Today's episode of the Build Your Brave podcast is one of the most vulnerable yet. After an unexpected season of deep personal loss, Megan opens up about walking through grief while still showing up as a mom, a leader, and hope dealer. She shares how Isaiah 43 has anchored her heart and why putting on a garment of praise is a deliberate choice, not a feeling. If you've ever wondered where God is in your pain, how to hold onto His promises when life looks nothing like you expected, or whether it's possible to keep believing when your faith is tested, this episode is for you.

Jesus makes it blatantly clear in John 15 that HE alone is the VINE…and we are the branches. That's not an insult, but rather the embodiment of our God-given purpose in life! When “branches” try to pretend like they're “the vine,” life gets complicated, confusing and chaotic! Branches have 2 functions: Remain in the Vine & Produce Fruit. Life in the Vine - Week 5October 5, 2025Teacher: Pastor Dave BrownPrayerThis week, Pastor Dave Brown continues our Life in the Vine series with a message titled “Prayer,” from John 15:7–8.Jesus says: “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” (John 15:7–8 NIV)PrayerPrayer is about love, and that means it cannot be sustained on fluttery feelings, good intentions, and spontaneous moments alone. It needs a container…a set of practices or rituals within which that love can grow, mature, and blossom. — Tyler Staton Jesus prayed spontaneously and routinely, alone and with others, pouring out his emotions in his own words and guided by the psalms at fixed hours in the temple. Jesus prayed like a wild, unruly monk. — Tyler StatonPrayers about presence… One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. —Psalms 27:1“Begin where you are.” — C.S. Lewis In reality, the church has led the way in the art of enjoyment and pleasure. New Testament scholar Ben Witherington points out that it was the church, not Starbucks, that created coffee culture. Coffee was first invented by Ethiopian monks—the term cappuccino refers to the shade of brown used for the habits of Capuchin monks of Italy. Coffee is born of extravagance, an extravagant God who formed extravagant people, who formed a craft out of the pleasures of roasted beans and frothed milk. — Tish Harrison WarrenPrayers about fruit… A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord— and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. —Isaiah 11:1-4But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. — Galatians 5:22-23Most of the “fruit of the Spirit” are explicitly outward facing: love, obviously, then greatheartedness, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness. Not only do these require other people if they are to be practiced, they are specifically looking out into the wider world and community…They orient the person towards others. — N.T. WrightPrayers for Redeemer ChurchUnity, Peace, and Wisdom
Jesus referred to his people as the branches of a vine. Only when those branches remain in the vine will it remain strong. The early church, like a vine, grew fast and became messy. Vines need a support structure if they are to grow well and produce much fruit. So too, it was with the early church. In the first few verses of Acts 6 we see the beginning of that structure through the teaching of the Apostles and the appointing of deacons to care for the needs of the poor.Time:MorningMinister:Rev. Seasons of anxiety and depression can leave us feeling weak, broken, and even distant from God. Yet, as our daily prayer and devotional from Emily Rose Massey reminds us, these struggles do not define our faith or separate us from God’s presence. In fact, suffering can be the very place where our roots in Christ grow deeper. Jesus calls us to abide in Him as the true Vine. Just as branches cannot bear fruit without staying connected to the vine, neither can we thrive apart from Him. Prayer and Scripture become lifelines—keeping us grounded in His peace, truth, and strength when the world feels overwhelming. Like trees in winter whose roots grow deeper underground, our times of hardship can press us closer to the heart of God. Instead of yielding to despair or turning to substitutes for comfort, we can remain connected to Christ, the only source of lasting life and peace. In Him, we find the strength to endure, the hope to carry on, and the joy of knowing we are never alone. Today's Bible Reading: "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” – John 15:4-5, ESV Key Takeaways Abiding in Christ is essential—apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5). Seasons of suffering can deepen our spiritual roots and strengthen our faith. Prayer and Scripture are vital lifelines that keep us connected to Jesus. The enemy seeks to isolate us, but Christ sustains us through every trial. Let’s Pray Together Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me new life in Your Son, Jesus. Help me to abide in You daily and hold fast to the peace You bring. Deepen my roots in You during seasons of suffering, and keep me connected to Your love and strength. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Never a dull moment with the More or Less squad: Jessica questions whether Sora is just a novelty or the start of an AI-native social economy, arguing OpenAI needs its own device to escape current platform limits. Brit calls it “Vine meets MySpace,” highlighting its cameo mechanic as a creator tool that could outpace Meta's AI video. Dave says Sora only needs to be entertaining and pitches OpenAI's real graph play: embedding ChatGPT in group chats. Sam compares Sora to Truth Social, not Instagram, arguing power and narrative—not unit economics—drive the AI capex boom. Tema del dia Ni el Joan, ni la Sílvia ni l'Andreu són gent de platja, però resulta que és el tema #72 de la llista de temes del Randy, així que avui repassem el vocabulari sobre la platja i el mar. Som-hi! Vine a parlar a Discord cada setmana! (http://easycatalan.org/membership) Bonus Continuem la conversa sobre els llocs on ens agrada llegir. Transcripció Joan: [0:15] Hola, Andreu! Com estàs? Andreu: [0:17] Hola, Joan! Bé, bé, ja s'ha acabat el Repte… Joan: [0:22] Estàs trist? Andreu: [0:24] Em… No, a veure, siguem sincers, en realitat... és a dir, no dic... Joan: [0:33] Estàs trist, eh? Andreu: [0:36] No! Espera, o sigui, aquest episodi que s'està publicant, si tot va bé, s'està publicant, s'ha publicat el dia 2 d'octubre, l'estem gravant el 5 de setembre, o sigui, gairebé amb un mes d'antelació. Llavors… Joan: [0:49] Jo volia fer aquí la comèdia, eh? Andreu: [0:52] No, no, no farem teatre. Per nosaltres, ara mateix, el Joan i l'Andreu que estan gravant, el Repte tot just ha començat, però clar, el dia 2 ja s'haurà acabat. Llavors, de moment podem dir que està anant molt bé, i esperem que continuï així fins al final. Joan: [1:10] Doncs ara que dius això de que no sabem què haurà passat, tampoc sabrem si ja potser ha nascut la Meritxell, eh? La meva filla i de la Sílvia. Andreu: [1:20] Clar! Ui, crec que acabes de revelar el nom aquí al pòdcast per primer cop. Joan: [1:24] Ah, doncs es dirà Meritxell. Andreu: [1:26] Meritxell. Joan: [1:27] Sí. Andreu: [1:28] I per què Meritxell? Joan: [1:29] Mira, no ho sé. Joan: [2:16] O si no estarà a punt a punt a punt. Andreu: [2:17] O si no, estarà super a punt de néixer, la Meritxell. Per tant, bé, qui sap com estarem realment el 2 d'octubre. Estarem molt cansats del Repte, o no, amb ganes de repetir…? Jo sí, jo amb ganes de repetir segur, perquè m'ho vaig passar molt bé al gener. M'ho estic passant molt bé ara. Llavors… no sé, segurament repetirem, no?, Joan? Joan: [2:39] Sí, sí, segur! Tu què creus? Per quines dates podria ser? Andreu: [2:43] Jo crec que el gener és un bon moment per repetir. Clar, aquest any el vam fer al gener i ara el setembre. Han passat molts mesos entremig. Jo crec que podríem tornar-ho a fer al gener, però potser ho podríem fer en un format diferent. Joan: [2:57] Un format diferent, què vols dir? Trending with Timmerie - Catholic Principals applied to today's experiences.
Image via Gilbert Parmonangan / Shutterstock. At Charlie Kirk’s public memorial in Arizona, his widow Erika urged mourners to “mark your soul again and again” through daily choices for Christ, quoting Charlie’s journal about how each decision leaves a mark on the soul. Timmerie guides you through Erika’s faith-filled call to prayer, Scripture, Sunday worship, and perseverance under trial. What happened at the memorial The tribute took place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on Sunday, September 21, 2025. You might have seen Erika’s address, which many described as the most moving moment of the day. Her message centered on grace, forgiveness, and a life set apart for God. The heart of Erika’s message, as Timmerie highlights Timmerie zeroes in on a small, potent line from Charlie’s journal that Erika read aloud: “Every time you make a decision, it puts a mark on your soul.” From that seed, Erika invited people to "choose Christ again and again. Pray again. Read Scripture again. Go to Sunday Mass again. Break from the shackles of sin. She reminded everyone that discipleship is hard, and that Jesus promised the cross, not comfort. Timmerie then connects Erika’s call to the sacramental life. When good choices bring us close to Christ, we stay grafted to the Vine. When sin stains the soul, Confession restores us. This is classic Catholic spirituality: repeated acts that train love and form the will. And it is for every state of life, not only for public figures like Charlie Kirk. “Mark your soul” in Catholic terms -Prayer each day. Short prayers through the day keep the heart near God. -Scripture each day. The Gospels shape our choices and our speech. -Sunday worship every week. We keep the command – we receive the Lord. -Confession as needed. Grace wipes the stain and strengthens resolve. -Small sacrifices often. Love costs. The cross is our sign. Erika’s counsel matches time-tested Catholic practice. It turns grief into intercession, it turns shock into witness, and it builds a community that helps new believers grow. Here are some practical things you can do this week to practice holiness: -Welcome the seeker next to you at Mass. -Invite one person to pray with you this week. -Make the sign of the cross before meals – in public – with quiet courage. -Choose the good again. Then choose it again tomorrow. The saints made saints. That is how grace spreads – it starts with one small choice that leaves one clear mark on one willing soul.

Life in the Vine - Week 4September 28, 2025Teacher: Pastor Dave BrownRemainThis week, Pastor Dave Brown continues our Life in the Vine series with a message titled “Remain,” from John 15:4–6.Jesus says: “Remain in me, as I also remain in you… I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:4–5 NIV)What Does It Mean to Remain? The word “remain” means to dwell or make your home in. Pastor Dave reminded us that we're all abiding in something—whether it's comfort, worry, work, or distraction. The question is: what are you abiding in? Jesus calls us to make Him our true home. Abiding in Christ doesn't mean retreating from life but living every moment with Him—whether cooking dinner, commuting to work, or caring for your family. It's turning your life into a dwelling place for God.The Fruit of RemainingBranches can't bear fruit apart from the vine. In the same way, we wither without Jesus. But when we remain in Him, His life flows through us, producing fruit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23). Remaining in Jesus means letting His life and love flow through us, transforming us and blessing those around us.Reflection Questions* Where do you naturally “abide” when you're not paying attention?* How can you invite Jesus into your daily routines this week?* What fruit is growing in your life right now?
Jesus made a couple of bold statements to His disciples as He was talking to them about Him being "I AM the Vine." He said, "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given to you." Was that a promise? A guarantee? He also said, " This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples." In practice, that requires us to be able to "point and prove" in our lives. Perhaps the most incredible thing Jesus said, though, was "I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete." How could Jesus have been "joyful" in that moment, just a few hours before He would be arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane? Have you ever thought of Jesus as a man of joy, when we so often refer to Him, instead, as a "man of sorrows, acquainted with grief?"
For many of us, faith has been shaped by pressure to perform and produce. But in John 15, Jesus gives us another way: abiding in the True Vine. In this episode, Gem Fadling sits down with artist and author Bette Dickinson to explore how God as the loving Vinedresser leads us not toward exhaustion, but toward flourishing. If you’ve felt weighed down by striving or longed for a slower, more organic spirituality, this conversation will help you rediscover a rooted, fruitful faith. In This Episode, You’ll Learn: Why God’s primary concern isn’t productivity but flourishing The difference between an industrial approach to faith and an organic one How natural seasons reflect Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection The meaning of abiding as our place of belonging and identity in Christ How to trust fruit will emerge over time without forced busyness Resources & References Mentioned: The Art of Vinemaking: Flourishing in a Productivity-Driven Culture Making Room in Advent by Bette Dickinson John 15: The Vine and the Branches About Today’s Guest – Bette DickinsonBette Dickinson is a prophetic artist, author, and contemplative guide. The sermon emphasizes abiding in Christ as the key to experiencing joy and fulfilling one's purpose. Drawing from John 15, the message highlights the importance of meditating on God's word and actively engaging with His teachings, rather than seeking external validation or relying on human effort. It underscores that true peace and strength come from a deep, personal relationship with Christ, where believers are empowered to overcome challenges and bear fruit for His kingdom, ultimately demonstrating a life transformed by His grace and love.

Jesus isn't just looking for leaves—He's looking for fruit. In Mark 11:11–14, we see a fig tree that looked alive but was empty, a picture of Israel's outward religion without true righteousness. This week, Pastor Korey reminds us that real life in Christ comes from abiding in the Vine, not just looking spiritual on the outside, and calls us to examine what fruit God is growing in us today.
IWP Ep91 Short Stories on California Wine 3. Today will be our 3rd short story episode. These episodes are fun in that they gather od's and ends and pieces that don't fit other places. Sometimes it's a winery, topic or person that can't support a full episode but is still worth knowing about. Other times it's short articles that I find interesting. This episode will be a collection of magazine and newspaper articles, old book excerpts and a wine poem written by an early San Francisco writer and gastronome. ..................... Early modern London has long been recognised as a centre of religious diversity, yet the role of the home as the setting of religious practice for all faiths has been largely overlooked. In contrast, Birth, Death, and Domestic Religion in Early Modern London (Cambridge UP, 2025), Dr. Emily Vine offers the first examination of domestic religion in London during a period of intense religious change, between the Gunpowder Plot of 1605 and the Gordon Riots of 1780. Dr. Vine considers both Christian and Jewish practices, comparing the experiences of Catholics, Sephardi and Ashkenazi Jews, Huguenots, and conforming and nonconforming Protestants alike. Through its focus on the crowded metropolis as a place where households of different faiths coexisted, this study explores how religious communities operated beyond and in parallel to places of public worship. Dr. Vine demonstrates how families of different faiths experienced childbirth and death, arguing that homes became 'permeable' settings of communal religion at critical moments of the life cycle. By focusing on practices beyond the synagogue, meeting house, or church, this book demonstrates the vitality of collective devotion and kinship throughout the long eighteenth century. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. The Armenian wine trade, like the rest of the wine world, has headwinds and maybe a bit more than the more established countries and regions where wine is well known and respected. You have to add to the mix of struggles; unknown grape varietals, no port of entry, unknown regions and 75 years of Soviet oppression. Enter Zara Muradyan; a wine romanticist and proud Armenian vintner. She is fast becoming the one to know in the wine trade out of Armenia and possibly single-handedly recruited the famed and infamous Concours Mondial de Bruxelles International wine tasting to Yerevan, Armenia in May of 2026. It took a bit, but Wine Talks sat with Zara to hear her perspective. Zara Nuradyan can hardly believe it herself: in just fifteen years, Armenia has gone from a forgotten wine outpost—where the post-Soviet legacy meant brandy trumped wine—to a vibrant, world-class wine region inviting international acclaim. In this episode, you'll discover how Zara, the dynamic director of the Vine and Wine Foundation of Armenia and founder of Zara Wines, is not only championing Armenia's ancient winemaking heritage but also steering its modern renaissance. You'll hear how the country, armed with indigenous grapes like Areni and Voskahat, is shaking off its low-profile past to carve out a place on the international wine map—and why you might just see Armenian bottles on the tables of Tokyo, Los Angeles, or at your next masterclass. From government investment and educational initiatives to the role of diaspora and global tastings, Zara pulls back the curtain on how Armenia unites old-world traditions and new-world ambition, even courting major international competitions right in Yerevan. You'll get an insider's look at the challenges and headwinds, the heady joys of a growing industry, and the story of how passion, terroir, and a can-do spirit have created not just better wine, but a new cultural touchstone for Armenians at home and abroad. If you've ever doubted that a “brand new ancient” wine country could dazzle the global stage, Zara's journey will leave you uncorking more than a few assumptions—and maybe reaching for a bottle of something you've never tasted before. "Vine Terror" is a short story by Howard Wandrei, first published in the September 1934 edition of Weird Tales. Described as follows: "An unusual weird-scientific tale, about vegetable vampires that lusted for animal and human food."
In this episode of the Unhurried Living Podcast, we explore the difference between work that flows from grace and love, and work that drains us because it’s fueled by fear, insecurity, or people-pleasing. Together we’ll talk about holy rhythms of work and rest, and what it looks like to return to the “easy yoke” of Jesus. If you’ve been feeling weary, overextended, or caught in workaholism, this conversation offers hope: you can lead from rest rather than rush. What You’ll Take Away from This Episode: How to discern between grace-energized work and soul-draining drivenness. Why busyness, according to Eugene Peterson, is not productivity but a form of laziness. The danger of “false vines” that drain life rather than nourish it. Small, sustainable practices for weaving sabbath and reflection into daily rhythms. How contemplative practices root us in God’s presence so our work becomes overflow, not overextension.
