This week we were thrilled to welcome Gubernatorial candidate Adam Edelen onto our show. Robert talked to him about why he's running, what he wants to do as governor, how he would accomplish those goals, and how he plans to win the election. Mr. Edelen is full of policy ideas and definitely has a clear vision for Kentucky's future. (Interview begins at 29:23) Before speaking with Mr. Edelen, Jazmin and Robert talk through the second and third parts of a series of articles in the Herald-Leader (written with ProPublica) about Alison Lundergan Grimes and her relationship with the State Board of Elections, plus her connections with a cybersecurity firm that received a no-bid contract. Then, Jazmin and Robert discuss the recount in the 13th House District, which ended in a tie! Finally, they wrap the news with two topics touching on abortion rights in Kentucky. +79
This week, Rae Hodge sits in for Jazmin and she and Robert speak with Sarah Zeller of the Kentucky Center for Economic Policy about their new economic agenda. They speak about it's purpose and contents, what KCEP hopes to accomplish with it, and how they expect to use it. They also discuss ways the economic agenda is already being used on the campaign trail. Before the interview, Rae and Robert discuss the indictment of Jerry Lundergan and what that means for his daughter, Alison Lundergan Grimes. In addition, the duo talk through the massive raise for Kentucky's CIO.
What a jam packed show we have for you guys this week! Dr. Karen Berg, Democratic candidate for the 26th Senate district in Oldham and NE Jefferson Counties visits with us and talks strategy and why she's running. We've been watching this district pretty closely! She talked at length about the issues she's passionate about and bringing her message to the voters in Oldham County. Before that, Jazmin and Robert talked about the settlement between JCPS & the KY Board of Education (removing the need for a takeover). We also talked about Alison Lundergan Grimes being accused of several things by the Executive Director of the board of elections and the fallout there. Jazmin did a story about legislator's travel loopholes, Robert talked about the LRC Director's contract not being renewed, and there was an update in the Governor's race. It's a full show! Thanks for listening.

This week we were fortunate enough to record our first LIVE podcast, and even cooler, it was live from Politicon! Joining us we were lucky to have the extremely impressive Alison Lundergan Grimes (Seceretary of State in Kentucky) We discussed being liberal in the south (You don't say?) How Democrats can reach working class Americans, and what we think Mitch McConnell smells like. Alison Lundergan Grimes took Kentucky and the nation by storm when, at 35 years old, she ran for the United States Senate against Mitch McConnell. She made her campaign about standing up for women's rights, veterans' rights, workers' rights, and human rights. Despite over $70 million spent against her, Alison kept the race neck-and-neck to the very end in one of the most conservative states in the nation. Recently re-elected to her second term as Kentucky's Secretary of State, Alison is the youngest female secretary of state in the nation and the only remaining statewide elected female Democrat in the South. Alison is continuing to champion the ideal that's at her core: every person deserves a fair shake and an equal chance. Three weeks out from election day, Nicole talks about ugly politics. Salon's Thomas Frank guests to discuss his latest interviews with Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders. Plus John Brody of Backus Nurses/AFT on Ebola preparedness, Wendy Davis' ad, and Alison Lundergan Grimes' voting record too.
Tonight's guest will be Libertarian David Patterson who is running for the U.S. Senate in Kentucky against Republican Mitch McConnell and Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes. David Patterson is a Police Officer with the town of Harrodsburg, Kentucky. Patterson has been excluded from Senate Debates in Kentucky and now the ACLU has commented on the debates asking that all ballot qualified candidates be included. We'll be discussing all of this with Mr. Patterson on the show. Joe Enroughty, Jeff Kleb, and Jeffry Sanford host this week. Don't miss it.
Dragging their feet on (1) setting up insurance exchanges in their respective states even though such required funding is 95% guaranteed and supplied by the federal government and (2) snuffing out voter participation with artificial constraints designed only to stifle voting and (3) lastly rendering a women's right to an abortion as nothing more than a mere abstract exercise will all, in combination, propel the 21st century GOP into utter oblivion in the face of the overwhelming changing demographics that are heavily weighted in favor of Democratic Party affiliation. The impetus for the Tea-Party phenomenon is for the most part fueled by the still-lingering embers of the Southern Confederacy and the bible-strewn small towns littering this section of our nation that still insist on casting out those demons of the modern nation-state that dares to empower individuals with the full trappings of individual rights and choices. The South had its share of snake-oil charlatans in the 19th Century and it continues today with the Tea Party Express. The Koch Brothers are the new southern-based snake oil salesmen par excellence, single-handedly fueling the Tea Bagger Movement but they are fighting a losing battle with history, demographics and the human capacity to transform our species into higher levels of existence. The folks beating the drum for a return to the “Dukes of Hazard” will shortly run into the biggest dose of whoop-ass this country has ever seen, starting now and lasting through 2014. Starting with formerly mild-mannered Senate Leader Harry Reid and on down to GOP Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's Democratic opponent in Kentucky in November 2014 [Alison Lundergan Grimes] along with the current Democratic candidate for governor in Virginia (Terry McAuliffe), the Democrats are according themselves as the kicking donkeys that is the very trademark of the party.
