Imagine someone you want to impress leans over your shoulder and looks at your favorite playlist. Is there anything there you'd be embarrassed to show? Hosts E and Tank talk about the whole notion of guilty pleasures and each list five guilty pleasures of their own. Let's just say you're in for a surprise, folks.
An episode that'll make you laugh, cringe, and maybe rethink your playlist. The guys confess to the songs they're deeply embarrassed to admit still pop up on shuffle—yes, even the boy band era makes a surprise appearance. Rich goes full soapbox on why sports leagues should give us the real player experience: mic'd up athletes, no filters, just pure uncensored chaos. And to wrap it up, the crew tackles the age-old question—can dudes pull off jewelry, or is it a fashion foul? Tune in, laugh along, and maybe even defend your guilty music pleasures.
We all have that song — the one we blast in the car with the windows up or belt out in the shower when no one's listening. In this episode, we're diving deep into the world of guilty pleasure songs — the tunes we're slightly embarrassed to love but just can't stop listening to. From cheesy pop hits to one-hit wonders and unexpected throwbacks, we're celebrating the music that makes us feel good (even if we pretend otherwise).Join us as we confess our own guilty pleasures, explore why these songs stick with us, and hear from listeners about the tracks they love to hate (or hate to love). She's Anita, a zombie raising hate crime enthusiast! He's Jean Claude, a vampire who's in the Chamber of Commerce and shops exclusively at International Male! They do not do it until the fifth book! It's Guilty Pleasures, the first Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter book by Laurell K. Hamilton! This was a serious thing for Sara back in college, who is currently having an existential crisis about the trashbag fakeass non-intersectional feminism of the all of it. It was new to Courtney, who hated it. It's halfway to Halloween, so we pulled this one out of a musty old crypt where we honestly kinda forgot about how we recorded it! I mentioned a quote and I mentioned the author but there were, like, twenty minutes between the two in the episode, so let me clarify that when I talked about how "the master's tools will never dismantle the master's house" I was referring to an essay of the same title by Audre Lorde, from her collection Sister Outsider which is a) a quick read, go read it right now, it won't take you but a minute, and b) about being constantly asked to be the only Black woman, or the only lesbian, or the only Black lesbian, at every conference and on every panel. "As women, we have been taught either to ignore our differences, or to view them as causes for separation and suspicion rather than as forces for change. Without community there is no liberation, only the most vulnerable and temporary armistice between an individual and her oppression. But community must not mean a shedding of our differences, nor the pathetic pretense that these differences do not exist." Audre Lorde would eat Anita Blake alive. There's actually quite a bit of content-warning stuff in here - obviously there's vampire-typical violence and lack of consent and all that, but there's also a ton coming from ol' Anita - you got some fat shaming, some kink shaming, she's really got it in for sex workers, she can't stand it when other people have any kind of good time, she's Not Like Other Girls... I bet there's even a bit in here where she talks about how unfashionably big her boobs are and how unfashionably beautiful her skin is and how unfashionably thick and lustrous her mane of hair is.

Send us a textWhat are the movies we love despite knowing they're not cinematic masterpieces? When the critics pan a film that you can't stop rewatching, should you feel guilty about your enjoyment? In this deeply personal episode, we reunite as a full trio to dive into the concept of "guilty pleasures" in film - those movies we return to time and again despite (or perhaps because of) their perceived flaws. As Erica returns from her travels, she brings with her this question that reveals more about us as viewers than perhaps any other topic could. We each approach this challenge differently - Max analyzes the numerical gaps between his ratings and the critical consensus, Alex passionately defends films no one else seems to appreciate, and Erica embraces the nostalgic comforts of childhood favorites. From the shark-filled waters of Deep Blue Sea to the supernatural scares of Annabelle Comes Home, from the teen angst of Twilight to the ghostly romance of Casper, our selections span genres and decades but share one common thread: they matter deeply to us.The conversation reveals how our most treasured movie experiences often connect to formative moments in our lives. We explore whether a guilty pleasure can transition into legitimate appreciation when critical opinion shifts, whether certain genres are more prone to guilty pleasure status than others, and ultimately, whether we should feel any guilt at all about the films that bring us joy. What movies do you secretly love despite their reputation? Join us for this confession booth of cinematic loves and discover why the films we're hesitant to recommend might actually be the ones that define us most as movie lovers. The Regular Guy Movie ShowIn this podcast, three longtime friends revisit the movies they grew up with to...Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifySupport the show
