WE'RE BACK! We missed you and we hope you've missed us as well. Just 2 weeks ago, it was time again for the love event of the year...Valentine's Day! What better way to close out the month than to bring back the love conversation and expound on it. In this week's conversation, we discuss what "healthy" love means & looks like to us. As many of us have been exposed to countless examples of unhealthy love, we're looking to continue to change the narrative and focus on love that is conscious and intentional. Whether it be romantic, friendship, or familial love, we all deserve to receive the healthiest and purest form of love in world that's already so cruel.  Follow us on social media: - Instagram: @readtheroompod - Twitter: @readtheroompod - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/readtheroompodcast - Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJQlRAJeMQWa9hbBwW5sy_A?view_as=subscriber Email us with any questions, comments, concerns, or if you'd like advice on a particular situation at readtheroompod@gmail.com

A tale as old as time, a nuanced experience, and still a reality for us. On the social totem pole, Black grils & women are ranked dead last. Robbed of our youth, innocence, and autonomy, Black girls & women can never choose our race or gender first as we don't have that luxury. If you identify with this group, we're sure you've heard the phrase "stop acting grown" or "she's fast" or "go change, you're showing too much". From the jump, Black girls are not allowed to be children in comparison to our [other race] counterparts which bleeds into womanhood as we have to learn to mother our inner child and mend our relationship with sexuality. In this episode we explore the sexualization of Black girls and women starting with slavery, post-(legal)slavery stereotypes, the rise of hip hop, and where we stand today.  If you have thought on this topic, you can interact with us via twitter using the hastag #readtheroompod.  Source material: - Selling Sexy: Hip Hop culture's commodification of Black female sexualization  - The Historical Roots of the Sexualization of Black Women and Girls  Follow us on social media: - Instagram: @readtheroompod - Twitter: @readtheroompod - Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJQlRAJeMQWa9hbBwW5sy_A?view_as=subscriber Email us with any questions, comments, concerns, or if you'd like advice on a particular situation at readtheroompod@gmail.com

In today's sweet tea we discuss the cosby verdict in which the master chemist has been freed from prison after confessing to drugging and sexual assualting multiple women of which he was convicted for one. How is he free? Why is he free? How do we see cases like Cosby's show up in our everyday life? What contributes to the constant lack of injustice?
