Make Us Proud

This week, Joan, Lizzie, and Marcela are talking all things social media. Having been born before the 2000's, all three women got to see the evolution of social media and everyone's access. As they got older, more and more people had it, and as a result, the world change because of it. But, has it been helpful? Has it been harmful? Or, are there ways where it has been both? They ponder these questions, share some ridiculous stories about their social media trauma, and give their opinions on the matter. When you're younger, you imagine what life will be like as an adult. But what they don't often talk about when you're younger is how tough it can be to actually be an adult. This week, Lizzy, Marcela, and Joan connect with educator Takara Veazie. Takara talks about her journey from living in a community as one of the few black girls growing up to attending THE Prairie View A&M University. She shares her story about finding herself at college and then becoming the passionate, compassionate, and kind 6th grade history teacher she is today. This week, we get a little uncomfortable as we kick off Black History Month. We talk all things privilege, how we benefit, and ways that we can combat it. This is only the beginning, as we will have some amazing guests this month to help talk the topic and dig in deeper. Elizabeth shares her experience on being a mother of 2, and she sheds some light on the truth of it all. Joan and Marcela share their opinion from the outside looking in. We discuss what generations of women have had to go through and how the cycle just continues, and finally, we discuss some generational trauma. In today's media, true crime is a highly consumed topic. There are famous YouTube channels, podcasts, TikToks, etc. that are specifically dedicated to highlighting crimes committed...but are these dangerous? Are they ethical? Marcela, Joan, and Elizabeth talk all about it and debate the ethicality of it. The idea of this episode comes from Evan Peters most recent win for his work in the Jeffrey Dahmer show on Netflix, and Joan is...not happy about it. Join in to hear our conversation that starts with true crime and then goes deeper into some of the issues of the American justice system, disparity between classes, females as victims and much more. We're here every Friday bright and early!
