This week we are diverging from our normal Odd Years format to introduce you to another Cook Political Report product, Editors Roundtable. This podcast features a rotating cast of our Cook Political Report team breaking down the latest news, analysis and insights about the most important House, Senate and Gubernatorial contests in the country. We like to think of this podcast as an opportunity for you to get the behind the scenes access to the conversations we are having at our weekly Cook Political Report editorial meetings. This week, our talented colleagues talk about the most interesting and consequential state in the 2026 midterms: Michigan. The Wolverine state has it all; a three-way gubernatorial contest featuring the former Democratic Mayor of Detroit, who is running as an Independent; competitive primaries for one of the most competitive Senate races in the country, and a slew of critical House contests that could determine control of Congress next year. And, we can't have a conversation about Michigan without using a mitt (in this case our Managing Editor's own oven mitt), to help illustrate where each important congressional district and key cities are located in the state. That “U” shape between the thumb and index finger, that's Detroit, BTW. We hope you enjoy this episode. And, more importantly, if you do like it, and to hear more of it, subscribe to the Cook Political Report where you can get the kind of deeply sourced, non-partisan and accurate analysis of every race up in 2025 and 2026. Congressman Ritchie Torres (D-NY), one of Israel's most vocal Democratic defenders in Congress, joined The Guy Benson Show today to explain why he supports Israel's preemptive strikes against Iran, where Torres says that the strikes are in the best interest of the United States and the free world. Torres emphasized Iran's bloody history against Americans and warned against allowing the world's top state sponsor of terrorism to go nuclear. Torres said that Israel should attempt to destroy Fordo themselves, but said that he would support the U.S. intervening in a limited capacity to assist. Guy and Torres then weighed in on the NYC mayoral race and warned of the dangers if Democratic Socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the NYC mayoral race, and didn't mince words in calling Governor Kathy Hochul "the least effective executive" on the face of the earth when asked why he'd consider running for governor of New York. Quentin Pullen - aka "Coach Q" - has made a run at politics but currently hails as a fitness coach & movement therapist. I sense serving constituents isn't off the table for him, though, and he's spent a lot of time as an activist and organizer with the Georgia 50501 chapter. He joined me today to provide his perspective - as a former Marine and Californian - on all that's going on in Los Angeles - with Marines and National Guard troops there at the behest of President Trump and to get the gameplan for 'No Kings' protests and Juneteenth commemorations this weekend. ------Also hailing from Fayette County is state Representative Derrick Jackson, who last week announced he's jumping into the race to be the Georgia Democratic Party's nominee for Governor in 2026. I asked him what made him stand out amongst the current (and potential future) crop of candidates in the party and what his campaign's biggest issues are to focus on.
Virginia’s candidates for governor are heading into the fall election season with millions of dollars of campaign cash. But Michael Pope tells us that one candidate has significantly more money than the other.

This week hosts Tiffany Cross, Angela Rye, and Andrew Gillum interview Atlanta’s former mayor–and now GA gubernatorial candidate–Keisha Lance Bottoms. And we’ll respond to some of your criticism… Last week we did an episode about migrant rights that some of y’all pushed back on in the comments. Moreover, we hear your criticism that y’all want to know what to do and not necessarily just a lecture. We’re here for this back-and-forth, let’s talk. Gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms tells us what she learned from Stacey Abrams near-miss in Georgia, offers a thought or two on the situation at FAMU, and opens up about her strategy to win rural voters. The lone statewide-elected Democratic official has thrown his hat in the ring for the race for governor in 2026.
South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson joins Tara on-air to address speculation about a potential run for governor, stating a decision is likely but not final. He responds directly to accusations from Rep. Nancy Mace, including claims that he's failed to prosecute pedophiles and acted corruptly—calling the allegations misleading and politically motivated. Wilson highlights his office's track record on child protection, recent legislative wins, and ongoing efforts with federal programs to combat illegal immigration. He also shares his views on potentially deputizing state officials, similar to Florida's approach under Governor Ron DeSantis.
In March, Assemblymember Buffy Wicks and a bipartisan group of lawmakers introduced a 22-bill package aimed at reforming the building permitting process in California, an effort to fast-track housing development statewide. Wicks described the package as an effort to “slash red tape, remove uncertainty and to drastically reduce the time it takes to get new housing approved and built” in California. Asm. Wicks joined us to talk about the bills, why they are needed, and what it will take to get the package to the governor's desk this year.Next up, we're joined by Port of Long Beach CEO Mario Cordero to talk about the impact of the new Trump tariffs on the nation's busiest port. The conversations happening online within the various websites that report, discuss and analyze key moments in an election or candidate are the way of the future in the political world. With powerful algorithms and AI tools the folks over at Eyes Over are about 3 days ahead of traditional polling. This is crucial if a candidate needs to address a key point or issue at hand as the results come in real time. Well on today's show the CEO of Eyes Over, Christopher Wilson, is going to update us on their latest data. Instead of favorable or unfavorable, Eyes Over uses online sentiment and when it comes to folks like Senator Van Hollen, sentiment is abysmal. Van Hollen is at 32 percent after his recent trip to El Salvador. Even as the media hails him as some sort of champion, the truth is most people don't like or appreciate what he is doing. Online sentiment registers differently and the highest high is around 50 percent, well Karoline Leavitt right now is sitting at 45 percent, showing how adept she is in her high pressure role. Chris gives us crucial insight into Gubernatorial races in Virginia and New Jersey as well as the public's trust in institutions such as the military, church, Supreme court and Congress. AI aggregating tools and online conversations are the future of politics and Eyes Over is at the forefront. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 3: 5:05pm- According to a report from NJ.com, the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) has contributed $22.25 million to benefit Sean Spiller's NJ gubernatorial campaign. Spiller, who didn't have enough state-wide support to qualify for two upcoming Democrat primary debates, is a former high school science biology teacher who also leads the NJEA. He earns $370,000 per year. Rich wonders: how is this legal? 5:25pm- Montage: Every year, since 1993, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has warned that America's evolution toward an oligarchy is imminent. But he doesn't seem to have any concerns over George Soros's massive contributions to progressive figures. PLUS, Sanders lectured an audience at Coachella about economic justice. Notably, Coachella tickets cost between $600 and $1,400… 5:40pm- Gerald Posner—Award-Winning Investigative Journalist & Author of the book “Case Closed: Lee Harvey Oswald and the Assassination of JFK”—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his latest article, “Fighting Each Other: How U.S. Intelligence Rivalries Hampered the Battle Against Islamic Terrorism.” You can read the full article here: https://www.skeptic.com/article/how-american-intelligence-rivalries-hampered-the-battle-against-islamic-terrorism/. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 4: 6:05pm- During a Monday cabinet meeting, President Donald Trump noted that “many companies are now moving into the United States”—estimating that trillions of dollars of manufacturing is in the process of returning to the country. 6:15pm- Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) have begun their cross-country “Fighting the Oligarchy” tour. On Thursday night, an estimated 15,000 people attended the event at Arizona State University's Mullet Arena. 6:40pm- Disney Disaster: Disney's live action remake of the classic film Snow White hit theaters on March 21st. Despite needing to earn a reported $600 million to cover production and marketing costs, the film only grossed $43 million in its opening weekend. Part of the problem, according to reports, is Disney's unwillingness to put the film's star, Rachel Zegler, on an extended promotional tour due to her past controversial comments which have included criticisms of the original Snow White story, nasty comments about castmates, and profane remarks about President Donald Trump and his supporters. 6:50pm- Will President Donald Trump get involved in New Jersey's gubernatorial race? And will the Garden State finally turn red? Earlier today, former State Senator Edward Durr announced he was withdrawing from the race and is now endorsing former radio talk show host Bill Spadea.
