Hello dear listener, Vanessa here. First off, I want to let you know about a unique in-person event that Nocturne will be part of in the San Francisco Bay Area on Saturday, January 10th. Way back last January we released the episode, Impression, in which I followed artist, Nathanael Gray out to the wilds of the Point Reyes National Seashore, and chronicled his process of creating a large triptych painting of the ocean, in the dark. If you'll be in the Bay Area on January 10th, I'd like to invite you to an intimate immersive experience in which we'll gather together from 6:30-9pm, listen to the episode, AND reveal the painting that Nathanael created for the first time, along with his newly created series, Ocean Fields. What's more, they'll be time to mingle in the lovely art/gathering space - A Loft of One's Own, in Emeryville, purchase yummy pop up food, amidst a newly created soundscape by Nocturne composer, and co-creator, Kent Sparling. The event is free, but there are limited spots available, so RSVP is required. You can find event details at https://www.aloftofonesown.com/impression . And speaking of past episodes, I thought I'd drop an old holiday favorite into the feed as a rebroadcast. The episode is Tree People, from back in 2017, featuring Joel Shupack, who worked for years guarding Christmas Trees at night in NYC. Joel is highly entertaining as he recalls the ins and outs of this very unique nocturnal gig. So, whether you're revisiting this story or hearing it for the first time, I hope you enjoy it. There's a funny thing about Christmas in New York: In a city where most of the living trees are clumped together in just a few areas, right around Thanksgiving new clumps of trees start popping up all over this mostly concrete and asphalt setting. The tree stands sprinkled throughout the city create a festive air, but there's another dimension to the world of Christmas trees in New York City at night. Back in 2020, members of the violent group The Proud Boys jumped a fence and defaced the Black Lives Matter sign at Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church. They filmed themselves destroying the sign while chanting racial epithets.Metropolitan AME wasn't the only Black church in D.C. to be attacked that night, but their response to the violence was unique. They sued the Proud Boys for damages, and when the group failed to pay, the church won the rights to their trademark. Now, they're selling merch using the PB logo to raise money for their Community Justice Fund. It's an amazing story, but it's only the backdrop to our conversation this week with Reverend Lamar. Katie and LaFonda's conversation with him spanned so many topics, from the importance of storytelling to the power of love to how to have conversations with our family members at the holiday table. They discussed how the far-right has tried to co-opt Christianity but progressive pastors like Rev. Lamar are still fighting for justice and love — you know, actual Christian values.Rev. Lamar has a book coming out next year called Ancestors: Those Who Bless Us, Curse Us, and Hold Us. He's more directly connected to the past than most—Metropolitan AME is the oldest continuously Black-owned property in D.C and held the funerals of Frederick Douglass and Rosa Parks—but we're all shaped by our ancestors. In recognizing our ancestors, we recognize the stories we tell about ourselves. This conversation is a great way to get in the Christmas spirit, but even if you don't celebrate, his humanity and leadership are inspiring. We hope you enjoy it.And if you'd like to join us for our virtual "Pre-Gaming 2026" event, you can learn more and RSVP here. For a transcript of this episode, please email comms@redwine.blue. Email us: Will@faithfulpoliticspodcast.comIn this episode, Will and Josh talk with Dr. George Yancey, a sociologist at Baylor University who specializes in race, identity politics, Christianophobia, and how faith communities can move beyond today's culture-war structures. The conversation unpacks why identity politics has become such a powerful force, how Christians can disentangle their core identity from political tribes, and why social identity theory helps explain today's polarization. Dr. Yancey also discusses his research on Christianophobia, the limits of both conservative and progressive models, and how a Christ-centered identity offers a more honest path forward than culture-war loyalty.Additional ResourcesDr. Yancey's YouTube channel: Shattering ParadigmsSociology Department at Baylor University (contact): https://www.baylor.edu/sociology/Guest BioDr. George Yancey is a sociologist and professor at Baylor University whose work focuses on race, social identity, anti-Christian bias, and the intersection of faith and culture. Delight Your Marriage | Relationship Advice, Christianity, & Sexual Intimacy
Christmas can feel magical. It can also feel exhausting. If you're a parent who secretly feels pressure rising as the holidays approach—the expectations, the mess, the emotions, the memories—you're not alone. And sometimes, the clearest wisdom doesn't come from another parenting book or productivity hack. Sometimes it comes from children. I sat down with my two sons for a conversation about Christmas. I expected sweetness and laughter (and we definitely had that). But what I didn't expect was how profoundly wise their reflections would be—for moms and dads who want to keep Christ and joy at the center, even when emotions run high. May this conversation be a gentle reminder for all of us about what truly matters this season. The Most Important Thing During the Holiday Season When I asked my boys what makes Christmas special, their answers were simple: Being with family Giving and receiving gifts And most importantly—Jesus Isn't it interesting how easy it is for adults to know that truth, but still lose sight of it when stress enters the room? Kids seem to understand something we forget:Christmas isn't about perfection. It's about presence. Not perfect decorations. Not perfect meals. Not perfect behavior. But hearts that are oriented toward love. How Christmas Gets Derailed (And What Actually Matters) One of the most insightful moments came when we talked about what can ruin Christmas. Their answer? A negative, ungrateful attitude. And then they surprised me again by pointing out something many parents don't want to hear: "Adults need to remember this too." Children feel the atmosphere of a home.Even when no words are spoken. Tension.Unresolved anger.Stress that leaks out sideways. Kids may not understand the details—but they absolutely feel the weight. And when parents are overwhelmed or snapping at each other, it impacts everything. When You're Tempted to Snap at Your Spouse So, what do you do when you're tempted to snap at your spouse? Here's where the conversation turned especially tender. We talked about parents getting stressed—especially moms who want everything to be "just right" before guests arrive. And my sons said something profound: Take ownership of your emotions Don't take stress out on your spouse Walk away if you need to Calm your body before speaking They emphasized taking ownership of the way you choose to respond. We discussed Matthew 12:36 that says, "I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak," The win isn't never feeling frustrated. The win is choosing restraint, humility, and love in the moment of temptation. The Gift of Calming Yourself Before You Speak How do you calm yourself before you lose your temper? They offered practical ideas—simple, doable, grace-filled: Take a walk Drink cold water Take deep breaths Step outside or into another room Take a long shower with space to think Not to avoid responsibility—but to prevent harm. Because once harsh words are spoken, they linger. And children remember not just what we say—but how it felt to be in our presence. If You've Messed Up Before… There Is Grace What if Christmas in the past was painful? What if words were spoken—or wounds created—that still ache? Their advice? Pray Go to the person you hurt Say "I'm sorry" sincerely Ask if there's anything you can do to repair And then—trust God with what you cannot undo. You are not disqualified from joy because of past mistakes. Keeping Christ at the Center (Without Adding Pressure) When I asked how families can keep Jesus at the center of Christmas, their answers weren't complicated: A nativity scene A meaningful star on the tree Praying before meals Simply thinking about Jesus Not performance. Not religious pressure. Just intentional reminders. Sometimes the most Christ-centered thing you can do is slow down enough to remember why you're celebrating. Final Thoughts: What Happens After Christmas The final question: When January comes, how do you want to remember this Christmas? My boys said: Happy, Safe, Grateful, Hopeful. Not impressed. Not exhausted. Not relieved it's over. But filled. That kind of Christmas doesn't come from doing more. It comes from being more present. If the holidays feel intimidating this year, hear this:You don't have to create a perfect Christmas. You are invited to cultivate a peaceful one. One where Christ is honored. Where your marriage is protected. Where your children feel safe. Where grace is louder than stress. And if you feel overwhelmed already—pause. Jesus came for this kind of moment. May your home be filled with warmth, peace, and joy this season. And may Christ—not pressure—be at the center. Tune into this Year's December Downshift & Uplift Episode. A yearly practice we always do, but that varies year by year based on the energy and focus we need. Join us for the full Reflection Ritual www.ReflectionRitual.com The December Downshift signals to our internal systems (and the people and projects around us) that it's time to start the slow down vs. get swirled into the year-end or holiday madness, followed by new year start pressure. It's the cyclical co-creation rhythm and structure we practice to mimic the natural world, who has managed to prosper for billlions of year (and gives us a template for how to evolve, grow and thrive). Think of the practice of downshifting at year end like driving a manual transmission car - you don't want to keep moving through Dec in 5th gear, at a high pace/ intensity/output still running on mental or emotional stressors from the weeks/months prior, and then hard downshift into neutral the last days of the year ... you'll blow out your system. And then likely need to recover. So you start depleted vs. ready to receive. It's a wiser to move through the gears one by one, over the course of weeks, so you can: savor your connections, deeply replenish, and receive from all you have created this past cycle. Making choices that support you to be healthy, clear and ready to receive inspiration, insight and clarity for focusing and co-creating next year. This year ... I tuned into for what was needed this December Downshift and realized we would also benefit with a Consciousness Uplift too. So we can really replenish our light + shake off the stress + see the progress and difference our effort and care has made + work with the inner "heart alchemy" already happening within us, including releasing inner patterns and past experiences that it's time to heal, let go and rise stronger and more compassionate from. Our exploration today is framed around the 4 themes below. I'll guide you through some reflective meditations + give you wisdom inquiries that support you to make choices in Dec + Jan that give you energy, support your system and your alignment. (Wisdom Inquiries here on my website) Ritual and Rhythm Reflect, Recognize. Release, Reset. Restore. Resonance. Receive. We will be shining a light on things like: the invisible impact your energy and effort has made where there's momentum created from incremental progress rituals and rhythms you can put in place now in Dec and Jan making choices from wisdom of what restores, replenishes vs. obligation, guilt, and FOMO For 16 years I've created this structure through December and January for the co-creators, leaders + people + teams willing to do things differently, wiser. If you've been scrolling lately, you've probably noticed lots of comet chatter about 3I/ATLAS. What's all the bruhaha about and what does it mean for you? I’ll cut through the cosmic fluff and make this simple. If you want to attend the Free Winter Solstice event on Sunday, 12/21 at 4pm ET, RSVP here to let me know. What Is 3I/ATLAS? Let's start with the basics. 3I/ATLAS is an interstellar comet, meaning it's not from our solar system. It's a cosmic traveler cruising at over 100,000 miles an hour. It will make its closest approach to Earth around December 19, 2025, which means around 170 million miles away. So yes, it's rare and worth paying attention to. But physically? You're fine. Humanity is fine. The planet is fine. Now spiritually… this is where things get interesting. People Are Lit Up About This Comet Astronomers love it because it's only our third known interstellar visitor after ‘Oumuamua and Borisov. But the spiritual community is lit up because of the timing, the symbolism, and the energetic ripples many intuitives are already feeling. Channelers are comparing notes. Astrologers are cross-referencing charts. Energy sensitives have that familiar “something's shifting” hum inside their chest. Think of 3I/ATLAS as a celestial tuning fork drifting through our sky, humming just enough that the sensitive folks among us feel the vibration before it even arrives. Many spiritual teachers call it a light-packed traveler carrying clarity, recalibration, and what some describe as “reset frequency.” Not in a dramatic destruction way, but in a gentle, rebalancing way. Think of it as the energetic version of straightening your crown and realigning your inner compass. It's as if the Universe is whispering, “Time to recalibrate.” What Does the Comet Offer? Potentially, so many good things come with this comet including, an inner reset, energetic balance, heightened intuition, a return to your aligned Self, and all sorts of positive upgrades in how you sense and navigate the world. The most important point, in my opinion? Nothing is happening to you because you're not a victim of 3I/ATLAS. Instead, you're being invited to partner with it. Symbolic Meaning Hidden in the Name Now let's discuss the metaphysics for a moment because “3I/ATLAS” is full of symbolic goodies. According to numerology, “3” is about creation. think of the cycle of birth, death, rebirth. It's the number that says something new is coming. Then the letter “I” points to intuition, identity, insight, and the observing Self. Put these together and you get creation plus consciousness. A cosmic reminder that you are not a passive passenger in your own life. You're a co-creator! What about “3rd Eye + Atlas” The third eye is your intuitive center, your inner vision, your ability to sense truth without proof. Atlas is the top vertebra that holds your head, the mythological guardian who carried the world, and the name we give to global maps. Suddenly 3I/ATLAS becomes a message about higher perception, energetic support, nervous-system alignment, and carrying a new level of awareness in the body. That's the kind of upgrade I can get behind. Why the Timing Matters Astronomically, the closest approach is December 19, 2025. Spiritually, many view the full 12/18–12/19 window as an energetic corridor. It’s a moment when life pauses just long enough for you to feel the subtle shift before the next level loads. And let’s not forget that 2025 is a nine year according to numerology, which is all about completion. Things naturally fall away, resolve, or wrap up. So the timing of this comet is pretty synchronistic, don’t you think? How Might 3I/ATLAS Affect You? • Clearer intuition • Emotional clearing • Heightened sensitivity • A desire to rest • Sudden clarity about what's ending • Fresh inspiration This comet is giving you time to ask yourself important questions such as: “Are your actions matching your intentions?” “Are you living as the person you say you want to be?” “What truth are you finally ready to honor?” The good news is there’s no judgment or no punishment, only clarity. Balance Masculine & Feminine Energy Another theme connected to 3I/ATLAS is the balancing of masculine and feminine energy, which are the divine polarities within you. Think of these opposites: • Drive and receptivity • Action and restoration • Doing and being • Protecting and allowing • Structure and flow When one side dominates, imbalance shows up in your body, your choices, your relationships. The comet's energy highlights what needs attention, like sunlight revealing dust on the bookshelf you swear was clean yesterday. Now don’t think 3I/ATLAS will do the shift for you, but it helps you see where the shift is ready and waiting. It shines clarifying light into your world, so you can make the upgrade and let your divine feminine rise. How to Work With the 12/18 Portal The practices don't need to be dramatic or ceremonial. Let them be simple: 1. Conduct a gentle review of the past year and ask: What is ending? What no longer resonates? What feels ready to be reborn? 2. Balance your masculine and feminine. When you take action, then be sure to rest. If you move, then afterwards stretch. Honor both your fire and your flow. 3. Third-eye alignment. You might try light meditation, intuitive journaling, or placing one hand on your heart and the other on your belly, while breathing slowly. 4. Neck and Atlas stretches. Consider chin tucks, shoulder rolls, gentle neck tilts. Tell your body, “I'm ready to carry awareness with ease.” or “Thank you for all that you do for me, I love you.” 5. Grounding. Take a slow walk outside in nature and pay attentionto your surroundings. Send roots down into the earth to connect with Mother Earth and everything she embodies. Then allow that energy to rise into you feet and up through all your chakras. So nourishing! What’s the Real Message of 3I/ATLAS Here's the bottom line. There's no dramatic upheaval coming. Instead, this comet acts as a reminder to say you're evolving, awakening, and rebalancing. And the good news is that the Universe is supporting every step. Think of this event as a powerful invitation to trust and strengthen your intuition, allow your divine feminine energy to rise and feel vibrantly alive and aligned. It's a gentle guide with impeccable timing. Cosmic synchronicity at its finest. As 3I/ATLAS moves through our sky on 12/18 and 12/19, take a moment to choose what this means for you. The power isn't out there in the sky or anywhere outside yourself. It's in you. It is you. 3I/ATLAS simply arrives at the perfect moment to help you remember your truth, your path, and your power. Are you ready to embrace what's next? I sure hope so! The post Is 3I/ATLAS Doom And Gloom Or A Positive Cosmic Upgrade? appeared first on Intuitive Edge.
This week's Growing and Developing With Your Horse Q and A was a really special one, as my mom JoElyn stepped in to host it. She shared so much wisdom from her own riding journey, from choosing horses to developing bend, setting goals, and learning to truly love the horse you have at every stage. Why bend mattersJoElyn spent time explaining why bend is so foundational. Bend supports safety, helps the horse stay attentive, and allows the inside hind leg to step under and strengthen the body. True bend comes from the rib cage, not just the neck, and you can see it when the head and tail stay on the same line of the circle.Your body influences the bendShe reminded us that rider position plays a big role. If we collapse or tip, it becomes harder for the horse to bend around the inside leg. Thinking about your alignment and allowing your body to guide the bend can make your aids much clearer and more effective.Groundwork and patternsGroundwork is a powerful way to improve bend. Asking for more bend on the ground helps it show up more easily under saddle, and riding clear patterns helps keep both horse and rider organized and balanced.Goals and long term developmentThere was a thoughtful discussion about goals, from big long term dreams to small daily steps. Breaking goals down and focusing on rider position, learning, visualization, and consistency helps you make progress even when saddle time is limited.Loving the horse you haveOne of the most touching parts of this conversation was the reminder that loving your horse matters, regardless of the level. Horses can continue to grow, improve, and connect with us deeply, even as their bodies change with age.Thank you for being part of this community and for bringing so much care and thoughtfulness to your horses and your riding.Happy riding,AmeliaPS Bootcamp is coming up soon. If you have not signed up yet, be sure to do that so you do not miss the daily lives, exercises, and motivation to head into the new year feeling focused and inspired. RSVP here for bootcamp.

We were so lucky this week to be joined by Prentis Hemphill: a therapist, teacher, political organizer, and bestselling author of What It Takes to Heal. So often we hear women say that things feel deeply wrong right now and they want to do something about it. But how do we engage without losing ourselves? It can feel like pain is the only way to make change, like we can only heal the world if we're willing to be exhausted and broken ourselves along the way.Prentis offers a different perspective. What if we can actually heal our systems while healing ourselves? What if it's not about checking off items on a to-do list? They suggest that if we can be more present, listen with curiosity to ourselves and our neighbors, it doesn't just make us feel more centered. It's actually more effective organizing. You can try out a centering practice with their video here or by checking out their work at prentishemphill.com. If you've been feeling tired, overwhelmed, unmotivated, or struggling to stay consistent, this episode is going to meet you exactly where you are. Today, Michal Renee speaks directly to the woman asking:“How do I stay consistent when I'm tired?”“How do I get motivated again?”“How do I balance faith, wellness, and mental health?”“How do I stay focused spiritually when life feels heavy?”In this intimate and powerful conversation, Michal shares the real behind-the-scenes journey of navigating exhaustion, healing emotionally and spiritually, and rebuilding her wellness rhythms while still showing up for her calling. She unpacks why you must know what drives you, how faith fuels consistency, why community matters, and how regulating your mind and spirit is foundational to clarity and confidence. This episode will help you reframe consistency—not as pressure, but as purpose. Not as hustle, but as healing. Not as perfection, but as partnership with God.As you prepare for 2026, this is your reminder to start with intentionality, alignment, and spiritual rhythm… so you can build from a place of peace, not burnout.
In this episode, we're diving deep into the exact system I used to go from empty RSVP lists to waitlists all without relying on daily posting or exhausting social media efforts. If you've ever poured your heart into planning a retreat, workshop, or event and heard more “Oops, I forgot!” than “I'm in!” then this episode is for you. I'm sharing the proven ads + funnel strategy that transformed how I promote events (and how my Latina clients do the same).Whether you're planning a wellness retreat, community workshop, or a local pop-up — this system will help you fill your events with aligned, excited attendees who actually show up.
Fresh off a NY visit, Dr. Naomi dishes about the house/dog sitter she hired and reveals the texts she sent throughout the weekend that set off alarm bells. Newly married, a woman's Overshare highlights her need to communicate to her partner that the news links and videos they share throughout the day are only raising her blood pressure. Seeking validation, a listener wonders if her constant RSVP of “No” to a friend's outings is warranted or if she should try and say yes on of these days. A voicemail from a Betch that feels abandoned asks for an intention related to residual anger and resentment after her sister and God child moved far away. A young, accomplished doctor feels burnt every time her colleagues and patients don't address her formally, and a newly minted executive is given mixed messages about her contributions, and the hosts give triggered scores for both. What if the way you've been told to get fit… is exactly what's holding you back? If you're over 40 and still not where you want to be with your fitness or health, it might not be about willpower. It might be the method. This week on The Health Feast, I'm joined by Maxime Sigouin — founder of FitVegan Coaching — to unpack why so many traditional fitness plans fail us… and what actually works instead. Maxime has helped hundreds of people in their 40s, 50s, and beyond reclaim their health, reverse chronic conditions, and build sustainable strength — without chasing aesthetics or burning out. In this episode, we get into: Why most fitness advice sets people up to fail How to rebuild trust in your body after years of dieting or injury What mindset and habits actually sustain long-term change Why slowing down — even unplugging — can be a power move Maxime also shares what he believes is the single most important investment you can make in your health after 40: strength training. Not just for looks — but for confidence, function, and long-term vitality. Since we recorded, Maxime announced the release of his new book, Forever Fit — which is available for preorder now here. If you've ever felt like the quick fixes aren't working anymore… this episode offers something deeper. Live well and RAK ON, – Dr. Rak

Last night's Q and A was such a fun conversation about horse personalities and how to adjust your riding to match the horse you have. Stacie joined us live, which was a treat because many of you know her from the comments section and as a Strides member. We covered everything from reading your horse's natural tendencies to adjusting your own energy and building confidence in both young and experienced horses.Understanding personalitySome horses are hot, some laid back, and many shift depending on our energy. The big takeaway was noticing the small signs and matching your approach. Raise your energy for a dull horse. Slow everything down for a sensitive one.Groundwork builds confidenceFor green or new horses, groundwork is the place to start. Leading, bending, yielding, and responding to pressure help the horse feel safe and give you tools you can use later in the saddle. It has made a huge difference for Stacy and her boys. The basics always winWinter is the perfect time to revisit stretching, bending, rhythm, and suppleness. Going back to basics makes everything easier when you start schooling movements again.Thank you to the Dressage FoundationWe also highlighted the Dressage Foundation and the many grants that support riders. Stacie recently received the Gifted Memorial Grant, and our own “Dressage for All” Youth Fund will award its first grants this spring. Community support truly keeps our sport thriving.Thank you all for joining and for being part of this amazing community. Your questions and your stories are what make these live sessions so meaningful.Happy ridingAmeliaPS. Don't forget to RSVP for Bootcamp coming in January!

She works out her writer's block in her sons' gardens and the nearest lap pool.Key Highlights:The extensive 8.5-month research process behind Tangles, including oral testimonies, archival histories, and peer-reviewed scientific research. The fascinating but troubling history of the Hanford Nuclear Plant, where workers were told their jobs were top secret and essential to the war effort. How officials repeatedly raised the “safe” level of radioactive waste in the water supply to downplay risks to surrounding communities. The long-term dangers and ethical concerns surrounding nuclear waste disposal. Her book flight includes dual-timeline historical fiction.Connect with Kay Smith-Blum:FacebookInstagramWebsiteBooks and authors mentioned:Leon Uris booksTo Kill a Mockingbird by Harper LeeThe Lincoln Highway by Amor TowlesThe Witch Elm by Tana FrenchHappy-Go-Lucky by David SedarisAtmosphere by Taylor Jenkins ReidBook FlightKeeping Faith by Jodi PicoultThe Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins ReidHorse by Geraldine BrooksJoin us for the BFF Book Club Holiday Party!

Send us a textIn this solo episode, Kara explores the fascinating research behind how daily reading may support a longer, healthier life. She breaks down the landmark Yale study showing that people who read books for just 30 minutes a day lived an average of 23 months longer than non-readers, examines why book-length reading provides unique cognitive benefits, and discusses what current science says about print books versus audiobooks.Listeners will walk away with a deeper understanding of how reading strengthens the brain, builds cognitive reserve, and may contribute to healthy aging - plus practical ideas for fitting more reading into everyday life.Episode Highlights:• Reading books for just 30 minutes a day was linked to 23 extra months of life, on average.• Frequent reading is associated with reduced cognitive decline across multiple long-term studies.• Print or visual reading tends to support stronger comprehension and memory - key components of brain reserve.• Audiobooks activate many of the same language and emotional brain networks, though the depth of processing may differ.• Regardless of format, regular engagement with stories supports cognitive health.Resources Mentioned:Episode 116: Do Audiobooks Count as Reading?Bavishi, Slade & Levy (2016).
