Gubernatorial candidate Bill Berrien seems to be “buryin'” his campaign hopes each time he's asked questions about his positions or his history. It took four tries, but a reporter finally got the wealthy businessman to claim he regrets supporting Nikki Haley in the last GOP presidential primary. And he didn't have a very convincing answer to what separates him from Eric Hovde and Tim Michels, two other wealthy businessmen seeking a high office without any significant political experience. On this week's podcast Paul and Wally take a closer look at the Gov.'s comments on Face the Nation. MLG rarely gives televised interviews to the NM media, so each conversation with the national media is worth scrutinizing. Even when she says factual things her remarks often make us wonder what about her statements and their accuracy and intent. Paul's opinion piece on New Mexico's film industry and the recession/depression facing it ran in the ABQ Journal recently. Gubernatorial candidate Deb Haaland uses some imprecise language to attack "millionaires and billionaires" in a recent tweet. MLG says a special session of the Legislature is coming soon. What does she want the Legislature to do? And, why now given the timing of the Medicaid changes. In February, SC US Representative, Nancy Mace gave a 53 minute speech on the House floor that accused four men of terrible crimes against women. All the men of denied the accusations and none have been charged with the crimes. Mace accused SC AG and Gubernatorial candidate, Alan Wilson, of not doing his job to protect women from men like those she accused. The U.S. Constitution has some legal protection from anything they say on the floor. However; questions remain if those same protections can be used if the accusations are made on social media or elsewhere outside the floor. Fallout From Mace's speech causing lawsuits to mount. This week we are diverging from our normal Odd Years format to introduce you to another Cook Political Report product, Editors Roundtable. This podcast features a rotating cast of our Cook Political Report team breaking down the latest news, analysis and insights about the most important House, Senate and Gubernatorial contests in the country. We like to think of this podcast as an opportunity for you to get the behind the scenes access to the conversations we are having at our weekly Cook Political Report editorial meetings. This week, our talented colleagues talk about the most interesting and consequential state in the 2026 midterms: Michigan.
