solo record; it was meant to be a record by 'Scandal Featuring Patty Smyth'.” So we listen to the EP. Let's dig into “The Warrior” album, and hear some of what we like - and don't so much - with Smyth's solo records. Still, at the essence of it all is a great rock and roll voice, some drops of rock and pop candy, and a whole bunch more to like than what was heard just on the radio. *** Read Rob's current and archived writing at rockforwardmusic.com WEBSITE: rockpopandroll.com EMAIL: rockpoprollpodcast@gmail.com SUBSCRIBE: Apple Podcasts Spotify Stitcher Google Podcasts
"5 Questions With.." is a bonus feature from the Left of Str8 Show, where we ask 5 sometimes silly, sometimes serious questions that our curious mind wants to know about our special interview guests from the previous week. Listen in as we ask the fun and quirky type of questions that really get into the personalities of our guests. Today we have have two sets of questions to ask. First we have Spencer Hoddeson, the founder of the new adult sparkling canned beverage, "Gay Water," that is Vodka and Soda available in 4 flavors. Spencer is a terrific brand marketer who has worked social media for some major corporations. He has also become viral on social media Tik Tok for funny gay dating clips. He used the profits from social media along with his own savings to create an unapologetically gay product. We had a great conversation and these 5 questions are always fun to bring out personalities. Next we ask 5 questions of Kim David Smith and Brandon James Gwinn, whom I felt very under dressed with only 2 names. Kim is an amazing singer and performer who has been on the show many times before. He will be bringing his amazing show, "Mostly Marlene," to the Post Office Cafe and Cabaret in Provincetown for two days September 1st and 2nd and Brandon will be his musical director for the the two shows. Brandon James Gwinn is a performer and songwriter in his own right, as well as a playwright. He is also going to be performing at the Red Room in Provincetown in a show with two friends called, "3 Men and a Baby Grand," as well. This was a fun few questions with them both. Be sure to check out all of their work and you can find out more about them all and where to find them on social media, by going to their websites,: www.kimdavidsmith.com and www.brandonjamesgwinn.com Thanks for listening and come back every Tuesday with another episode of "5 Questions With..." from my interviews of LGBTQ celebrities and personalities from Entertainment, Foodies, Books, Music and Advocacy. Today it's a Two-Fer, with two great guests in the same interview. Performing for the next couple of weeks in Provincetown, I welcome my good friend Kim David Smith back to the show and he has brought along his musical director for his shows in September, Brandon James Gwinn. Kim David Smith is an amazing cabaret performer and singer, whose “Live At Joe's Pub” album was award winning and his shows such as ‘Kim Sings Kylie,' an ode to Kim's muse Kylie Minogue, was a fantastic hit. Kim is bringing his block buster, era bending show, Mostly Marlene to the Post Office Café and Cabaret in Provincetown September 1 and 2nd. Brandon will be his Musical Director for these performances. Brandon James Gwinn is an amazing musician as well, a sometime performer and a terrific playwright. While in Provincetown, he will be performing with two friends over at The Red Room from August 19-23. The show is called “3 Men and a Baby Grand,” featuring Brandon and his friends, the husband/husband team of Dylan Hartwell and Greg Sullivan. 2Northdown's New Act Competition 2021 finalist Paddy Young is set to bring his highly-anticipated debut stand-up comedy hour ‘Hungry, Horny, Scared' to the Fringe, performing at Pleasance Baby Grand at 9.35pm, throughout the festival. Following sell-out previews at the 2022 Fringe, Northern scamp Paddy Young's debut show mixes his charismatic, cult leader vibe with the inevitable reality that underneath it all he is hungry, horny and scared (aren't we all?). Upon leaving a nightmare flatshare to move back in with his parents, Paddy is confronted with a spectacle that disturbingly resembles himself: Thor, a wanking walrus, stranded on Scarborough beach (it's real, look it up). Join Paddy as he asks the hard-hitting questions: is everyone in his generation going to die still living in a flatshare? If Hitler was on drugs, how bad was his comedown? And what happens to TikTok families after their 15 minutes of fame? Let's face it, Paddy is in the gutter, but he's looking down on all of you. Paddy is a comedian and actor, who is quickly becoming one of comedy's fastest rising stars, having appeared on Channel 4, ITV2, Sky and Stewart Lee's recommendation list. Paddy makes daft videos that somehow have been viewed over 10 million times, occasionally teaming up with fellow comedians Horatio Gould and Ed Night, covering everything from King Charles at an afters, navigating housemate dynamics, to a posh actor in a Northern film. Paddy regularly performs comedy across the UK, including shows at Machynlleth Comedy Festival, the Cambridge Fringe, the Brighton Fringe and with ‘A Lovely Time' in Manchester. Paddy hosts his own sell out night ‘Rodeo' in London, which he's bringing to the 2023 Fringe for a limited run. He has performed at O2 Shepherd's Bush alongside comedians James Acaster and Mark Watson in a special one-off show ‘A Night for Ukraine'. He has also just returned from a mini US tour with BBC New Comedy Award Winner 2022 Dan Tiernan with dates in New York, Chicago and Nashville. -ENDS- WHAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID ABOUT PADDY: “Hilarious. This week in the first of what will be two installments of our interview, Larry Pearson talks about growing up as the son of NASCAR icon DAVID Pearson, racing with his brothers Ricky and Eddie, his move up the ladder from Baby Grand to Busch Series competition, his belief that he would've won the 1986 Busch Series championship even if Jack Ingram HADN'T been suspended and his ultra-superstitious ways. We then dig into the September 25, 1986 issue of Grand National Scene. Geoff Bodine has a good day at Martinsville, right up until his last pit stop. Rusty Wallace's crew got him out first and he went on to capture the victory, much to Geoff's chagrin. Ricky Rudd is FURIOUS with Kyle Petty, who uses an ambulance to ease out of the track. Jack Ingram misses Martinsville, but is still atop the Busch Series standings afterward and Gene Granger has the scoop on all that ailed the Elliotts that season. This week, my father in law, the one and only Terry Taylor shares two hilarious stories of church memories, as well as some amazing wisdom on ministry and relationships. Listen, and share this week's episode.
Joe explains the history behind Baby Grand, which started with his parents in 1985. Further, he discusses how he got involved with the business after college, the experience of developing his own store with his wife, and the serendipity involved in merging all their stores into a historic West Side location. Joe went on to discuss lessons learned as a business owner and how his views on risk have adjusted throughout his on-the-job education.

Arriving Safely in London Elise, Vol, Bogey, Kai and Militissa head to Prince Betty, and Elise prepares to face the music. Vampires and Vitae Cast for the Mini Campaign includes, Sean as Kai, Melinda as Militissa, Roger as Bogey, and Margie as Elise.

The Baby Grand has arrived. I was so moved by the miracle of new life, that I went to an actual shop and purchased a small floppy rabbit suitable for babies under three months old. For clarity, this was not a real rabbit, but a stuffed toy rabbit. Then my largesse got the better of me and I decided that what every baby brother needs is a Superhero older brother, so I invested in a Batman outfit, suitable for children aged 2-4 years. The Grand may not be the Baby Grands idea of a Superhero but he's definitely mine. “How does Batman's mummy call him in for his food?” I asked the Grand. “Get your food,” the Grand shouted as he took off his clothes and we all jumped in to tell him that there was no need to take his pants off. “Dinner, dinner, dinner BATMAN!” I trotted out to the rhythm of the Batman theme music. There was a small hiatus in proceedings as the Grand went in search of the Bat ears that were a bit on the snug side and had pinged off. He pulled his Bat ears down as hard as he could. They swivelled round his toddler head until his Bat ears were out of line and he was more of a Snark than a Superhero. “Why/” he said, looking truly bemused. “Well, when you eat a meal, sometimes it's called Dinner.” “No” he said and went off to speak to the DiL. Once enveloped by the safety of her lap he asked her “What does Batman's Mummy say?” “I don't know, what does Batman's Mummy say?” the Dil answered. “I don't know either,” said the Grand. The joke may be a concept that has been a little prematurely launched on my part but I have other plans. In the latest batch of photos the Son has uploaded, there is a very good photos of the Grand and I playing football. In true elite athletic style, the Grand is blowing a bubble and I am providing some touchline encouragement with my eyes shut. Always alert to the possibility of new opportunities and keen to try new things in life, I have seen the main chance and I'm taking it. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have enjoyed a long and loyal career with Manchester United, but I think it's all over now. I know an excellent blind Goal Ball player who coaches his son's sighted under twelves team. They've enjoyed a couple of good seasons and so I see no reason why ManU couldn't be the lucky beneficiary of this approach. It's worked for the Harpenden juniors. The coach I'm thinking of is fully occupied but I photograph well on the touchline with my eyes open or shut. I know a lot about ducking and diving, dodging and weaving and I can handle difficult questions from the media. My ability to suck my breath in through my teeth in moments of high drama would televise well. Is Grandstand still airing or Saturday pm? I don't know anything about football but if we let ignorance get in the way of progress, nothing in life would happen. When it comes down to it, it's all a leap of faith. I'm wondering what the chances are of getting the Glazer family to commit themselves to a new uber league for Goal ball. Murrey Walker would do a great commentary, if he were still alive. I wonder if I've got my starter wires crossed there. Anyway, Gary Linekar would provide great match analysis, and since it's in such a good cause, I'm sure he'd bring the crisps As Robin might say. “Holy margarine Batman.” END Follow the Blind Truth Blog here: https://theblindtruth.co.uk/ Image is Siobhain Santry's drawing of a grey ribbon with The Blind Truth written on it.

Drew Forsythe first appeared on stage in Sydney over 40 years ago. He grew up in far north Queensland and his prolific career on film, stage, and television has seen him become one of our favourite actors; equally adept in dramatic, comic and musical roles.A graduate of NIDA, he spent several years performing with the Old Tote Theatre company and the exciting new Nimrod theatre company, in a variety of roles that included The Seagull, Much Ado About Nothing, Richard 3, Twelfth Night, The Club, Comedy of Errors, Gone with Hardy, Romeo & Juliet, Henry 4, The Life of Galileo, The Three Sisters, The Bacchoi, Are you now or have you ever been? and Servant of Two Masters.Among his legendary performances, the title roles of the heroic Tonino and the foolish Zanetto in the Nick Enright/Terence Clarke musical, The Venetian Twins, are always recalled in awe. The show was written for Forsythe. He originated these dual roles for Nimrod Theatre Company in the first Sydney Theatre Company season in 1979, and subsequently in two revivals.Other stage musical appearances include Big River, Strictly Ballroom, The Republic of Myopia, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and the Gilbert and Sullivan comic operas H.M.S. You sign the divorce papers, find a new place near the beach to live, sign the lease, walk the dog, hire movers and take the piano. Read more about becoming a musician in my books available on Amazon and other online publishers. Titles: From Piano to Puccini and Songbird at the Shopping Mall. Thanks for listening.
this is recorded from inside a baby grand that had the legs cut off. then the sustain pedal was shimmed up, so the keys are always free to vibrate, there's a condenser microphone in there which is pretty amazing. far out. just like this place. far out. what's going to happen? saxophone correspondent really ties it all up with a bow. i hope you really do get this and go on a bicycle ride.
A Room with a View and a Baby Grand
Baby Grand is the fourth single released in March 1987 off The Bridge album and peaked at No. 3 on the Adult Contemporary Charts. The Jerusalem Post wrote that the song is a "small pleasure". The Jerusalem Post likes two things: Baby Grand and Elon's act. It's a RAVE! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
“Bach Is My Torah" The Philadelphia-born Eric Bazilian's dad was a psychiatrist but it was his concert pianist mother who likely influenced him to start playing the piano at age 5. Four years later he was playing guitar and seven years later at the age of 16 he had his first band, Evil Seed. While getting a B.S. in Physics at the University of Pennsylvania, Bazilian and his college pal Rob Hyman formed a band called Baby Grand and after that band called it a day with two albums under their belts, Bazilian and Hyman formed the Hooters. Over the course of their winning career, the Hooters put out six albums, had a handful of top 40 hits with songs like "Day By Day” and "And We Danced," they opened Live Aid in Philadelphia, the Amnesty International Concert at Giants Stadium in ’86 and the Roger Waters The Wall Concert in Berlin in 1990. Bazilian not only produced Joan Osborne’s Grammy Nominated Relish album, he wrote "One Of Us," which is one of the most memorable songs of the last 50 years. It was covered by "everyone from Prince to Seal and it was used as the theme song for the TV show "Joan of Arcadia," for which Bazilian won an ASCAP Film and Television Music Award. Over the course of his career he’s written and co written songs for and with a crazy list of talent. Here’s a partial list: Patty Smyth, Bon Jovi, BIf Naked, Ronnie Spector, Matt Nathanson, and Robbie Williams. In 2000 Bazilian was inducted into the Philadelphia Walk of Fame on the Avenue of the Arts and his new solo album Bazilian is a life-affirming blast of rootsy pop stomp that’s energizing, soulful and positively infectious. The Hooters are an ongoing proposition and they’re massively popular in Germany and Scandinavia, playing sell-out shows to adoring fans. In this chat, Bazilian talks to Alex about life in Sweden, why Bach is his Torah, and saying no to Bob Dylan... www.ericbazilian.com www.hootersmusic.com www.alexgreenonline.com www.bombshellradio.com

There are a handful of albums that have never lost their popularity, but just get stronger over time, and The Joshua Tree would certainly be one of these giant albums. The fifth studio album by U2 would see the group coming back from the experimental feel of their previous album, The Unforgettable Fire, and taking on a more conventional approach. The Joshua Tree took the theme of "America" as the band had been spending significant time on tour in the country, and Bono was reading American novelists like Flannery O'Connor at the time. The Edge was inspired by American blues and country artists, and several tracks on the album have a blues feel.Autumn Fischer from WSB Radio’s “The Von Haessler Doctrine” (SFW) as well as her own podcast “One Topic” (NSFW) joins us for this week's fun and shenanigans. Where the Streets Have No NameThis first track on the album takes its name from the idea that you can tell a person's religion and income based on the Belfast street on which they live. The repeating arpeggio with a delay effect that kicks off the song is a signature sound for the band. One Tree HillThis song references a volcanic peak in New Zealand which his an important memorial place for the Maori people. It was written in memory of Greg Carroll, a Maori roadie for the band who was killed in a motorcycle accident in Dublin in 1986.Bullet the Blue SkyBono was inspired to write these lyrics as a protest song after a trip to Nicaragua and El Salvador. He saw the toll that the US military intervention in the region placed on local peasants. It has taken on different meanings in concerts, from consumerism to handgun violence to Nazism. The tune started as a jam session. In God's CountryThe idea of this track is that the US is a desert rose, or a siren - both sad and seductive. It also talks about the lack of political ideas in the West, portraying western thought as an arid place. ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:“At This Moment” by Billy Vera and the BeatersThis song was featured in the movie “Blind Date,”and was earlier used in the TV Sitcom "Family Ties."STAFF PICKS:“We're Ready” by BostonWayne takes us to Boston's third studio album. It was a long time between their second and third efforts, and this one was perceived as a bit of a disappointment. However, the album still maintains that distinctive Boston sound.“Mandolin Rain” by Bruce Hornsby and the RangeBrian's staff pick features the incredible piano work of Bruce Hornsby from his first album “The Way It Is.” The song is about a failed southern romance.“Heartbreak Beat” by The Psychedelic FursRob brings us into the alternative rock genre. The band called themselves “The Psychedelic Furs” to separate themselves from the punk movement, who didn't care for psychedelic music. This was their only top 40 song in the U.S.“(I Just) Died In Your Arms” by Cutting CrewSpecial guest Autumn Fischer features the "echo snare" sound of British band Cutting Crew from their debut studio album. She became a fan of this song from the radio on Grand Theft Auto.“Baby Grand” by Billy JoelBruce's staff pick finishes us off this week. It features a double piano duet with Joel and piano legend Ray Charles. Billy Joel named his daughter Alexa Ray, with the middle name being for Charles. When Charles reached out about doing a duet, Joel wrote this song in a single night, using "Georgia On My Mind" as the template for the style he wanted to achieve.
