How much of your financial life have you never said out loud to another person, and what is that silence actually costing you?Sam sits down with Dr. Megan McCoy, the first Certified Financial Therapist and Acting Chair of the Personal Financial Planning program at Kansas State University. Megan knew she wanted to be a therapist as a kid. She was midway through a doctorate in family therapy when the Great Recession hit, and her faculty started cross-training marriage and family therapists alongside financial planning students. Sitting next to a financial planner while treating clients changed her practice permanently, and she never stopped taking the finance coursework. She now runs the financial planning program at K-State, co-edits the Financial Planning Review, and researches the intersection most financial plans ignore entirely: money and well-being.In this conversation:What a financial therapist actually is, and how the discipline came out of the Great RecessionWhy the emotional case for a paid-off mortgage can beat the math on paperThe shame that followed 2008, and why self-forgiveness is a financial stepHow retirement takes your identity along with your title, and who it hits hardestWhy your ten-year dream stays vague, and the questions that force it into focusThe quarterly lottery ticket date she runs with her husbandThe $20 experiment proving giving beats spending, even when people are forced into itWhy 70% of people have not talked to a living soul about money in a yearFinancial infidelity, and why it damages a marriage close to the level of actual infidelityThe prenup reframe that takes money off the table instead of putting it onWhy charitable giving is one of the biggest fights couples have about moneyHow spenders and savers slowly push each other to opposite extremesThe money story parents pass to their kids without ever saying it out loudMaking a 12-year-old earn a $400 bat, and where enabling actually comes fromWhether college still makes sense, and the two-plus-two path she recommendsTopics covered: financial therapy, money psychology, behavioral finance, money and marriage, financial infidelity, joint accounts, prenuptial agreements, divorce planning, spending and happiness, charitable giving, financial socialization, raising kids with wealth, enabling adult children, retirement identity, college ROI, one income households, wealth psychologyGuest: Megan McCoy, Ph.D., Acting Chair of Personal Financial Planning, Kansas State University | https://www.linkedin.com/in/megan-mccoy-phdNewsletter: https://www.mechanicsofmoney.coWebsite: https://silvermancapital.comSubscribe for weekly conversations on private markets, alternative investments, and the mechanics behind building real wealth.#financialtherapy #moneyandmarriage #wealthpsychology #behavioralfinance #financialinfidelity #moneymindset #raisingwealthykids #privatemarkets #personalfinance #mechanicsofmoney

This episode starts with heatwaves and trashy beaches in Southern California and somehow ends with a full‑on intervention for modern men. We clown on hiking with bears, talk real jiu jitsu life, and then dive deep into one of the biggest issues we see: husbands who refuse to grow up and hand all the responsibility to their wives. We break down what happens when men act like permanent teenagers—letting their partner run every dollar, asking for “allowance” from their own paycheck, and wondering why there's zero respect in the relationship. We talk shared accounts, leadership, paying bills, and why both people in a marriage need to be adults with their money.Along the way there are stories from the UPS days, wild doctor visits, building a 4 a.m. BJJ class at Checkmat Menifee, and a heartfelt tribute to the uncle who paid for that first year of jiu jitsu and sparked everything. It's raw, funny, uncomfortable, and exactly the kind of conversation that usually only happens after training on the mats.Topics: Brazilian jiu jitsu, modern masculinity, marriage and money, shared bank accounts, men's self‑improvement, gym culture, community, mentorship. If you tell me which of the five titles you're leaning toward, I can tweak the first 2–3 lines of the YouTube description to match that hook perfectly. Please Follow BJJ Balance on all of our socials:IG: @BJJBalanceDiscord: discord.gg/bjjbalanceTik Tok: @BJJBalanceYouTube: YouTube.com/@BJJBalanceKenny IG: @KennyDoesBJJMatt IG: @oss_nation_bjj

"Money is one of those things that people just consider as an afterthought. The older you get and the more responsibilities you have, you start to realize money is a tool, and it's required for health and happiness." In this episode, Heather sits down with Douglas and Heather Boneparth to dig into the often uncomfortable but wholly necessary work of talking about finances with your partner. Together, they unpack what really happens beneath the surface when couples avoid money conversations, and how bringing these truths forward can transform the intimacy, teamwork, and emotional safety in your relationship. Explore the stories we inherit around money, why it feels so vulnerable to speak up, and the simple shifts that help you feel like you're on the same team again. What to listen for: ✨ Money is not an afterthought; it's a tool for cultivating health and happiness ✨ How Douglas and Heather first understood that they needed to talk about money ✨ Overcoming the fear of speaking up with your partner about finances "You're communicating even when you're not communicating. Your body language, your actions, and the way that you're passive-aggressive about it. You're just failing to say the thing that needs to be said." ✨ Opening the door to teamwork and shared responsibility in your relationship ✨ Letting go of the "Prince Charming is going to save me" and taking ownership ✨ The importance of acknowledging the impact partners have on one another "The collective ambition needs to come to life here because you share a life together. You still get to be your own person, but you're playing a team game. Championships are won through team efforts, and this is what collaboration is all about. Your marriage is essentially a collaboration of life, and money is this game that you don't get to opt out of." ✨ Why freedom is emotionally uncomfortable and how to navigate that ✨ The question Douglas and Heather ask every couple to bring them together ✨ The power of energetic time management and chasing the feeling you're after "It's not the thing you want, it's the feeling. You say you want more money, more accolades, another book, this, this, this. Amazing. Take it. But what's the feeling you're after?" ✨ The importance of valuing the journey as much as you value the end goal ✨ Benchmarking your money goals and navigating the resistance that comes up ✨ Understanding that intimacy is directly connected to your financial health About Douglas and Heather Boneparth: Heather and Douglas Boneparth are the co-authors of Money Together: How to find fairness in your relationship and become an unstoppable financial team. This week we're celebrating our 10 year anniversary by sharing some lessons about money, partnership, and staying excited about the long game.10 years of marriage isn't just a milestone, it's a record of every choice you made together, from buying a house to splitting a check to deciding who's unloading the dishwasher. Some of those choices aged well. Others? Let's just say they came with late fees.In this episode, we get into:What to do when “my idea” needs “our money,” and how to bring and how to bring it up without sounding like you're making a sales pitch or begging for permissionThe difference between conviction and borrowed confidence, and how to tell if you're just hyped by somebody else's resultsThe price we've paid for decisions that looked fine in the moment but flopped later and how we move on without dragging it out.Why marriage isn't 50/50 most of the time, and how keeping score only makes the game worse. The trap of calling yourself “the responsible one” or “the spender,” and how those roles mess with the way you see each otherThe metrics that matter more than net worth if you want your marriage (and your life) to feel exciting in year 20, 30, and beyond Connect with Julien and Kiersten on our website, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.Join our email list to get updates from us, opportunities for discounts, freebies and a quick rundown on the relevant financial and career news impacting your life. In this episode of Truth Talk Live ( I guest-host on Wednesdays), I started with a little laughter, but the conversation quickly turned to the deeper reality of marriage. Drawing from Scripture, from our culture, and from my own 39 years with Gracie, I shared why I believe “weddings cost money, but marriage costs everything.” Along the way, listeners called in with raw and vulnerable stories. One man opened up about childhood trauma that still weighs heavily on his marriage. Another shared how Christ delivered him from addiction. Others reflected on decades of faithfulness in their own homes. Their honesty gave us all a reminder that marriage isn't about ease or comfort—it's about sacrificial love, just as Ephesians 5 commands. This wasn't a light episode, but it was a hopeful one. We laughed at the start, we listened to pain in the middle, and we ended with a clear picture of what covenant love really costs—and why it's worth it.   Read the article at BLAZE MEDIA https://www.theblaze.com/columns/opinion/weddings-cost-money-marriage-costs-everything Check out my new book (08/20/2025)!

Divorce is never the goal, but sometimes it's the only solution to an abusive, destructive marriage. Yet, for many Christian women, the fear of financial ruin keeps them stuck in unhealthy relationships. Today, we're tackling that fear head-on with financial expert Rhonda Noordyk, founder of the Women's Financial Wellness Center and host of the podcast Disrupting Divorce Conversations for Women. Rhonda has dedicated her career to helping women navigate the financial complexities of divorce with confidence and clarity. In this episode, she shares practical strategies for financial empowerment, ways to uncover hidden assets, and how to build a strong support team so that no woman has to walk this journey alone. If you've ever felt trapped by financial insecurity or overwhelmed by the thought of handling money on your own, this conversation is for you. Key Takeaways Divorce Isn't the First Choice, But Sometimes It's the Best Choice Many women hesitate to leave abusive or destructive marriages due to religious or cultural conditioning. Rhonda and Leslie discuss why staying informed about your options is not promoting divorce but rather promoting wisdom and safety. Building a Strong Financial Foundation Starts with Awareness Whether you're contemplating divorce or just wanting to be more financially literate, knowing where your money is and how it works is crucial. Rhonda shares her Bridge Method, helping women breathe, build a financial team, and gather critical financial documents before making any decisions. Common Financial Fears and How to Overcome Them Fear of being destitute, of never being able to own a home, or of not being able to provide for children keeps many women feeling stuck. Rhonda walks us through the knowledge-experience-confidence formula that helps women step into financial empowerment. Practical Steps to Uncover Financial Information Rhonda shares insider strategies, including checking credit reports, IRS transcripts, and even using USPS informed delivery, to help women piece together their financial picture—even when their spouse has kept them in the dark. You Don't Have to Do This Alone Having a trusted support system is key. If you don't know where to start, find a financial expert, a supportive friend, or even a private investigator if necessary. Rhonda's resources make it easier to take those first steps toward financial security. Resources & Next Steps Listen to Rhonda's podcast Disrupting Divorce Conversations for Women Download Rhonda's free resource: 6 Ways to Get a Fair Divorce Settlement – wfwcdivorce.com Explore Leslie's coaching programs and community for faith-based support – leslievernick.com Final Encouragement If you're feeling overwhelmed, remember this: You don't have to figure it all out today. Just take one small step toward educating yourself and preparing for your future. God will guide your path, one decision at a time. You are not alone, and you are stronger than you think.

Choosing to be an entrepreneur while navigating the complexities of motherhood requires an honest conversation. Let's not sugarcoat it – it can be challenging, and the guilt accompanying it can be overwhelming. Kristen welcomes Jennifer Allwood for an open and candid conversation exploring the challenges entrepreneurial women and moms face, emphasizing the importance of not letting guilt become a hindrance.    In the pursuit of business, mothers might find themselves wrestling with guilt, but the resounding message is clear: Fear is not the boss of you.   Let's look at a few highlights: Kristen and Jennifer touched upon a common struggle among women – the reluctance to give themselves permission to go all the way. It's a battle that's less about permission and more about confronting the fear that often lurks at the surface.  Many women may inadvertently use their roles as mothers as excuses, feeling guilty about pursuing their entrepreneurial aspirations. The key takeaway is clear: It's impossible to do it all at once, and that's perfectly okay.  Before being someone's mom, you were someone. Jennifer encouraged mothers to rediscover and embrace the identity that existed before the journey of motherhood began. The concept of "Entrepreneur Math" comes into play – the strategic art of delegation and prioritization. It's time to question why certain aspects are undervalued and consciously prioritize what truly matters. A common obstacle women face in their entrepreneurial journey is the fear of success. This fear can manifest as self-sabotage and excuses, hindering us from reaching our full potential.   Motherhood and business don't have to compete – they can coexist, and by embracing both aspects with intentionality, we can create a life that aligns with our values and aspirations. The entrepreneurship journey intertwined with money, marriage, and motherhood is a multifaceted adventure. It's about breaking the chains of fear, guilt, and self-sabotage. It's about giving ourselves permission to be amazing at both, understanding that something will always have to give, and that's perfectly okay.   Learn more about Jennifer Allwood: https://jenniferallwood.com/   Elevate your holiday sales with our Monetize & Maximize Holiday Sales Guide, your ultimate resource for proven, organic marketing success. The Bachelor franchise used to promise contestants the possibility of two things: true, happily-ever-after love… and a lucrative spotlight. Ben Higgins knows this, probably better than anyone. Many card-carrying members of Bachelor Nation would argue that Ben represents the peak of the franchise, but for Ben, that was just the beginning. Nicole talks to Ben about his business successes and failures, and the sometimes sticky topic of money in relationships. Ben shares how he and his wife Jess tackle their finances, how they navigated the uncomfortable topic of estate planning, and whether a Ben junior is on the horizon.
