A tale as old as time, a nuanced experience, and still a reality for us. On the social totem pole, Black grils & women are ranked dead last. Robbed of our youth, innocence, and autonomy, Black girls & women can never choose our race or gender first as we don't have that luxury. If you identify with this group, we're sure you've heard the phrase "stop acting grown" or "she's fast" or "go change, you're showing too much". From the jump, Black girls are not allowed to be children in comparison to our [other race] counterparts which bleeds into womanhood as we have to learn to mother our inner child and mend our relationship with sexuality. Apparently the correct colloquialism is to be "equally YOKED" not "equally YOLKED". Don't worry, it got us too. In today's episode, we discuss what it means to be equally yoked in a romantic partnership and briefly touch on platonic friendships. In it's literal interpretation, to be equally yoked with another person is to be "joined with the same." The same what? That's a question to be answered by you but it's important to take into consideration the the things you value the most, the life you live, and your nonnegotiables.
