Episode Summary In this inspiring episode, I sit down with one of our powerhouse Published and Paid clients, Gwendolyn “Cody” Davis—a speaker, coach, and multi-time author who proves that it's never too late to walk boldly in your purpose. Miss Gwendolyn joined one of my programs after retiring from her federal government career, and since then she's written a powerful thought leadership book (Finishing Strong), launched a coaching program, published a workbook, and guided others through writing their own books. What moved me most about this conversation is how she reminds us that dreams don't have an expiration date. She talks openly about overcoming the fear of pricing, building confidence with each cohort of coaching clients, and leaning into her God-given calling—even after 50. If you've ever felt like time has passed you by, this episode will remind you that now is the perfect time to start.

On this episode of The Jon Gordon Podcast, I sit down with Glenn Ellison, a man whose life story could fill a movie script. From growing up in poverty with six siblings and an alcoholic father, to channeling his pain and anger into football and earning a full scholarship to the University of Arkansas, Glenn's early journey is as inspiring as it is raw. He shares how an illegal hit and an unexpected twist in NCAA eligibility rules cut short his college career, but his determination led him to play for the Marine Corps team and ultimately earn a spot in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders under legendary coach John Madden. But Glenn's story doesn't stop on the football field. After his sports career, he faced more adversity and found purpose in helping others. For the past 24 years, Glenn has dedicated his life to restoring peace in families through The Parent Help Center, working with parents and at-risk youth to turn chaos into hope and healing. He opens up about how faith, hard lessons, and relentless work ethic shaped his mission to make an enduring impact. This is a candid, powerful conversation about resilience, redemption, and the transformative power of believing in others, and yourself, even when the odds are stacked against you. Glenn's journey reminds us that no matter where you start, it's never too late to change the game and make a difference.  Learn more about Glenn and his mission at theparenthelpcenter.com, and get ready to be inspired by a true comeback story.   About Glenn, Glenn Ellison is a former NFL player, United States Marine, and now a certified Jon Gordon Trainer helping leaders and families create positive change. His inspiring journey took him from high school football star to being kicked out of college, from $35-a-game semi-pro leagues to the Marine Corps football program—where he became a two-time MVP. Against 10,000 to 1 odds, Glenn walked on to the NFL, proving that grit, faith, and perseverance open impossible doors. Today, Glenn is the founder of a non-profit dedicated to building stronger families, the author of Tackling Life's Challenges, and the real-life inspiration behind the film Success Camp, which tells the story of struggling families finding hope. Are they lying to us...You often hear people say that driving change as an in-house service design professional often feels less like a sprint and more like a marathon, right? But let's be honest, that's not quite true.In reality, it's more like running an ultra-marathon (and some more). We all know that "tangible" progress in service design can sometimes feel slow and far removed.Often, the real challenge isn't about which tools, methods, or frameworks you use. It's about keeping your internal flame burning and maintaining momentum inside the organization, especially when things get tough. But here's the good news: some professionals have found ways to play the long game successfully. So, how do you sustain your energy, passion, and impact when the work feels like a long-distance race (without a clear path and unknown finish line)? That's what this new episode is all about. It's part of our new series where we dive into the actual, unpolished practice of in-house service design. For this conversation, I was joined by two experienced professionals, Linn Jansson and James Field. They are both deep in the daily realities of this work and truly get what the "in-house marathon" feels like.Linn and James share some honest insights – not just about their diverse journeys into service design, but specifically about how they navigate these long-term challenges and, crucially, how they keep their motivation high.In this episode, you'll discover where they find their 'fuel', including:The power of supportive teams and communities. The importance of recognizing those small (but mighty!) wins. How they've learned to see and appreciate the long-term shifts they are making, even when it's tough to notice day-to-day.So, if you're looking for some encouragement, practical perspectives on resilience, or simply the reassurance that you're not running this marathon alone, I think you'll get a lot from this episode. And on that note, I'm curious: What keeps you motivated when you're deep in the in-house design marathon? Hit reply and let me know.Enjoy the conversation and keep making a positive impact!Take care,~ Marc--- [ 1. Men, Holy Week is upon us, and the finish line is in sight. Whether Lent has been a triumph or a struggle, now is your chance to lock in. Easter's close, but we're not there yet.   St. Joseph lived hidden, guarding the God-man in silence while the world ignored him. His humility shone in poverty and trials, his faith unshaken by darkness. He's our model now. Here's your challenge: Simplify your life today. Too many prayers? Too much noise? Pick one thing—silence, Scripture, a single act of charity—and do it well, humbly, like Joseph. Maybe you've stumbled this Lent; doesn't matter. It's how you finish that counts. Lean into his example to make this Holy Week your strongest yet.  Men, Satan trembles at Joseph's quiet strength. Want to honor God and enter Easter's mystery? Simplify and focus. Products/References Mentioned:  Consecration to St. Joseph by Father Donald CallowayPowerful Quotes:  “Joseph sought God in simplicity. Joseph found God in detachment. Joseph enjoyed God's company in obscurity.”  “He guards a God-man and breathes not a word of it. He is the witness of so great a mystery and he tastes it in secret without divulging it abroad.”  “Not how you start, it's how you finish. Right, gentlemen? How can we simplify our lives? How can we finish strong?”Key Takeaway:Simplify today—choose one humble act, like sitting in silence, and do it with focus. Start now to mirror St. Joseph and end Lent strong.Send us a text Support the showPlease prayerfully consider supporting the podcast on our Buy Me A Coffee page. to help grow the show to reach as many men as possible!
