    Ivy Insights

The WellRED podcast is an absolute hit in my book! As a 70-year-old who may have lost touch with contemporary language usage during the pandemic, I can't help but appreciate the intelligence and thought-provoking topics discussed on this show. It's refreshing to hear from thinking folks who aren't afraid to be blunt and tackle important issues. The inclusion of David Joy's interview was a highlight, as it introduced me to the world of Appalachian noir, something I had been missing out on. Overall, this podcast has become a sanity-saving source of political rants and entertainment for me, and I'm grateful for it.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is its ability to provide relief and understanding to us like-minded southerners. Living in liberal hubs can be great, but sometimes it's comforting to hear perspectives that resonate with our own experiences in more conservative areas. The hosts' ability to provide humor while discussing serious topics makes the world seem just a little less terrifying. Their honest perspective and relatable words are greatly appreciated by their audience.

However, one aspect that could be improved upon is the audio levels between the contributors. Sometimes, one host comes across as extremely loud while others are harder to hear, making it difficult to balance or fully enjoy the combined show experience. It would be great if they could take a look at their setup and work on balancing the overall audio levels.

In conclusion, The WellRED podcast has been an absolute joy for me since I started listening years ago. From their hilarious banter to their intelligent discussions about politics and culture, this podcast never fails to entertain and educate. As a liberal middle-aged woman myself, I feel seen and understood by these hosts who embody the southern liberal experience. They make me laugh out loud even when I'm walking alone with earbuds on! These boys truly feel like family, and their work is nothing short of revolutionary in my eyes.

On this very special episode of WellRED aka "The Drew Skeew!" Drew sits down one on one with Author L.A. Fields! L.A. Fields is the award-winning author of LGBT novels, short stories, and scholarship, including the Lambda Literary Award finalists My Dear Watson (a Sherlock Holmes pastiche) and Homo Superiors (a modern Leopold and Loeb retelling). Summary of their new book River Trash!: Singer-songwriter Whitney Thorn is a 50-year-old recovered crystal meth addict and the well-known son of country music royalty. Struggling comedian and former nurse Graham Morrow is down and out at 35, living back home with his mother. They meet at an unauthorized show in a Louisiana field and take a chance on shacking up together, creating art at leisure and exploring each other with curiosity and wonder. But with hurricanes ravaging other parts of the South and death tolls rising due to COVID-19, eventually trouble finds them. River Trash is a slice of Americana, a love story, and a bottle novel that takes place mainly indoors. Two men seek to know one another while a chaotic world swirls around them.
