Karl began his refereeing qualifications in January 2014 and continued to play for Harlequins while gaining experience officiating. This was made possible by the fact he never made the starting XV. Through the London Society of Referees he made his refereeing debut at the Reigate School 7s in March 2014 and since then has taken charge of a range of matches including schools, club juniors, sevens as well as local and national league clubs. Karl has refereed two A League semi-finals, Exeter v Newcastle in 2016 and Gloucester v Wasps in 2017 and made his debut in the Greene King IPA Championship in the Christmas Eve match between London Irish and Richmond. Three days later he was involved in Big Game 9 where Harlequins played Gloucester in the Aviva Premiership at Twickenham. After 169 appearances for Harlequins scrum-half Dickson announced his retirement in April and joins the Rugby Football Union's Professional Game Match Officials Team (PGMOT). Dickson said: "Over the last two years any time that I have had - a free Saturday or Sunday or even during the week - I would referee as many games as possible to get as much practice as I could. Every game you learn something new and gain increasing match sharpness. "I would always encourage players to plan for when they retire and the fact that I've been refereeing for three years already puts me in a position where I can look forward to starting with the team next season and, having refereed in a Championship game this year, hopefully officiate more at that level. I wouldn't have this opportunity unless I started when I did." In an interview to Rugby Players Association, he said refereeing at international level was his "main goal". A goal reached when in October 2020, Karl was appointed as the main referee in a friendly game between France and Wales, in the Stade de France. Austin Healey, also known as the Leicester Lip, was a hugely versatile player, gaining international caps for England at scrum-half, fly-half and wing. Healey began his career with Orrell and Waterloo at wing or outside centre before switching to scrum-half when he signed for Leicester Tigers in 1996. It was this admirable versatility that proved to be Healey's greatest success and disadvantage in the game leading to him often, unfairly, being labelled as a "jack of all trades, master of none". In reality Healey was at times a fiercely intelligent scrum-half, full of snap and niggle and always aware of the chance for a sniping break. On the wing, his pace and tactical awareness allowed him opportunities at club and international level following the arrival of Fijian Waisale Serevi at Leicester. His desire to play at fly-half was granted at Leicester at the expense of Andy Goode, but Healey never reached the heights expected of him in the position. Indeed, he only won a single England cap at 10. Healey was an often outspoken member of the rugby fraternity, having spats with coaches Graham Henry, Andy Robinson and Pat Howard during his eventful career. He received his full England debut against Ireland in the 1997 Five Nations, and went on to amass 51 England caps. During his career he was a Lions tourist in 1997 on the victorious tour of South Africa and again in 2001 during the series loss to Australia. His only Test caps came as a replacement in the second and third Tests in 1997. Healey's finest moments on a rugby pitch came in the green and red of Leicester however. In the 2001 an 2002 Heineken Cup finals Healey was instrumental in bringing the silverware to Welford Road. He provided the break that led to the winning score against Stade Francais in 2001, and he scored the decisive try himself against Munster in 2002. Following the high of the 2002 Heineken Cup win, it was back down to earth when Healey was left out of England's World Cup-winning squad in 2003. This event would gnaw at Healey to the end of his career, and he never played for England again following the World Cup warm-up with France in August 2003. His retirement came at the end of the 2005-06 season following several damaging injuries. Healey then worked for Credit Suisse and served as an analyst for the BBC and Sky. In 2008 Healey took part in the sixth series of Strictly Come Dancing, following in the footsteps of Matt Dawson and Kenny Logan. In 2010, Healey was confirmed as ESPN's lead analyst prior to the UK channel's first season of Aviva Premiership rugby.

England has some potentially very big issues facing Eddie Jones after England slumped to a fifth-placed finish in the Six Nations, their worst result since 1987.Hargreaves says cracks have been appearing for while but had they had been papered over by earlier wins."It's a pretty bleak state of affairs. I think the biggest concern is that there are several problems."It's not as if there are one or two obvious things that need to be sorted, there are five or six things that have crept up on the team."Cracks have been appearing but because England kept on winning, we glossed over them and suddenly because they've gone on this [losing] streak it's really coming out to bear in a fairly dramatic manner."Hargreaves says the biggest issue facing England is the breakdown and the penalty count, but Jones also needs to address the 'listlessness' and their toothless attack. There have been issues raised with players' workloads, with several claiming the Lions' tour has unduly affected the English players.England provided the bulk of the touring squad but Hargreaves says unlike Ireland and Wales who can rest their players, English clubs don't have that luxury."The only slight difference is the attritional nature of the Aviva Premiership. It's got very strong strength in depth, so rarely can you risk playing you're best players when they're available."The perfect example is Jonny Sexton has only played two 80 minute games of rugby for Leinster since the Lions tour, while [England opposite] Owen Farrell has played 16 80 minute matches for Saracens since the Lions tour."It's not an excuse but it is a factor."However, with 18 months until the Rugby World Cup there is still time for Jones and England to turn their form around.LISTEN ABOVE AS RUSSELL HARGREAVES SPEAKS WITH THE RADIO SPORT BREAKFAST

This is a business meeting I had with professional rugby player Dan Thomas who plays for Bristol RFC. For those that don't know Bristol are flying in the Championship and look set to gain promotion into the Aviva Premiership. Dan is a super nice guy and it was fascinating to learn some insights about what it takes to be a professional sportsman and I can't wait to see how his career progresses. I truly believe there is a lot that businesses can learn from professional sport in terms of work ethic and culture.

Q2 With 7 wins, 2 draws and 4 losses in 2017, are the Springboks on the up or down heading to the Rugby World Cup? Q3 There are 5 ex-All Blacks rumoured to be trying to qualify for Pacific Island sides for the Rugby World Cup in Japan, what are you thoughts on playing for more that one country? In the Autumn Internationals, England defeated Australia in a tightly contested game, which was ultimately decided by Australia’s inability to take Care of England’s replacements. The Aussies fumed about the grief from O’Keefe, but really they should focus on their decision making and their Cheika’d disciplinary record. Scotland were desperately close to a monumental upset win over NZ, but as usual the All Blacks came up with a 24 ‘Barrett’ gold moment when they needed it most. Wales did their best impression of a reluctant woman in labour as they refused to push against Georgia, but manged to come out on top in a dull & controversial encounter & Ireland win again, but didn’t have it easy against Fiji, In the big news of the week, Finn Russell says Au Revoir to Glasgow in the summer and looks likely to be playing in Paris next season. The Aviva Premiership returned with more missing internationals than a diplomatic convoy to the Bermuda triangle, but threw up some great games with Worcester picking up their first win of the season, Wasps hammering Newcastle and Gloucester being Gloucester against Saracens.
