Gerard Heidgerken is known to the pirate world as BilgeMunky and he's been a diehard promoter of modern pirate music for over a decade. We dig into where he came from as one of the first pirate bloggers, DJs, and podcasters (before podcasts were even podcasts...) Also on the show, comedy from this year's winner of the San Francisco Comedy Competition, Myles Weber. And music from lovable Parrothead Loren Davidson. Lots of fun and laughs in this one. Bilgemunky fights a cough with ferocity while spinning the greatest pirate tunes on the planet.
After returning from NorCal, Bilgemunky lays in a new broadside of pirate tunage, including new music from Seaskeleton and Craig Nybo of Rustmonster!
New music from Tom Mason, plus Bilgemunky tastes a new rum :)
It was a somewhat more subdued night, as Bilgemunky was nursing the early stages of a headcold (that HOPEFULLY won't last long). But we still had plenty of great pirate songs, and loads of listener requests!
Pirate music, some rum... who cares that it's blizzarding outside?
The weather outside is frightful, but Bilgemunky warms up with pirate tunage and a Dark&Steamy (Goslings Black Seal and Ginger Tea).
December is upon us and Christmas is in the air. Or rather, on the high seas. Seasonal shanties abound and the rum flows freely! No show on December 13th, but we'll be back on the 20th. Yarrr!!!
Bilgemunky returns from St. Augustine refreshed and ready for rum and pirate tunage. And as a bonus, he has a spare edition of the On Stranger Tides Audiobook to trade with one lucky listener!
Tonight's episode marks the end of Talk Like a Pirate Day Month 2010. But this doesn't mean the party has to stop (although Bilgemunky might be a bit more intelligible for a while.) Also, a special thanks to our long time sponsor ToBeAPirate.com, who's continued support helps keep this show afloat each week. October is almost upon us, so check out ToBeAPirate.com for your piratey halloween needs!
Tonight's show begins September, aka Talk Like a Pirate Day Month. Brace yerselves as Bilgemunky does his level best to talk like a pirate each show, the whole show, for the entire month! Can his throat and his audience survive?
Pirate music and a somewhat sleepy - and therefore not terribly talkative - Bilgemunky. Such is life at times. Yar.
Still recovering from The Port Radisson Pirates Rendezvous, Bilgemunky unleased a barrage of musical pirate awesomeness. And it was good.
Bilgemunky tries a new (wonderful) rum on the air, and then proceeds to play lots and lots of pirate music. Including new Pirates Charles and The Threepwood Pyrates Galley!
Bilgemunky's brought back to life, but is it the same munky, or something new and evil?
Thanks to a technical glitch, tonight's show began with Bilgemunky speaking about 14 octaves below his usual, but this was quickly resolved. Then he played lots of great pirate music, including new songs from The Rum Fellows and Pirates for Sail.
Great pirate music, and a less-than-great performance as Bilgemunky quasi-raps a birthday tune for Lefty Liz.
Loads of great pirate music played for all the working stiffs this Labor Day. And Bilgemunky explores the pirateyness of bourbon.
That's right, a very special episode of Bilgemunky Radio, featuring no (well, almost no) requests from listeners! Is that a good thing? Well, it made Bilgemunky happy, so that's something :) Tonight's show sponsored in part by ToBeAPirate.com.
Aside from our usual pirate awesomeness, on tonight's show Bilgemunky vaguely speculated about astrophysics and how they relate to, well, pirates. Also new music from Mizzen and Musical Blades. Show sponsored by ToBeAPirate.com.
Yet again Bilgemunky is plagued by an onslaught of requests - not that it's a bad thing, mind you. Sponsored by ToBeAPirate.com. Reminder - no show on June 22nd, see you on the 29th!
After three missed weeks (one due to illness, two due to PyrateCon), Bilgemunky Radio has finally returned - and with only a bit of an obnoxious freakin' cough :P Also, an interview with Alestorm!
New music from The Pirates Charles, Willoughby Caught, and The Musical Blades! Tonight's show was sponsored by www.tobeapirate.com.
In his undying quest to save the planet and earn a buck, Bilgemunky has introduced Arrrbon Credits, now available for purchase on Bilgemunky.com. He also played some music. Pirate music.
New Bogg&Salty, Rustmonster, and Captain Dan! Also a special version of Maroon's Birthday Dirge in honor of Bilgemunky's birthday!
New music tonight from Rustmoster, Captain Dan, and Pirate Tales! Plus many of your old favorites, as well as some odd ramblings by Bilgemunky.
Harrr.... it's time for another Pirate Christmas, complete with pirate holdiay tunes, non-holiday tunes, and Bilgemunky drunkenly commenting in between. Yar.
Being December, Bilgemunky has finally started airing pirate sea shanties, albiet sparingly. Tonight's were performed by Captain Dan and the BOOM Pirates. Plus, loads of more great stuff including new Captain Bogg & Salty, Pirates Charles, and Scurvy Pirates!
Several birthday requests tonight, topped off by Bilgemunky's very own version of "The Devil's Son", dedicated to his mate Red Beard. Ears bled, but fun was had nonetheless. Tonight's show also featured new music from the Salt Sea Pirates and The Dreadnoughts.
After a very full weekend of managing the Port Washington Pirate Festival (where the highlight event included the freak show's car getting struck by lightning), Bilgemunky does his very best to stay awake for YOU, our beloved listeners.
That's right - this week's Bilgemunky Radio includes the long-awaited second episode of Bilgemunky Adventures: Sneaky Bastards. Tonight's show also featured new music from Rustmonster, loads of fun news tidbits, and - of course - many pirate and pirate-core favorites.
New pirate artist this week: Cutthroat Shamrock! AND, Bilgemunky.com has finally been updated, including 5 new music reviews. Reminder - no show next week due to PyrateCon.
Aside from loads of great pirate music, tonight's broadcast also featured the long-awaited Bilgemunky Adventures Episode 1: Coffeehouse Blues!
After two weeks of technical difficulties, the live show finally went off without a glitch! Two new bands tonight - The Bone Island Buccaneers, and Pirates for Sail! Also, Bilgemunky waxes poetic about his Taco Bell seasoning.
Bilgemunky Radio was again hit by technical difficulties, forcing Bilgemunky to go off the air and perform a full system restore on his computer (grumble grumble.) But have no fear, podcast listeners - everything's been edited and patched, and you wouldn't even know there had been a problem if we didn't keep talking about it. Tonight's show featured some new stuff from Sharks Come Cruisin' and Peregrine, plus loads of other great pirate tunes!
Marooned, The Seadogs, Captain Dan, Bilge Pumps, AND, a special Bilgemunky Radio exclusive - RUM (and Coca Cola).
Yar, mates! Another great episode of pirate music. PLUS - a teaser of a forthcoming Bilgemunky Radio project!
Still lacking liquid courage and energy alike, Bilgemunky bravely stumbles forward with another exciting episode of the greatest pirate music in the universe! Featuring the latest from Captain Dan, the Musical Blades, and Thyme Awaye. Plus a brand new song from Captain Marty Scapegoat!
With no caffeine and no rum, can Bilgemunky muster the strength to crank out another incredible broadcast of pirate music? Will the surprise interview with Shipwrecked Pirate Music Festival help or hinder his plans? Find out, true believers, on tonight's exciting episode of Bilgemunky Radio!
This episode features the premiere of Bilgemunky's very own song!!!! Also includes an interview with author Helen Hollick, and (of course) loads of great pirate music!
