this week Stacey tells us about the death of Suchir Balaji, a 26-year-old OpenAI whistleblower found dead by suicide in his San Francisco apartment in November 2024 after publicly condemning the company's data practices, a ruling contested by his family who remain convinced foul play was involved.Sources:https://suchir.net/fair_use.htmlhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suchir_Balajihttps://www.ndtv.com/world-news/suchir-balajis-mother-new-charge-as-sam-altman-calls-openai-whistleblowers-death-suicide-9278849https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/openai-whistleblower-autopsy-report-released-20168839.phphttps://www.businessinsider.com/openai-whistleblower-suchir-balaji-autopsy-suicide-registered-gun-2025-2https://sfstandard.com/2025/09/30/suchir-balaji-openai-whistleblower-parents-lawsuithttps://blackheritageradio.com/whistleblower-suchir-balaji-parents-claim-new-toxicology-report-proof-was-shot-dead/https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/us/openai-whistleblower-suchir-balajis-parents-claim-he-was-shot-twice-in-the-head-first-autopsy-missed-second-wound/articleshow/120100833.cmshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSUntLOBfyY&t=1526sSupport the show

Is this one of the best or worst method books for acoustic fingerstyle guitar? You can learn to play music by simultaneously using a variety of resources including teachers, online resources, and books. Rainer's Acoustic Blues Guitar Picking School, written by Rainer Brunn, is a method book for learning to play solo fingerstyle blues guitar. The material is generally appropriate for late beginner to intermediate players who want to learn this style. The material progresses logically from an easy introduction to Travis style/alternating basslines and quickly ramps up to late beginner difficulty. Text is kept to a minimum, so readers should spend some time analyzing the playing examples. The entire book is fairly short and concise at 53 pages. The majority of Rainer's Acoustic Blues Guitar Picking School focuses on playing the blues using an alternating bassline, although some examples feature a monotonic bassline. Each chapter generally features a concise explanation of one or two new concepts (i.e. inner and outer right-hand positions, the “long A” chord shape, hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, etc.), provides a few playing examples to demonstrate, and finally provides a full 12 or 16 bar blues chorus utilizing the new concepts. My overall impression from going through this book is that it contains valuable information, but it is not as comprehensive as some other books. You will gain important technical/physical skills to play fingerstyle blues, but there isn't much explanation on how to approach a new blues tune, music theory to help you choose the proper notes while improvising, etc. Still, some people might prefer the concise text. My advice would be to work through this book with a teacher or to combine this with another more comprehensive method book. This book might make a great 2nd or 3rd book in your fingerstyle blues collection. I got a great workout going through the book, I have immediately begun implementing some of the new ideas and chord shapes into my own playing, and I will be using some of the examples with my students. Chapter by chapter breakdown: Ch. 1: Intro to Travis style/ alt bass in blues keys of E, A, and C. Intro to syncopation very soon. If you are new to Travis style, then this will be difficult. If you have some experience with Travis style, then this will quickly get you sounding bluesy. Ch. 2: Inner and outer RH positions – shifting thumb to pick 4th and 3rd strings while i and m fingers shift to 2nd and 1st strings. Accompaniment behind a blues tune in D. Ch. 3: “Long A chord” – use pinky to reach 5th fret A note on 1st string. Introduction of double alternating bass. Ch. 4: Hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides. Intro to monotonic bass. Intro to triplets. Keys of E, G, and D with alt bass. Intermediate territory. Ch. 5: Shuffle rhythm. Advanced chord shapes (up the neck) for keys of E, A, D. This is getting significantly more difficult – too difficult for beginners, in my opinion. Ch. 6: Thumb over the top. Rag in C – really nice 16-bar tune. Ch. 7: Trickier hammer-ons, pull-offs, and slides over Travis bassline. Keys of E and A. Ch. 8: Using alternating m and i picking hand fingers. Lots of cool chromatic melodies. Ch. 9: Accompaniment. Variations to keep you from playing the same accompaniment pattern over and over. Ch. 10: “Moveable modules” – chordal or interval ideas that can be moved around to fit over different chords/in different keys. Ch. 11: Turnarounds – some good introductory turnarounds to learn and start implementing into your blues playing. Ch. 12: Two blues tunes with discussions/analysis. Videos available online – solid performances of examples that are helpful to view. The book doesn't use the modern percussive techniques used by modern players like Michael Hedges, Don Ross, Andy McKee, Mike Dawes, etc. No thumb slaps, guitar body percussion, or tapping.

Bad weekend for Kings fans and Niner fans as there was a series of injuries that happened.First it was announced Sunday morning that Keegan had torn the UCL on his left thumb and needs surgery which would sideline him for 4-6 weeks. With the Kings lack of depth at the wing position, there will be a gargantuan void at that position for the Kings to start the season. And if the Keegan news wasn't already a punch in the face, if you were a Niner fan you kicked right in knads when in the first quarter Fred Warner dislocated his ankle and will be out for the season. The injuries continue to pile up as the Niners just can't catch a break.Owen and Fong then try to lighten the mood with what they like about WWE is doing as of late and the Seth Rollins injury because everyone in every sport is just getting injured at this point.Use code SKT15 on checkout to get 15% off from HYVDesigns on Etsy during checkout or use this link: https://www.etsy.com/shop/hyvdesigns/?etsrc=sdt&coupon=SKT15Intro Music by Blue Dot Sessions. https://www.sessions.blueIf you want to email us: kingtherapypod@gmail.com

KT even drops a philosophical gem: “It is kind of crazy that just with our mental powers we can move our digits. Investing can feel overwhelming with all the strategies, opinions, and noise out there. That's why in this episode, I break down eight simple, time-tested rules of thumb that will help you cut through the confusion and make smarter decisions with your money. These aren't rigid formulas—they're practical guidelines to keep you on track whether you're just getting started or fine-tuning your portfolio. From understanding how long it takes your money to double, to calculating your “freedom number,” to knowing whether to prioritize retirement or college savings, these rules will help you create clarity and confidence in your financial journey. Episode Timeline & Highlights [0:00] – Introduction [0:54] – Rule #1: The Rule of 72—how long it takes for your money to double [2:00] – Rule #2: Why you'll only need about 70% of your income in retirement [2:46] – Rule #3: How to calculate your “freedom number” with the 4% rule [3:11] – Rule #4: Safe withdrawal rates in retirement (why I lean conservative) [3:52] – Rule #5: Net worth benchmarks by age and income [4:33] – Rule #6: Asset allocation by age—and why risk tolerance matters more [5:52] – Rule #7: Always take the 401(k) match—it's free money [6:32] – Rule #8: Child's education vs. retirement (and why retirement comes first) Key Takeaways Money Compounds Faster Than You Think – Use the Rule of 72 to visualize long-term growth. Retirement Needs Less Than You Earn Now – Strategic withdrawals and fewer expenses change the math. Put Yourself First – You can borrow for college, but you can't borrow for retirement. Quotables “You can get scholarships for school—but you can't get scholarships for retirement.” “Aim to have your investments double every ten years at a bare minimum.” “Please don't listen to anyone who says you can pull 12% from your portfolio. “When you're a kid, you have so little control over things. To be the big entity controlling the smaller entity, whether it's dolls or [toy] soldiers or whatever it is, they do what you tell them to do. They become the story you are making.” — Brian SelznickWe all want to feel in control, mold our lives and experiences, and shape the world into something we can hold. But control is slippery; one moment, it can steady us, the next, it slips away. Brian Selznick—#1 New York Times bestselling author, illustrator, and Caldecott Medal winner—has spent his career playing with this tension. From "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" to "Wonderstruck" and, most recently, "Run Away With Me," Brian believes that it's his job as the author to control the reader's experience, forcing page turns and placing illustrations in a particular order, all while acknowledging that control is ceded to the reader once a book is in their hands. In this episode, Under My Thumb: Brian Selznick on Control, Brian reflects on his lifelong pull toward control in life and art—what drives it, how it shapes his work, and when the need to let go becomes inevitable. He shares his fascination with all things miniature and opens up with unflinching honesty about his complicated relationship with his father, spanning life and loss. He also reveals a formative influence you might not expect, and a most extraordinary afternoon with Ray Bradbury.Settle in for a fascinating, moving episode with one of the great creators of our time.***For his reading challenge, Brian has curated two lists: one exploring queerness in literature over time and the other celebrating the power of the page turn. Reviews ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - from inappropriately dressed rape victim - Best podcast ever, absolutely flawless. There is nothing they could do to make it any more perfect. 4/5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - from Zack - This is the best gun podcast around. Not only do they give great info about guns and new products but also amazing book recommendations. If you are new you should go back and listen to the old episodes and can see how the cast has grown and changed. Except Aaron he is still a cunt who can barely keep a job for more than a year or two. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - from Big Hoss - I've been listening since the beginning. I love the cast. At least most of them. They bring a diverse amount of opinions and knowledge. Even Aaron. However, Savage can be just annoying. When he speaks, I think of Brick from Anchor Man yelling “LOUD NOISES!!!” So I have a proposition for you. You get rid of “The Thumb” and I'll get rid of my thumb. (Non dominant hand of course). In the next episode of our annual What the Hell's summer book series, we are time traveling around the world with experimental archeologist, Sam Kean, who shares with us his latest science narrative novel, Dinner with King Tut: How Rogue Archaeologists Are Re-creating the Sights, Sounds, Smells, and Tastes of Lost Civilizations (Little Brown and Company, 2025). Sam took us on an adventure of the senses, back through the history of mankind and across the globe, from the Egyptian pyramids to the temples of Mexico. “Above all,” he writes, “I hope this book can reveal what unites us today with people from long ago, and help us understand that they were just people, no different than us.” WTH can we learn from living like those in the past? And WTH do caterpillars taste like? Sam Kean is the New York Times-bestselling author of seven books that combine history and science. His stories have appeared in The Best American Science and Nature Writing, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and Slate, among other places, and his work has been featured on NPR. His books The Disappearing Spoon and The Violinist's Thumb were national bestsellers, and both were named an Amazon “Top 5” science books of the year.
