A quarter of Gen Z and Millennial consumers now trust AI recommendations more than human ones, marking the arrival of retail's first post-human interface. Sharon Gee, VP of Product at Commerce, joins us to explore the paradox of digital intimacy: why consumers will bare their souls to ChatGPT about shopping needs yet abandon carts when brands ask them to create accounts, how LLMs are becoming intimate commerce companions, and what this means for the collapse of traditional commerce funnels and brand discovery in an AI-mediated world. The New Game Is Intelligibility Key takeaways:27% of millennials trust AI recommendations more than humans, yet abandon carts when forced to create accounts: the trust paradox.Merchants must shift from channel management to model management: optimizing for how AI interprets your brand, not controlling distribution.Answer engine optimization isn't gaming algorithms. It's ensuring your brand shows up with authority when AI agents search on behalf of consumers.Three-party commerce is here: consumer, brand, and AI intermediary. The customer is the channel, and data is the new storefront.[00:01:42] "Our customers are having to shift their mindset from channel management to model management... The old game was distribution. The new game is intelligibility. And brands that win are gonna be the ones that understand the model and understand how they can adapt their message to the new modes of interacting with consumers." – Lindsay Trinkle[00:41:02] "Customers are the channel and the data is the storefront. And so what we need to be able to do is make sure that we understand at each interaction point when you show up with your brand. Coach's SVP of Global Visual Experience Giovanni Zaccariello reveals how the brand transformed from heritage accessory house to Gen Z cultural force by treating retail as community infrastructure. From hospitality-infused Coach Play stores to strategically sustainable holiday displays, the conversation explores how physical experience became Coach's competitive advantage in an increasingly digital marketplace. Why Shop When You Can Play?Key takeaways:Gen Z seeks human connection and community, not just product transactionsCoach studied consumers in their homes to understand life, not just buying behaviorsExperience per square foot matters as much as sales per square footUsing the same holiday tree for five years reduced waste while building brand consistencyPhysical and digital spaces should converge, not replicate each other"Putting bags on shelves was no longer an option because everybody during the pandemic, including my mom who is 89, can buy online. They're coming to the stores and they want more." - Giovanni Zaccariello [00:06:37]"The next few years are going to be years of what I call experience maximalism where literally new things are going to be mundane because consumers are so much more connected now on social, and they see what's going on." - Giovanni Zaccariello [00:44:50]"It's about the consumer talking to us instead of Coach talking to the consumer. It's a much deeper dialogue." - Giovanni Zaccariello [00:45:46]"When things don't work, we don't just move on. We've created this honest feedback loop where we learn from things. If we don't learn, what's the point of testing and learning?" - Giovanni Zaccariello [00:41:17]Associated Links:Explore Coach Play conceptsCoach coffee shopsCheck out Future Commerce on YouTubeCheck out Future Commerce Plus for exclusive content and save on merch and printSubscribe to Insiders and The Senses to read more about what we are witnessing in the commerce worldListen to our other episodes of Future CommerceHave any questions or comments about the show? December is here. This is the time of year when a lot of people are talking about what's next. Before you rush into planning mode, this episode is your opportunity to pause and get honest about what needs to be left behind. As a Black entrepreneur, you know that business comes with more than strategy and systems. Sometimes, it's the mindset that does the most damage. Maybe you told yourself you weren't ready. Maybe you hid your brilliance because you didn't want to be seen. Maybe you kept trying to do everything alone because that's what you thought it took. You do not have to carry that into another season. In this episode, Monique T. Marshall helps you identify the quiet beliefs that shaped your business this year. She walks you through how to let them go and how to choose a new mindset that actually supports where you're headed next. DURING THIS EPISODE YOU'LL LEARN: How to recognize the beliefs that kept you stuck in survival mode What shifting your mindset looks like in daily decisions How your thoughts impacted your offers, marketing, and leadership Why clarity matters more than hype when it comes to growth Ways to reinforce a new belief system that supports your next season Thank you so much for listening! She made helmets so beautiful that 25% of Thousand customers are wearing helmets for the first time ever. Thousand now offers helmet and bike accessories in 20+ countries with financial backing from REI and the Clif Bar Family Office. Gloria talks all things customer loyalty, business branding, and nailing your product roadmap for maximum impact. Do you aim to create real change in your community, country or the world? Are you driven to make the kind of impact that leaves a legacy - something that matters for future generations? If you've ever found yourself thinking, “this has GOT to change, and I'm going to do it!”, then this episode is for you. I'm sharing the three unmistakable signs that you're meant for thought leadership, and the steps to help you step into those shoes much sooner than you imagined. Most women - especially coaches and experts -,tend to underestimate themselves. We convince ourselves it's just a “marketing” issue that keeps you feeling invisible, or believe it's an execution problem … and try to post more content. In reality, the problem often lies with how far you're playing below your true potential. What if your ideas are simply too big for the box you've put yourself in? What if your positioning is lacking the authority you deserve? In this episode, I'll help you spot the signs you're ready to lead and guide you to create the clarity you need to finally take your place as a thought leader. Ready to stop hiding in plain sight and claim your space? Let's get into it! You'll hear me cover: Why the ideas you're passionate about might feel “too big” for your current audience - and what that tension is really telling you. What's happening when your clients rave about you behind closed doors, but the wider market just hasn't caught on yet. How boredom with what everyone else is sharing is actually a sign your brain is craving a higher level of conversation and challenge. Why playing it safe with a vague or general niche keeps you stuck - and how you can start shifting into a space that's truly yours. What first step to take to move from hidden expert into your own “thought leader” zone - and how you can claim your advantage, starting today. Curious if this is what's been holding you back? Listen in to find out - the episode just might be the nudge you need to finally stand out and lead with confidence! =================================== The NICHE Buster 7 Day Program For coaches, creatives, consultants who want to rise above the crowd with unique expert positioning! https://www.jessicaosborn.com/nichechallenge ................................................. Want to teach your kids confidence, money skills, and resilience — all at once? Entrepreneurship isn't just for adults. It's how kids learn life skills. In this episode of The Business Ownrship Podcast, I interviewed Mike Mammel. Mike is here to talk about Mini Titans.Mini Titans is a character-building program that uses entrepreneurship as a powerful tool to instill essential life skills in children. Why entrepreneurship?Resilience Through Challenge:Entrepreneurship is inherently challenging, giving kids the opportunity to experience setbacks and learn how to bounce back stronger, smarter, and more capable. This builds a foundation for self-reflection, emotional strength, and lifelong personal growth.A Path to Abundance:A life of abundance begins with understanding oneself. Entrepreneurship pushes individuals — even young ones — to adapt, persevere, and rise to challenges. These traits become the building blocks of a fulfilling, confident, and prosperous life. How Mini Titans BeganThe idea for Mini Titans began in the spring of 2022. After losing the tourism business he had built over seven years, Mike found himself facing uncertainty, shaken confidence, and a painful sense of failure. Unsure of his next steps, he struggled to rebuild his sense of purpose — until a simple question from his young children changed everything.Sitting at the kitchen table with his wife and kids, his six-year-old son and four-year-old daughter asked, “Dad, how do you make money?”He didn't want to give them a single answer like, “You work for someone.” He wanted them to understand both paths — working for others and starting something of their own. But explaining business concepts to young kids felt impossible. So instead of explaining, he decided to show them.Together, they planned their first business: a lemonade stand. But not just any lemonade stand — a hands-on experience in work ethic and problem-solving. They hand-pressed lemons and oranges, experimented with recipes, adjusted their plan, and prepared like a real business team. The kids negotiated the selling location in a high-traffic area and even negotiated fruit prices to lower costs. On sale day, the weather was cold and rainy — their only permitted day to sell — forcing them to pivot. After speaking with the store manager, they secured permission to set up inside instead. From there, the kids greeted every customer with bright energy:“Hello! How is your day?”They practiced their pitch so they could either add joy to someone's great day or help brighten a challenging one with a cup of lemonade. After five hours, the kids earned over $300.From those earnings, they followed the three principles that continue to guide Mini Titans today:Spend a little for immediate rewardSave a portion for their future educationDonate a portion to give backThe real success came afterward — when the kids begged to do it again every summer. That enthusiasm, curiosity, and growth became the foundation of the Mini Titans program, now dedicated to helping children build character, confidence, and resilience through entrepreneurship.Tune in now and learn how to help your kids become confident, capable problem-solvers.Check this out!Show Links:Contact Mike via email at: info@minititans.caMini Titans Website: https://www.minititans.ca/Mike Mammel on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mike-mammel-0968926a/Book a call with Michelle: https://go.appointmentcore.com/book/IcFD4cGJoin our Facebook group for business owners to get help or help other business owners! The Business Ownership Group - Secrets to Scaling: https://www.facebook.com/groups/businessownershipsecretstoscalingLooking to scale your business? The traditional linear shopping journey has collapsed. Commerce now happens everywhere, and consumers are navigating this omnimodal reality with unprecedented fluidity.Phillip Jackson and Lindsay Trinkle sit down with Melissa Minkow, Global Director of Retail Strategy and Insights at CI&T, to unpack findings from her Retail Tech Reality Check research. Together, they dissect how different platforms serve distinct purposes in the buyer's journey, why "omnichannel" is more relevant than ever, and what happens when everything becomes shoppable but commerce itself becomes invisible. In this episode, we explore how the expanded digital ecosystem is fundamentally reprogramming how consumers engage with content, community, and commerce. With 74% of US consumers now using AI tools in their path to purchase, brands can no longer control the narrative—instead, they must embed themselves intentionally into customer-led conversations across multiple contexts.Commerce Is Invisible; Context Isn'tKey takeaways:Each social platform serves a distinct purpose: Facebook for purchasing, YouTube for discovery, Reddit for research. Context matters more than channel ubiquity. The invisible transaction wins: TikTok succeeds because it's entertainment-first. The less commerce feels like commerce, the more consumers buy.Attribution is broken: Traditional linear models can't capture circular, contextual journeys. Focus on conversion, repeat purchase, and brand awareness—the only metrics you can trust.Search remains unsolved: Basic functionality like filtering furniture by dimensions is still missing. Data quality and search methodology are foundational competitive advantages.Micro-influencers drive outsized impact: 45 passionate referrals matter more than 45,000 followers. The persona of the referrer (picky, experimental, passionate) outweighs reach.AI will reshape holiday 2025: Gifting anxiety makes AI particularly valuable. Consumers use it to avoid looking stupid and navigate uncertain return processes.In-Show Mentions:Melissa Minkow - Global Director of Retail Strategy and Insights, CI&TCI&T Retail Tech Reality Check ResearchNew Modes ResearchAssociated Links:Check out Future Commerce on YouTubeCheck out Future Commerce+ for exclusive content and save on merch and printSubscribe to Insiders and The Senses to read more about what we are witnessing in the commerce worldListen to our other episodes of Future CommerceHave any questions or comments about the show? Today's episode is one of the most important conversations we've had on My DPC Story. As of July 4th, we are standing at a true inflection point for Direct Primary Care—and for every physician, employer, broker, advocate and patient who believes primary care should be personal, accessible, and free from insurance middlemen. In this special session, I'm joined by Jay Keese, Executive Director of the Direct Primary Care Coalition, who has spent more than a decade at the front lines in Washington, DC. Together, we break down what HR 1—the major tax bill signed into law this year—actually means for DPC. This includes:The historic win: HSAs are now fully compatible with Direct Primary Care for the first time ever. What patients can do starting January 1: Use tax-free HSA dollars to pay for DPC memberships without losing HSA eligibility. How this changes the landscape: New opportunities with employers, brokers, high-deductible plans, and even ACA bronze/catastrophic plans. What stays the same, what's evolving, and what rulemaking from the IRS will finalize. What's coming next: How DPC can scale responsibly and sustainably as demand accelerates. If you've ever wondered how policy actually becomes reality—or what the future of DPC looks like on a national scale—you'll want to listen closely. One afternoon in February 2007, a man walked across an icy parking lot to the front door of a police station in Merrillville, Indiana. Next to him was an officer, whose job it was to make sure the man actually went inside the station. The man was very nervous – there was a warrant out for his arrest on a drug charge, and he'd been brought here to get questioned and then processed. But he hoped he'd get to leave again right away, because he had information about a four-year-old murder case, and he intended on trading that information for his freedom. And he was sure this would work, since what he knew wasn't just a tip – it was a bombshell. Still, his stomach was in knots as he took a deep breath and opened the station door.
