In this episode of Physics World Stories, host Andrew Glester explores the fascinating hunt for pristine comets – icy bodies that preserve material from the solar system's beginnings and even earlier. Unlike more familiar comets that repeatedly swing close to the Sun and transform, these frozen relics act as time capsules, offering unique insights into our cosmic history. "Interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS is seen in this composite image captured on 6 November 2025 by the Europa Ultraviolet Spectrograph instrument on NASA’s Europa Clipper spacecraft. (Courtesy: NASA/JPL-Caltech/SWRI)"Interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS is seen in this composite image captured on 6 November 2025 by the Europa Ultraviolet Spectrograph instrument on NASA's Europa Clipper spacecraft. (Courtesy: NASA/JPL-Caltech/SWRI) The first guest is Tracy Becker, deputy principal investigator for the Ultraviolet Spectrograph on NASA's Europa Clipper mission. Becker describes how the Jupiter-bound spacecraft recently turned its gaze to 3I/ATLAS, an interstellar visitor that appeared last July. Mission scientists quickly reacted to this unique opportunity, which also enabled them to test the mission’s instruments before it arrives at the icy world of Europa. Michael Küppers then introduces the upcoming Comet Interceptor mission, set for launch in 2029. This joint ESA–JAXA mission will “park” in space until a suitable comet arrives from the outer reaches of the solar system. They will deploy two probes to study it from multiple angles – offering a first-ever close look at material untouched since the solar system's birth. From interstellar wanderers to carefully orchestrated intercepts, this episode blends pioneering missions and cosmic detective work. Keep up to date with all the latest space and astronomy developments in the dedicated section of the Physics World website.

In this episode, I'm joined once again by Avi Loeb, Harvard astrophysicist, head of the Galileo Project, and author of Extraterrestrial and Interstellar. We dive deep into 3I/ATLAS, the third known interstellar object ever detected, and why it has sparked intense scientific interest and public debate. Avi explains the unusual features of this object, including its anti-tail, orbital alignment, and chemical signatures, and why these anomalies deserve serious scrutiny. We also discuss the CIA's “neither confirm nor deny” response to records about 3I/ATLAS, the idea of black swan events, criticism of narrow SETI searches, and why institutional risk-aversion may be holding science back. This conversation explores interstellar visitors, scientific curiosity, stigma, and what discovering extraterrestrial technology would mean for humanity's future.Patreon offer - https://www.patreon.com/thatufopodcast?coupon=4B0B8https://avi-loeb.medium.com/

Stories we were told about history with Interstellar objects behaving in ways we cannot explain, Earth's magnetic field weakening and Sun is becoming volatile seem to mirror patterns we have been warned about for millennia. At the same time, banks, credit agencies, governments and tech platforms are losing control of the systems that define ownership, identity and trust. ☕ Buy a Double Espresso to Support Civilization Cycle Podcast ✨

In this episode of Commit, Jason Ingber sits down with AY Milstein for what starts as a straightforward interview and immediately becomes anything but. Jason asks one simple question, "What do you do for a living?" AY answers and never breaks character. What follows is a long form improv spiral involving solar sales, corn powered energy, questionable FDA approvals, Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, religious identity, trauma, ambition, and the moment an interview quietly turns into a commitment to the bit. This episode blends absurd comedy with unexpectedly honest moments, as AY commits fully and Jason slowly realizes there is no way out but forward. If you enjoy improv, long form chaos, and conversations that refuse to stay on track, this episode delivers.

An interstellar object just cruised into our cosmic neighborhood and—naturally—humanity immediately responded with calm, measured curiosity… by screaming “ALIENS!” into the void. This week on Hysteria 51, we're diving into 3I/ATLAS, the latest confirmed visitor from beyond our solar system. Is it just a dirty, fast-moving comet minding its own business? Or is it something a little more… engineered? We break down what scientists actually know so far, why this thing has the internet acting like it found a Wi-Fi signal in the Kuiper Belt, and what the “completely natural” crowd says (spoiler: they have math and spectra and other buzzkills). Then we do what we do best: lean into the fun. If 3I/ATLAS is under intelligent control—even hypothetically—what does that mean for humanity? First contact? Surveillance? A cosmic prank? Or just a high-speed reminder that we are absolutely not the main character of the universe.Strap in, stare into the sky suspiciously, and remember: “closest approach” doesn't mean “close,” but it does mean the conspiracy machine is about to hit maximum RPM this week on Hysteria 51!Special thanks to this week's research sources:YouTube (video): 3I/ATLAS Is Causing Scientists To Panic.
