In this solo episode of Million Dollar Flip Flops, Rodric breaks down one of the most painful realities in business growth:
Who doesn't love a market? A farmers' market is a real community event. In Esquimalt Mel was kind enough to share the history and current progress of the local market. We have a conversation about merchants, music, and shoppers. Sitting right in the same park where the Thursday evening weekly event brings hundreds of individuals, couples, kids, and families we also acknowledge the seasonal start of the Monday Market at Gorge Park. Markets are not just about connecting food to people, but also are community building happenings... an encouragement to meet neighbours and share experiences.

What if the reason your life feels off…is because you're not fully being yourself? Not in a dramatic, quit-your-life way.But in the quiet, subtle ways you stay small…self-censor…and override what you know is true.In this conversation, I'm joined by Elvira V. Hopper—transformational speaker, artist, and creator of the Miracle Magnet movement—to explore the real cost of living out of alignment.Because it's not just about feeling “a little off.”It can show up as burnout, anxiety, people-pleasing, and repeating the same patterns over and over again.Together, we talk about:Why so many of us were conditioned to shrink ourselves (hello, “good girl” programming and cultural expectations)The difference between being authentic and reacting from egoHow nervous system patterns and old beliefs keep us stuckWhy self-expression isn't a personality trait—it's a practiceThe role of community in actually creating change This isn't about becoming someone new. It's about coming back to who you've always been.Because when you're out of alignment… your life reflects it.And when you start telling the truth—even in small ways—everything begins to shift.✨ Connect with Elvira + grab her free teaching:http://www.elvirahopper.com/linktree
The only logical solution to wrap up our look at the original X-Men trilogy is a updated re-release of our Caravan Of Garbage review from 2019. Sure Bryan Singer is now gone (for now) but luckily Brett "The Rat" Ratner has stepped in to take his place to conclude the stories of Wolverine, Gene Grey, Professor X, Magnet, Storm, Cyclops and many more characters that would continue to never die and re-appear in future prequels and sequels. By 2003 superhero movies were well back in vogue. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man from 2002 had become a massive hit, a serious Batman reboot was in the works and of course we got the return of Bryan Singer's (yuck) X-Men franchise with X2: X-Men United. All your favourites are back! Storm, Cyclops, Ice Boy, Rogue, Magnet, Wheels, Gene Grey, all in support of whatever Hugh Jackman's Wolverine wants to do. A lot of teams still talk about AI like it's some far-off future conversation. But in reality, the shift is already happening, and fast. The more interesting question now is not whether the tools are improving. It's what teams choose to do with the extra space those tools create. This week, Sam and Roop reflected on conversations coming out of the latest Magnet meeting and kept landing on the same idea: AI and agents are most valuable when they create more room for strategy, thinking, and better decision-making. Faster workflows matter, but only if they lead to sharper insights and stronger work on the other side.Because more capacity does not automatically mean more value. Teams can use it to create more content, more meetings, and more noise. Or they can use it to become more thoughtful, more focused, and more useful to the people they serve. That's the part of this moment we're paying attention to.See you next week for more Little Talks!— Claudia, Chelsea, Sam, and RoopTell us what you think!
American manufacturing's next chapter is being written one region at a time, and Northeast Ohio is one of the places setting the standard. In a region like theirs, the institutions and programs are moving in sync, and that builds into something bigger than any plant could pull off alone. That's why we're hitting the road on the Rust Belt Renaissance tour to find more places where modern technology and industrial innovation are helping to revive the area. On the first stop, we're live from Collision Bend Brewing in Cleveland with seven leaders from across the Northeast Ohio manufacturing community, working out how a region of 7,700 manufacturers turns local action into national impact. We split the conversation into three short parts: Matt Duplin (Manager, TransDigm Advanced Manufacturing Center, Cleveland State University), Kyle Zeller (NSF Engine), and Adam Artman (Executive Director, Manufacturing Works) open with what regional action actually looks like on the ground, covering the role of public universities, federal programs like the $160 million NSF Engine award, and the peer-to-peer learning behind the Manu Future program. Greg Schumacher (Director of Manufacturing, NOVAGARD) and Mike Yost (Manufacturing Excellence Program, Manufacturing Works) turn the theory into a case study, walking through the CESMII Smart Manufacturing Roadmap that Greg's team finished in six weeks at zero cost. Jillian Kupchella (Director of Marketing, CESMII) and Jonathan Wise (Chief Technology Architect, CESMII) close the conversation with what comes next nationally, including the three technology needs that every digital project should think through. This episode is for any manufacturer wondering how to make the most of the resources closest to them. In this episode, find out: What ‘regional action' means in a manufacturing ecosystem and why local organisations like Manufacturing Works act as the connective tissue between manufacturers, universities, and workforce providers How a public university with an 80% local student body and a dedicated advanced manufacturing centre creates a homegrown engineering pipeline that stays in the region What an NSF Engine award is, what it takes for a region to compete for one, and how Northeast Ohio became one of fifteen teams in the running for $160 million in federal funding Why peer-to-peer learning through the Manu Future programme moves the needle on technology adoption far more than any vendor pitch The ‘secret ingredient' each panellist credits for Northeast Ohio's manufacturing density of 7,700 manufacturers, from collaboration to history to location How CESMII is exporting the same toolset and language to other regions including Western Pennsylvania, Maryland, Los Angeles, and upstate New York The three technology imperatives Jonathan Wise lays out for any manufacturer deploying new tech – modelling data, contextualising data, and making data interoperable through tools like CESMII's I3X Enjoying the show? Please leave us a review here. Even one sentence helps. It's feedback from Manufacturing All-Stars like you that keeps us going! Tweetable Quotes: "We're a public university, and so we should be servicing the public and the manufacturers in our region. The advanced manufacturing center is that space." — Matt Duplin "Something like this doesn't just get spun up overnight. It's the result of years and years of work together. It speaks to the confidence that our federal government has in our region to compete on a global scale." — Kyle Zeller "What's unique about Northeast Ohio, every time I meet with someone, is always the same. It's this willingness to share. It's the willingness for the sum to be greater than the parts." — Adam Artman "We have connected our PLCs, and that data — real time, in engineers' hands, in operations' hands — we have unleashed the data. We are making decisions faster, smarter, with the right information." — Greg Schumacher "We talk about smart manufacturing like a destination. It's really just a tool for the leaders to lead. The leaders are the ones that own it and drive it." — Mike Yost "I feel very fortunate to live in a region that is so put together. From a national scale, we're hoping to implement things like this across the nation." — Jillian Kupchella "Technology is an enabler. It's a means to an end. It is not the end. Just buying technology isn't gonna solve your problems." — Jonathan Wise Links & mentions: Manufacturing Works, the membership-based organisation that serves as the connective tissue across Northeast Ohio's manufacturing ecosystem CESMII, the Smart Manufacturing Institute and national authority on smart manufacturing, behind the roadmap toolset and the I3X interoperability framework NSF Engine, the federal place-based innovation programme behind the $160 million regional award Northeast Ohio is competing for ManuFuture, the peer-to-peer manufacturing learning programme developed in partnership with Purdue University TransDigm Advanced Manufacturing Center at Cleveland State University, the research-oriented, public-university partner serving the Northeast Ohio engineering pipeline MAGNET, the Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network supporting manufacturers across the region Tri-C (Cuyahoga Community College), source of the grant that fully funded NOVAGARD's Smart Manufacturing Roadmap NOVAGARD, silicone adhesives, sealants, and PVC foam manufacturer featured as the case study Fathom, sponsor of the Rust Belt Renaissance tour and a network of seven regional manufacturing companies Make sure to visit http://manufacturinghappyhour.com for detailed show notes and a full list of resources mentioned in this episode. Nurse turnover is one of the most persistent challenges in healthcare leadership, and one of the clearest signals an organization sends about its culture. So how do you build a culture nurses don't want to leave? In this episode, Charlene talks with Cheryl Reinking, Chief Nursing Officer at El Camino Health, which recently earned its fifth Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, placing it among fewer than 2% of hospitals nationwide. Cheryl has spent nearly four decades at El Camino, and she walks through what 20 years of sustained Magnet excellence actually looks like at the manager and frontline level, including how the organization brought its post-COVID turnover rate from a peak of 12.7% back below 5%. We also get into the business case: how Cheryl uses her hospital foundation to fund retention pilots, what she puts in an ROI plan, and what kinds of recognition actually move the needle versus the kinds that don't. What's covered: (00:58) What it takes to sustain Magnet designation over 20 years (02:59) What Magnet looks like in practice at the manager and frontline level (07:30) A nurse manager's typical Tuesday morning at El Camino (09:25) Software platforms and the role of a dedicated nurse retention specialist (14:00) How El Camino brought turnover back below 5% after the pandemic (17:15) Building the business case for retention investments (21:18) Recognition that moves the needle vs. recognition that doesn't (23:30) What Cheryl wishes she'd known earlier about retention Host: Charlene Platon, MS, RN, FNP-BC (@charleneplaton) Guest: Cheryl Reinking, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, DipACLM — Chief Nursing Officer, El Camino Health https://www.linkedin.com/in/cherylreinking/ About the show: ACNL in Action is a production of the Association of California Nurse Leaders, the professional organization for nurse leaders. Cast your mind back to the year 2000. Okay great. And now think about the movie X-Men which introduced the world to the modern superhero movie with the likes of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, Patrick Stewarts a bald guy, Ian McKellen as Magnet and Halle Berry as a much underused Storm. And with the likes of James Marsden coming back as Cyclops for Avengers: Doomsday in 2026 this decades old Marvel franchise has never been more relevant. And then there's the Bryan Singer of it all. YUCK. Welcome to “Coffee Talks with Tim and D.J.” In this episode of Coffee Talks, Tim and DJ dive into the “silent referral killer” affecting real estate agents: weak or non-existent Google Business profiles. They explain how most clients now Google an agent before calling, and how poor ratings, few or outdated reviews, or ghost listings can quietly cost agents thousands of dollars in lost referrals every year. DJ and Tim introduce a simple three-step “Google gut check” framework: self search, profile patch, and systematic review requests, to transform an agent's online presence into a trust-building digital storefront. In this episode Andrea Samadi revisits her October 2022 interview with Dr. Caroline Leaf about how our thought patterns act as biological instructions that shape brain chemistry, behavior, and results. They explore the mind–brain distinction, the magnet analogy for pattern formation, and practical steps to interrupt negative thinking. Listeners learn why repeated thoughts build neural pathways, how beliefs trigger neurochemistry in the motivation loop, and how consistent practices—like Dr. Leaf's 63-day NeuroCycle—can rewire thinking over time for better focus, motivation, and wellbeing. This Episode, We Will Cover: ✔ What it means when we say your thoughts are “biological instruction” ✔ How your thoughts influence brain chemistry, the nervous system, and behavior ✔ Why thinking, feeling, and choosing are always working together ✔ The connection between thought patterns and future results ✔ How repeated thoughts create neural pathways and habits ✔ The Motivation Loop — and where thought patterns fit in ✔ The “magnet analogy” — how your thoughts organize patterns in the brain ✔ How to identify and change toxic or limiting thought patterns ✔ Dr. Carolyn Leaf's 63-day Neurocycle process for rewiring thinking ✔ How your internal state influences your external results and environment ✔ Why you are both shaping and responding to your environment

Chicago is seeking an emergency motion to vacate the Ford City Mall due to hazardous conditions, including a non-functional fire suppression system and exposed wiring. Shoppers lament the mall's decline but express nostalgia and concern over its potential closure. A developer proposes replacing the mall with four industrial buildings spanning 913,000 square feet, promising hundreds of jobs. Area residents are protesting this plan, preferring the mall's revitalization. The mall has faced issues with shootings and street takeovers, requiring increased police presence. The closure raises concerns about convenience for South Side residents who rely on it for shopping. Alderman Derrick Curtis supports the industrial development, highlighting its economic potential, despite local opposition.

Grace Jones was one of the era-defining multihyphenates of the 1980s, an icon of the music, fashion, and movie worlds. From Jamaica to Studio 54, she broke down barriers and smashed glass ceilings at every turn – but she was also a magnet for true crime in the process. She was arrested numerous times. She was set up, the victim of a home invasion, and she wielded a loaded gun in order to get her way. At the height of her fame, she found herself fighting to defend her honor and her truth in the face of serious jail time. In this episode of Right About Now, Ryan Alford sits down with Bob Cicero from Cisco to break down what the future of work actually looks like—and why most companies are still missing the point. As AI begins to take over repetitive tasks, the real value of work is shifting back to human connection, collaboration, and creativity. From the post-COVID workplace reset to the rise of hybrid models, this conversation explores why forcing people back to the office isn't working—and what companies should be doing instead. The key idea? Offices need to become a magnet, not a mandate, offering real value that employees can't get at home. Bob shares how Cisco is reimagining workspaces with a “me vs we” model, flipping traditional office design to prioritize collaboration over individual desks. Combined with data, AI, and smarter environments, the workplace is evolving into something far more intentional—and far more human. If you're navigating hybrid work, managing teams, or thinking about the impact of AI on your business, this episode will completely reframe how you think about where—and how—work gets done.
We were joined by writer, climate activist, and creative director, Casey Rand! Casey has done a ton and she talks about it all with Jason in this expansive chat! Casey discusses growing up in Montreal, doing odd jobs (including trying to get a musician on iTunes), then discovering advertising creativity and moving to New York. She also talks about finding improv and sketch at Magnet and how she started writing for Reductress, McSweeney's, and The New Yorker. She shares her side of the story on how she encouraged Howard Finkelstein (friend of the podcast) to pursue comedy via an email prank that reached comedy Jon Glaser. She also talks about co-writing "People Who Deserve It" and how it came to be from a blog, cofounding the climate nonprofit Potential Energy Coalition, writing a pilot that won a Black List fellowship, freelancing with Gooder (which she founded), and making entertaining messaging to counter disinformation. Hello friends! For Episode 1554, I've partnered with Hobart Rowland of the MAGNET Classics podcast series for a special South by Southwest chat with Kylie Gaspard and Jo Perillo of the fast-rising indie-rock band Cashier. Slinking out of Lafayette, Louisiana, three years ago, they've already raised plenty of eyebrows with their grunge-inspired take on emo and shoegaze. Now touring behind their debut EP, The Weight, Cashier played no less than 16 shows at last week's music conference in Austin. We have a great conversation about How they got into music, growing up listening to Christian Rock, the indie-rock scene in Lafayette, making their EP, The Weight (available now), playing SXSW, and much more. I had a great time getting to know these fine folks. I'm sure you will too. Let's get down! Find Cashier HERE Find MAGNET Classics Podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you pod. If you've been feeling stuck or uninspired—whether in your personal practice or your teaching—this episode is for you. I'm sharing how I've reignited my own creativity over the years, not by pushing harder, but by allowing myself to breathe in new experiences. From Da Vinci to Mirabai, from Einstein's violin to the poetry of Lalla, I'll take you on a journey that reveals the true source of inspiration—and how you can access it again (and again). Here's what I'll explore:
From Project X to seven figures, and from clean snacking to Amazon UAE growth, two e-commerce sellers from Dubai share lessons on product research, branding, and scaling.
Sustainability became his unfair advantage on Amazon. A veteran textile designer reveals the data-first moves, fee-saving AWD shifts, and the tester story behind the explosive growth.
Tonight's guest, Nathan, got an early start when it comes to cryptid encounters. He had his first experience in 1972, when he was only two years old. That was when he saw a group of Dogmen that he describes as clearly being supernatural in origin. Fast forward to present day and he has had multiple cryptid-related experiences. Those experiences might be connected to a disturbing experience Nathan had when he was 7 years old. It's not a given that's the case, but there's a strong possibility what happened that night is what has been behind him having all of the experiences he's had with cryptids. On tonight's show, he's going to share all of those experiences. We hope you'll tune in and listen to him do that.If you'd like to contact Nathan, he can be reached at… NathanSarea@gmail.com MY NEW DOGMAN PODCAST!My new podcast is called "Dogman Tales.” It features fictional stories about Dogmen and people who have experiences with them.
