Dani and Clarence (Pop of Colour) discuss ways creative professionals can supplement their income during the COVID-19 pandemic. Editor’s Note: due to marathoning artists livestreams for the past month, Clarence confused which artist was writing songs live with their audience. It was not Danielle Allard. His apologies. Disney is HUGE and powerful company. No one is denying that but due to their power the decisions they make can have a ripple effect of the Creative Industries. I discuss some of the big trends Disney has made in recent years and how that effects all of us as Creative people and how they are shaping the future of Creatives. These topics can often be overlooked or easily dismissed but I think they are some of the most important to discuss these things because Media is powerful and it shapes how we see the world. As always I am open to a discussion or if anyone else has a different opinion than mine I would love to chat about it. I am still finding my way in the podcasting world so I would also be appreciative of your thoughts on this episode. I am trying to post at least one episode a month at this time! This is a video that I posted on my YouTube a while back but I think it is important to have it here as well as I really want to open up the discussions. Over about the past year and specifically the past few months I have seen a trend of DISGUSTING behaviour from people on Twitter. With cases like Jessie Smollett, James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), and The College Admission Scandal Code Name: Operation Varsity Blue (Lori Loughlin & Olivia Jade) people are extremely quick to only read headlines, presume guilt before these people are even convicted and then “Cancel” them. This is affecting peoples lives and job. The general public has now realized if they make a big enough fuss about something they can generally get what they want. In the Case of James Gunn, he was fired by Disney from directing Guardians of The Galaxy 3 for tweets from 10 years ago. For Jessie Smollett, People demanded he be fired from empire after a police conference that accused him of faking an attack only for the charges to be dropped. This has gotten so bad that even “Facebook friends” get blocked for not having the same opinion. We are creating a culture that undermines the justice system and changes popular opinion into fact which is VERY dangerous. On top of that after listening to an Episode of The Colin and Samir Podcast featuring Paul Rabil where he talked about the cross-section of culture that many athletes are at and it really got me thinking about a Musician duty to voice their opinion and not shy away for fear of being cancelled but the new Cancel Culture we live in. Clearly, We need to learn some Internet Etiquette and stop boycotting everyone and everything that doesn’t have the same viewpoint as us. The internet is broken so I broke it down with all of my Dani sass in full force. Connect to me on social: Youtube Twitter Instagram
Being an ADHD Creative I can NEVER just do one thing at a time. I am first and foremost a Singer/Songwriter but also into film, design, this podcast, starting a company and potentially a clothing line because "Why not". Doing so many things often leaves me completely burned out and over extended. I keep trying to juggle all these balls ... But I don't actually know how to juggle so everything gets dropped at one point or another. In this episode I discuss my struggles with finding balance in my creative endeavours and the steps I am ATTEMPTING to take to balance it all out.
