CJ Trowbridge discusses his latest land project, the High Desert Institute, and a previous one that was featured on the 2023 reality show "The Garden: Commune or Cult?"--where the founding of an anticapitalist, consensus-based community was chronicled by corporate TV channel producers for a Discovery Channel audience. We also talk about the Cyberpony Express mesh network he's working on (basically, a parallel internet outside the clutches of the telecoms oligarchs like AT&T). We're over the hump with 100 episodes in the tank, so we brought writer, comedian, and friend of the pod, John Trowbridge, back on to discuss the time in his youth that he was convinced he alone needed to save the world from the British Illuminati. We also do a VERY important data dump before we chat aura points, Maggie being in shy dog mode, the perks of being a Farmer's Dog sugarbaby, Caroline's decision to pursue access to her legacy Neopets account, and James going fat head mode trying to find a hat that will fit his head. If you're in NYC, be sure to check out John's extremely funny one man show, The Greatest Solo Show of All Time, Saturday October 12th, 7pm at the UCB Theatre. Welcome to another episode of Category Visionaries — the show that explores GTM stories from tech's most innovative B2B founders. In today's episode, we're speaking with Tom Trowbridge, Co-Founder of Fluence Labs, a Web3 native computing platform that has raised $9 Million in funding. Here are the most interesting points from our conversation: Addressing Monopolistic Behavior: Fluence Labs aims to counter the monopolistic nature of cloud providers by creating a decentralized, peer-to-peer computing platform that reduces reliance on centralized infrastructure. Solving Central Points of Failure: By distributing computation across multiple nodes globally, Fluence enhances resilience and reduces the risk of service disruptions due to single points of failure. Combating Government Influence: The platform is designed to reduce government control and surveillance over digital infrastructure by decentralizing data and compute operations. Advanced Peer-to-Peer Compute: Fluence offers a peer-to-peer compute network where operations can be performed at multiple locations, improving efficiency and reducing costs. Economic Layer Development: The upcoming economic layer will enable compensation for hosts running computations and for developers creating software, fostering a thriving ecosystem. Composability with Aqua Language: Fluence's Aqua language simplifies building peer-to-peer applications, allowing developers to assemble applications from pre-existing modules, similar to the Defi ecosystem. // Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe. www.GlobalTalent.co

Plus, we get the inside angle on his creation of OCTA's famous sleeve blurb.
Today Zoe and Easton are unraveling a complex yet fascinating story connecting a solar eclipse in 1806 to a future president, Chief Anderson's ascension to Chiefdom, and a pan-indigenous movement led by a Tecumseh and Tenskwatawa- the man that many remember as 'The prophet.' They won't be alone however. Our curator of Native American history and life, Sara Schumacher, is back with us, setting the historical stage and teaching us who the fascinating figures that make up this story are and how they got here. Later on, the former Assistant Chief of the Delaware Tribe of Indians in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and was a longtime cultural ambassador and Historical Interpreter here at Conner Prairie, Mike Pace, makes his podcast debut to recount his experiences as a member of the Lenape nation and explore the long-term impacts that the often overlooked indigenous population have on our state of Indiana as well as our nation. PDF. * * This is a work created by an unreliable author with a singular source to represent a vast nation of people. Black Hoof himself has biases that may leak into the work as well. He would have no reason not to mention the 1806 eclipse and the Prophet but since we can't read Trowbridge's notes we don't know if Black Hoof mentioned it and Trowbridge left it out or if it was never mentioned at all. Also sensationalizes ritual cannibalism which rarely occurred amongst the Shawnee and even rarer post-contact.

Alexis and Fallon recap and dive (deep) on episodes 3 and 4. President Rayburn's plans in the Gulf have everyone more on edge than normal (if that's possible). They spend the first chunk of the episode babysitting/negotiating what the President and PM should or shouldn't say re: who bombed the boat. Hal has to out himself as the problem (shocker) to support the fact that Kate, and all the reasonable folks are adamant that Iran didn't do it. After an epic throwdown, actual knock down drag out fight with Hal, Kate tries to resign after convincing the president not to send ships to the Persian gulf. The Brits, mostly Trowbridge are super convinced it's Iran and doing the things a country does before it goes to war. The UK/Iran meeting is set up and Kate back channels her way in. But not before Stuart reassures Eidra that their relationship is good. All seems to be well in the meeting with the Iranian ambassador…until he drops dead in the office.
Natural medicine might seem distant from the far-right fringes of society until you dig a little deeper and find the wealth of ‘wellness products' being sold alongside political conspiracies. There is a constant quest for increasing well-being and less ‘toxic' lifestyles. Meanwhile, conspiracy theories drain resources and instill fears, including political plots, controls, and cabals. It happens in the extremes on all sides, the quest for health alongside an implanted mission searching for “the truth.” Time magazine printed a November 2023 article called Wellness Conspiracy Theories are Spreading and highlighted the topic known colloquially as “conspirituality.” This leaves people simply seeking to feel better with the additional question of how to recognize scams from reality in holistic and natural health communities. Dr. Melanie Trowbridge is a Licensed Naturopathic Physician and Acupuncturist practicing in Washington State. She and I spoke about the complexity of discernment in natural health communities at this time and about how AI is changing the future of medicine. Her first career was in technology and more recently completed a course at MIT on AI. Melanie also practices separately as an Ordained Spiritual Nature Minister. What should you say to a friend who has cancer? If you're the one with the diagnosis, how do you tell your kids? And is it really possible to futureproof your body against illness? Answering all these questions is the brilliant Rosamund Dean. She tells us about her journey from finding a lump in her boob to being cancer free, and what she wishes she'd known at the beginning. We discuss clipboard people versus duvet people, and whether early menopause is more like pick'n'mix or a Glastonbury toilet. Rosamund explains how having cancer has affected her perspective, and reveals the biggest change she's made to her lifestyle. Yes, it's a serious subject, but we still manage to have some laughs along the way. And of course we finish with some Scummy Mummy Confessions - this time involving Baileys, sweat, glitter, and lying to children. You're not going to find expansive Angus ranches on wide open plains in New York, but if you head just 90 miles north of The Big Apple, you will find Trowbridge Angus Farms. With reach across the United States, Phil and Annie Trowbridge, along with son and daughter-in-law, PJ and Miranda, have made a name for themselves by creating cattle for the showring and the commercial industry in tandem. And they've done it by leasing small pastures, working closely with their “weekender” neighbors who come out to country homes and helping their customers create a market for their cattle. This episode covers everything from the family winning the county fair rabbit show to the time they brought a bull to Madison Square Gardens.GUEST: Phil Trowbridge and his family operate Trowbridge Angus Farms near Ghent, N.Y. Trowbridge earned an animal science degree from Alfred Sate College, Alfred, N.Y. The day after his graduation in 1976, he became a herdsman for Gallagher's Angus Farm in Ghent, N.Y., and gradually built up his own Angus herd in the same community. He and his wife, Annie, have two grown children and six grandchildren, who are all involved in the farm in some way. This episode is brought to you by Westway Feed Products. This week China hit a record high temperature, a scorching 52.2°C, while Death Valley in California measured 53.9°C. Elsewhere, Europe has been battling searing heat and raging wildfires. In previous editions of Inside Science we've explored the effects of heat on our health. This week we've zoomed out to get a wider perspective on the impacts of soaring temperatures. First up, Rebecca Tobi from the Food Foundation reveals how this weather will impact the range of foods we are used to seeing on supermarket shelves. Next we hear from Hayley Fowler, professor of climate change impacts at Newcastle University. She explains how the jet stream – which plays a large role in the UK's weather – is affecting extreme weather patterns. Another country experiencing particularly extreme weather at the moment is China. BBC correspondent in Hong Kong, Danny Vincent, tells us how record temperatures could have wide-ranging effects beyond China's borders. Changing heat patterns could even unlock new habitats for wildlife. Jo Lines, professor of malaria and vector biology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, says that we need to be aware of mosquito-borne diseases that could take hold in Europe. Then it's off to Reading University, where reporter Harrison Lewis chats to meteorologist Dr Rob Thompson and senior researcher Dr Natalie Harvey, to find out more about how weather balloons can help with storm forecasting. Finally, we're heading back to Trowbridge, near Bath, where Dr Stuart Farrimond explains exactly how our gardens can help in the battle against climate change. Presenter: Marnie Chesterton Producer: Harrison Lewis Content producer: Alice Lipscombe-Southwell Assistant producer: Robbie Wojciechowski Editor: Richard Collings
