Just a few hours after winning Gravel Nationals, Bradyn Lange sat down with Payson at the house they were sharing in the lead-up to the race for a wide-ranging conversation about the event and all the things that had to fall into place to get him there. Bradyn has always identified more as a mountain biker than a gravel racer, but after struggling to find sponsors and snagging a rogue 4th place at Big Sugar in 2021, he managed to secure a sponsorship from Pinarello and a place in the 2022 Grand Prix. That season, he lived out of his van and worked multiple part-time jobs, and still managed to rack up some stand-out results, including the win at Chequamegon. In this conversation, Bradyn tells Payson about this phase of his life, as well as his unlikely win at Nationals, in which he crashed, got blocked by junior riders, broke his cleat, and missed the breakaway, all before launching to the front and winning solo. Friendship with a lawyer from Bismarck led to famed actor Jessica Lange receiving an Oscar nomination in 1985. While she did not win, Lange went on to testify before Congress about the plight of farmers. How did a Bismarck lawyer inspire such a chain of events? Kenny and I discussed the direct connection between poor leadership and rising mental health claims, which have surged by 72% over the last two years. The culprit? Often, it's a lack of training and support for people managers. We unpacked the real-world impact of poor management and how it contributes to disengagement, burnout, and leave-of-absence claims. The fix? Equip leaders early. Invest in training. Create human-centered workplaces. Frameworks Aren't One-Size-Fits-All Kenny shared his perspective on adapting leadership frameworks to fit the unique DNA of each organization. Drawing a culinary analogy, he explained that understanding your ingredients—your people, culture, and constraints—is essential before applying a recipe. We agreed: effective leadership requires flexibility, not rigidity. Kenny cautioned against “framework addiction,” a trap where leaders over-rely on cookie-cutter solutions, and instead promoted a problem-first mindset that focuses on results, not just tools. Lead to Scale: A Blueprint for Growth Kenny walked us through his Lead to Scale leadership model—a framework that begins with leading oneself, expands to developing teams, and culminates in scaling entire organizations. At its core are three pillars: awareness, alignment, and accountability. He shared how this model helped a client grow revenue and expand geographically, proving that these principles transcend industries and stages of growth. Notably, Kenny highlighted the 10-year leadership development gap, where many managers are promoted long before receiving any formal leadership training. Leadership Is a Journey, Not a Title We closed our conversation reflecting on the long game of leadership: growth, mentorship, and the need for constant self-awareness. We acknowledged the sobering truth that many businesses fail not because of a lack of vision, but because of poor planning and an underdeveloped leadership infrastructure. Welcome back to another episode of Fratello On Air. We've been on hiatus for the last month during the summer, but we're back in action! Regarding television, we discuss Mobland, Only Murders In The Building, Dexter: Resurrection, and The Sopranos. Then, Balazs mentions the recent sale of a Michael Jordan / Kobe Bryant basketball card that set a record at $12.9 million! For the Handgelenkskontrolle, Balazs is wearing the new Albishorn 1958 Marinagraph Paraíba Racing. Stay tuned for an upcoming hands-on review. Mike is wearing his Seiko SLA019, a 2018 release that marked the first ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal for the beloved Marinemaster 300.Watches and carsWe kick off our main topic on recent travels that included cars and watches with a recap of Geneva Watch Days. Sadly, Balazs didn't attend, but the releases were well-covered. Overall, the mood was somber because of the US tariff scenario. Brands were questioning the need and the expense related to two shows. The reveals were positive, especially from the smaller brands, but it was a quieter show overall despite more brands in attendance. Next, we discuss the 2025 Balkan Rally, which Balazs attended. The event kicked off in Budapest and ended five days later in Dubrovnik. Classic cars and watches were all part of the festivities. Finally, we head back to London, where Mike attended the Concours of Elegance hosted by A. Lange & Söhne. Once again, several of the attendees wore intriguing watches, but the cars were incredible. Of note was a lovely Singer Porsche. It was the first time Mike saw one in person, which followed his first visit to the Singer Reimagined headquarters in Geneva just two days earlier.We hope you enjoyed our return to the airwaves, and we look forward to coming back regularly.
