In today's episode, I chat with Ann Sieg, the founder and CEO of E-Commerce Business School. Ann is a veteran in the digital marketing space and she shares with me her journey including both the successes and the knocks she's taken along the way. There were lots of great insights that came out of our chat, but one that stood out; don't put all your eggs in one basket! It's an old saying, but so true where it comes to business, marketing and so much more. Ann was hit hard by the Google algorithm change. Now she talks and trains others how to create successful e-commerce businesses using amazon and automation. The arbitrage business has been around forever...buying something cheaper and selling it on for more. In this regard, Amazon is like a big car boot sale. It's a great way to start making money and a good entry point into e-commerce. But remember if Amazon ever decided to change the way they operate, make sure you don't get caught with your pants down! Building an e-commerce brand will mitigate this risk, enables you to build an asset and keeps you in full control. It was on my mind the other day about how so much content and attention comes out of America. And how hard it is to break through in a crowded and noisy digital age. I've got some of my own ideas about why this happens, but I would love to hear you thoughts too!
Business and social media is a challenge for many businesses of all sizes. Its an interesting challenge to break through both perceptions of the opportunity but also the reality. I think there is a misconception with business and social media on many levels. The first is the ease and speed that things can happen. The second is that a lot of businesses do not see the full value in social media marketing. But in 2018 more than ever now is the time to embrace the opportunity that social media marketing in 2018 has. But one piece of advice I could give any small business owner, is to get stuck in and try. Don't be afraid to make a mistake, or worry about not being good enough. Just do it.
There was a time I was worried, probably like you, about failing. I had a fear and still do, to an extent, of failure. However what I have learnt is that its okay to fear failure. Just don't be afraid to fail. There is a critical difference! Don't be afraid to fail, because the moment you except that you will fail at some point, is the moment you free yourself to try! You will be prepared to try things, to push yourself and go for it!. If you start to fail, you also start to learn and grow. Every-time you fail and land flat on your face, when you get up, guess what? You've physically moved forward. Try it...literally stand still, fall flat on your face, then get up. You physically can't help but move forward. So use this as a physical metaphor. Push your self to those places that you will probably fail. Push yourself to those uncomfortable places. By doing so, you will get better and improve. Failure is the journey to success!

Today I had a catch up with Callum Birch to see how he is getting on with his startup marketing agency.
Being in business has many different challenges and I love to have business chats to help others. That might be a private one on one business chat where we bounce business ideas and have a really inspirational chat. Or doing a business podcast chat where I learn about someone else's business, story and journey. But there was a time I was worried, probably like you, about giving away too much! I didn't want to give away my game plan. The funny thing now, is that I realise it doesn't matter!
Its easy to just focus on the end goal and start imagining what that will look like. Then of curse trying to figure out the quickest way to get there. My fear for a lot of you, is that you are setting yourself up for failure. Don't get me wrong, its important to look for quick wins sometimes, but not at the expense of taking short cuts and not planning properly. I see a lot of people in business, young entrepreneurs and people starting out focusing on the wrong things; Whats the best strategy, whats the best yield, whats the best investment, whats the best business opportunity, whats the best hack! Whereas what you should be focused on is building a business you love and are passionate about and focusing not on the quick wins, but on doing things properly.
Stop Caring About What Other People Think Of You - its hard I get it! But I hope this video helps give you some perspective allows you to be true to yourself so you can focus on what you believe in. As a regular guy, a business man, a salesman, a trainee entrepreneur (I'll do a blog on what this means to me, so keep an eye out for this as I think it will really help you out), it is vital not to allow negativity in all forms to affect you. Its easier said than done of course.
Be honest with your prospects. As an entrepreneur in the UK and a UK businessman I am seeing so many sales people being cowards and jumping to the tune of the prospects. Stop! Start to control the process and be brave. It is absolutely critical that you man up, start to take control the sales process and let your prospects know what the rules of your game are. Otherwise you will only create a circle of chaos and chasing and you'l be jumping to their tune! But above all be, nice, honest and stop being a 'YES Man'! Or women! If what the prospect is asking is wrong, then tell them. Don't let the fear of loss stop you taking control. And when you do...amazing things start to happen! Business and social media is not something that sits comfortably with a lot of businesses. I should know I was exactly the same last year, then everything changed! As a UK entrepreneur I was going to say small businesses really struggle with grasping the power and opportunity that social media provides. But in all honesty big businesses in the UK also struggle and are not doing social media marketing particularly well. Just ask yourself, how well do companies and businesses interacting with you on social media? Most not very well. But if I was going to give some business advice to UK companies, I would be saying; its now more critical than ever to really engage your audience, but equally it is a huge opportunity for them to build a loyal tribe.
