The STEM Program at Lithia Springs High School was established in 2011 to provide the students of Lithia Springs the opportunity to pursue a specialized education in biomedical science, computer science, and engineering. The New Manchester High School Fine Arts Magnet Education Program is a rigorous and advanced Arts Education program that trains and prepares students for post-secondary collegiate or professional options. FAME students have the opportunity to experience intense study in the areas of Dance, Drama, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music and Visual Art. Applications are due Monday, December 14, 2020. The half day program at the CCI offers high school career and technical programs and dual enrollment programs through West Georgia Technical College. Students may graduate from high school with technical college certificates and/or college credit. Douglas County College and Career Institute (CCI) lottery registration will open on 1/10/21and close on 1/29/21. The lottery will be held in February 3 at 5pm. The Academy at CCI offers small class sizes, individualized instructional opportunities, and technology based instruction that will be valuable to students no matter what they decide to do after high school. Students who participate in the Academy spend the entire school day at CCI and take their required core classes in addition to our high school and college electives. Chapel Hill High School added AP Capstone to its Advanced Placement Magnet Program in 2016-2017. AP Capstone is a diploma program that enhances the AP student's college preparation experience by adding an independent research component. Advanced Placement students who wish to be considered for the AP Capstone Diploma must take two additional AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. Alexander High School is the home of a magnet program which features a liberal arts curriculum and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Alexander began offering the Liberal Arts College Preparatory Magnet in 2016. The rigorous liberal arts curriculum requires students to challenge themselves academically and meet high expectations for attendance and behavior. Students must earn 28 Carnegie units, including three units of a foreign language, complete at least one Advanced Placement (AP) course, and document 20 hours of community service in order to graduate with the Liberal Arts Diploma Seal. Lithia Springs High School is home to Douglas County's Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Magnet program. Use of Project Lead the Way's (PLTW) specialized curriculum in Biomedical Science, Computer Science, and Engineering distinguishes the STEM Magnet program from all other STEM pathways offered in DCSS. Three separate agencies, each with its own rigorous and comprehensive certification process, have recognized the quality and value of the LSHS STEM program: the Georgia Department of Education (2016), Cognia Accreditation, formally AdvancED (2017), and the National Institute for STEM Education (2019). Graduates of the STEM program satisfy a diverse array of rigorous expectations, including AP and Dual Enrollment courses, to develop a comprehensive portfolio and résumé for their post-secondary endeavors.
