In this episode, the Houston How To and his wife, Katie, talk through one of the most powerful things they have done to strengthen their marriage: share their financial info with a group of friends. We have a conversation on what they did, why they did it, and what that one conversation seven years ago led to in their marriage. Revealing our financial info feels off limits and strange, even in our deep church relationships where we are not hesitant to talk through sex, pornography, anger, doubt...why? Keeping these issues to ourselves and siloed in our marriages is a recipe for sin and miscommunication with our spouse. Opening our whole life, including our money life, to trusted friends takes away the burden of walking through financial issues alone and gives us a lifeline if money is leading to stress, pain, and hurt in our marriages. We invite all of you to listen and reach out to us if you are interested in doing something similar.

In this episode, Ryan and Colby have special guest Michael Blue on to discuss his book: Free to Follow: Discover the Riches of a Surrendered Life. We dig into Michael's life and how he exchanged living the American dream to free following Jesus. We also get down into the details of saving, giving, and debt in the context of a surrendered life. Inside Cover: LIVE THE FREE LIFE OF A SURRENDERED FOLLOWER OF JESUS Most of us say we want to walk closer with God, but when you examine our lives, that desire isn't very evident. Why don't we consistently live how we say we want to live? In this book, Michael Blue examines the call of Jesus and the barriers to walking closely with Him. He exhorts us to take seriously the call of Jesus and to order our lives in such a way that draws us nearer to our Savior and presents a compelling witness to our watching neighbors. When Jesus calls us to follow Him, He tells us we must lay down our lives and pick up our crosses. He tells us that this way is narrow and few find it. While His call might feel weighty and difficult, it's only when we obey it that we experience the freedom of following Jesus. Free to Follow is a call to surrender everything to Jesus and start following in His way. It will take a particular look at what the Bible says about following Jesus when it comes to money and possessions and challenge us to rethink the way we view and use money. Ultimately, Free to Follow is a call to hunger after God and rid ourselves of any baggage preventing that pursuit. It is a call to freedom and joy.

In this episode, Ryan and Colby get in to the third step on your financial journey: defining your goals. Goals help us make the right long term decision, make rational decisions in the moment, and provide the key underpinnings to our journey with money.
Now that you know your why, the next step in your financial journey is to know where you are. All journeys start with a single step - where are you starting from? Ryan and Colby discuss knowing where you are emotionally in your journey with money (Your Money Story) as well as the financial side (net worth and cash flow).
