In the name of giving someone the benefit of the doubt, do you struggle to call a spade a spade? Have you been conditioned to be nice even when the ugly truth is staring you in the face? One of the most famous quotes from the late Maya Angelou is: "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time." This suggestion seems so simple and so obvious, and yet it can be so very challenging to believe the truth about who someone is the first time that they show that truth. Are You Sewing Labels on Yourself? ~ Aideen T. Finnola

In Pursuit Of Truth with Aideen T. Finnola Radio Show The human brain loves to organize all the information it receives into categories with labels. This is a very necessary and useful function that your brain performs for your survival as an animal on the planet. Unfortunately, it is not a function that contributes to your happiness and self-esteem, when your brain applies labels to your identity. Labels, such as co-dependent, depressive-anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, are extremely helpful for clarification of an experience that you are having. These same labels become limiting and damaging when you sew them on yourself and apply them to your identity. You might be having the experience that a label describes, but You are not your experience! There is a You that is above, beyond, outside, before, and after any experience you have and any label you use to describe that experience. Join Aideen as she explores the good truth, the bad truth, and the ugly truth of labels and gives you practical guidance to put labels in their proper place (HINT: not on your face!). Do You Really Need To “Let It Go”? ~ Aideen T. Finnola

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 27, 2019

In Pursuit Of Truth with Aideen T. Finnola Radio Show "Let it go" is one of the most popular platitudes in our culture today, especially in spiritual, personal growth, and self-help communities. Like with so many of these platitudes, when someone tells you to "let it go," it can leave you feeling judged, criticized, like you're falling short, and like you're being a control freak. It's an easy-peasy command for another person to utter because they aren't the one wrestling with the challenge that you are when they tell you to just "let it go." And, it gives them a "get out of jail free" pass to side-step actually supporting you through your challenge. But do you really always need to "let it go"? Does this platitude work in all challenging situations? Is it wise to use the "let it go" platitude as a "one size fits all" approach to every challenge you face? Perhaps it's actually more complex than that. Perhaps, as in all things, you should pursue your own truth and find the source of infallible wisdom within yourself. When you have been told to "let it go," and something inside you rails against this platitude, pause, go within, and ask yourself "Do I want to let it go?" God, Source, The Universe, Your Higher Self, etc. will give you the answer, in a still small voice, and you can trust that answer. Join Aideen as she breaks down the platitude "let it go" and gives you very practical tools for figuring out whether or not you actually want to let it go and, if you do, how to "let it go" effortlessly and peacefully. Does Your Inner Critic Tell the Truth? ~ Aideen T. Finnola

In Pursuit Of Truth with Aideen T. Finnola Radio Show Everyone has an Inner Critic and yet everyone seems to think that they are the only one who has an Inner Critic. That is, in fact, one of the most untruthful messages from your Inner Critic . . . that you are the only person weak enough, insecure enough, and pathetic enough to have an Inner Critic. This statement, just like all other statements from your Inner Critic, is not the truth! The most fascinating thing about the Inner Critic is that it's not natural. Yep, it's unnatural! It's unnatural because no one is born with an Inner Critic. The Inner Critic is an After-Market Add-On because it's something that gets imposed on you by your family of origin, your society, your religion (if you're raised in a religion), and your culture. Just like any other after-market add-on, the Inner Critic doesn't look good, it doesn't perform well, and it makes the whole system (you) function worse. So, what can you do about your Inner Critic? Are you stuck with it? It can feel that way, but, no, you are NOT stuck with your Inner Critic and you don't have to be helpless in the face of it's constant abuse! Join Aideen, for this powerful episode about the Inner Critic, as she breaks down what the Inner Critic is, how it gets added on, and how it can be confronted, managed, and minimized. Do You Have “What It Takes”? ~ Aideen T. Finnola

In Pursuit Of Truth with Aideen T. Finnola Radio Show How many times have you heard the question: "Do you have what it takes?" Does that question intimidate you? Does it stress you out? Do you worry that you don't have "what it takes"? Many, many times, I have worried that I don't have "what it takes." Most of my life, in fact, I have been thoroughly convinced that I didn't have "what it takes." What makes this question so stressful is that it is unanswerable due to its very nature. When the question "Do you have what it takes?" is asked, the requirement is never quantified. So often, this question leaves us feeling like a deer in the headlights, not having any idea just exactly what it will take but, nonetheless, feeling certain that we don't have what it takes, even though we don't know what that is. After an accomplishment is attempted and achieved, a challenge faced and overcome, a trauma worked through and healed, or crisis managed and averted, we can easily look back and see that, indeed, we must have had what it took because we did it. But we never know that at the outset, which begs the question "Do we even need to ask and/or answer whether or not we have what it takes?" Perhaps the question is useless and irrelevant after all. Join Aideen as she explores the truth of the age-old question "Do you have what it takes?" Pursuing the Truth About Sexual Orientation ~ Guest Rick Clemons

In Pursuit Of Truth with Aideen T. Finnola Radio Show What is the truth about sexual orientation? Is it determined and evidenced by our behavior and sexual activity or our we born with our sexual orientation already established before we even have any awareness of sex? This behavior/biology discussion is particularly pertinent and poignant for both the LGBTQ and the Straight Spouse communities, as well as for our greater society, because members of both communities have suffered greatly as a result of cultural ignorance and discrimination around sexual orientation. Life coach, author, and speaker, Rick Clemons has personal experience with this suffering. He has walked the same road as Aideen, but on the other side as a closeted gay spouse. Having spent decades trying to suppress the truth of his homosexual orientation and choose the behavior of a heterosexual man, Rick knows firsthand the pain, caused to himself and others, of not pursuing his truth. Rick now knows the joy, authenticity, and peace that comes from living a Life (Un)Closeted! Join Aideen as she welcomes Rick Clemons for some serious truth telling about sexual orientation! Hint: we were ALL born this way!!! Rick Clemons is a culture disruptor (shakes up the status quo), closet buster (shatters silly beliefs), and a bold move expert (like Superman without the muscles and cape). His superpower is guiding closet dwellers - which is every human - to break free of fear, make bold moves, and live life without apology. Everything Rick has discovered about living life his way, he learned from coming out of the closet at 36, getting laid off from two sweet corporate jobs, and making the crazy decision to become an entrepreneur at age 43. Rick’s book - Frankly My Dear I’m Gay, podcasts - Life (UN)Closeted and 40 Plus: Real Men, Real Talk, his Bold Move coaching practice, in-your-face keynotes, and experiential workshops represent his no b.s. approach for making bold moves without a safety net to be found. He was put on this earth to remind people that closets are for clothes not living. He is a husband to his husband, has survived raising two girls---thus, the reason he’s bald---and will gladly work for wine, but prefers money to pay for things like toilet paper and ice cream. https://rickclemons.com/       rick@rickclemons.com https://rickclemons.com/writing/ https://rickclemons.com/podcast-episodes/ https://rickclemons.com/forty-plus/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIjIyddGlPw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJdRNgD0VnI https://rickclemons.com/speaking/ Author of My Exquisite Purple Life  Purchase Book Here or Audio Here https://www.balboapress.com/BookStore/BookDetails/752312-My-Exquisite-Purple-Life ~ More About In Pursuit Of Truth with Aideen T.
