Infinity And Beyond With LACHLAN NEATE & ANTHONY WILLIS From VALHALORE

Interview by Kris PetersIn just ten short years Melbourne musical powerhouse Valhalore have entrenched themselves as a vital cog in the growing Australian music industry, their unique blending of melodic death metal with power and symphonic elements - infused with folk influences - has resonated with audiences both domestically and abroad.Over the years they have toured with the likes of Alestorm, Arch Enemy, Blind Guardian and HammerFall, winning over legions of fans along the way with their attitude and work ethic. With the release of their sophomore album Beyond The Stars on April 11, Valhalore look set to expand their presence even more with a sound capable of transcending genres and sweeping all in its path.HEAVY spoke with frontman Lachlan Neate and guitarist Anthony Willis to get more details. We start by asking how they are feeling about the album release."Absolutely thrilled," Neate beamed. "After waiting four years to release this music, it's pretty surreal that we're finally near the finish line."We ask the guys to dive deeper into Beyond The Stars musically."In terms of the themes of the album, it describes a person's journey from the beginning of their life to the end," Willis explained. "Each song deals with the different highs and lows, ups and downs, different emotions that one would experience throughout their life. And each song represents those different moments. Then at the end of the album, the final song really deals with what happens to you after we die, and can we become something greater than ourselves? So in that regard, the album is a bit of a concept album, and it's cyclic. Each of the songs that we have written pertains to this journey of someone's life experiences."In the full interview, Lachlan and Anthony further explained that Beyond The Stars is a concept piece that reflects the emotional journey of a person's life, shaped significantly by the band's experiences during the pandemic. Anthony emphasized the importance of the album's track listing for creating a cohesive listening experience, while Lachlan noted that the writing process involved contributions from all six band members and the producer, marking a shift from their previous solo work. This collaborative effort has allowed the band to develop a unique sound that integrates diverse influences, enhancing their musical identity.Valhalore plan to promote the album with a series of four theatrical shows in May, starting in Sydney and Melbourne, where they will perform most of the new material alongside older songs. Lachlan expressed excitement about the production-heavy nature of the performances, aiming to provide an engaging experience for fans and more.Get Beyond The Stars here: https://valhalore.rpm.link/beyondprBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Interview by Kris PetersWowsers! Behold human pirates of the southern lands, ALESTORM have set their compass this way for their next expedition to the other side of the world to regale us all with their super infectious blend of modern folk and power metal. With their well-renowned A game PARTY prepped and packed, they'll be stuffing the galley full of inflatable ducks, kilts, a hurdy-gurdy player, maybe even a shark, but most importantly, drums upon drums of beer and rum! Bring your mateys, bring your best drinking hat, bring your lungs and let's fire up the biggest shindigs of 2025!!Joining them will be Nekrogoblikon, the self-proclaimed Goblin Metal warlords who are also getting their first taste of Australia. On paper, it seems a mismatch of epic proportions, but when the curtains draw open and the lights go down the only true victor will be music lovers in the crowd.HEAVY spent some time with Alestorm vocalist Chris Bowes to get more of a gauge on what to expect."It's absolute chaos," he smiled when asked what we can expect from Alestorm live. "It's a party. Everyone's gonna be drunk. Watch your head, there's gonna be a lot of crowd surfers - there always is. Oh my God, last night we were playing in France and there was a dude crowd-surfing with just a kilt. And I mean, just a kilt. He was otherwise totally naked. So of course he started crowd-surfing and the kilt was riding up, and he's got ass and balls tea bagging the entire audience as he goes (laughs). You would be sitting there watching the show then all of a sudden you feel these wet balls on your head, and you look up, and you get a face full of ass… And that was the whole show. I just kept watching these people get tea bagged. Hopefully that sort of behaviour won't happen, but anything's possible."In the full interview, Chris runs us through what has changed with Alestorm since they were last out here, explains the stage production and scale of the live set and what delights we will be getting, their reputation as a party band and living up to expectation, the response to last year's EP Voyage Of The Dead Mariner and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Heeding the call for their first odyssey to Australia and handed the highly important task of hyping up the party hungry, NEKROGOBLIKON - the self-proclaimed Kings of Goblin Metal - promise to deliver a unique blend of melodic rock and gnarly death metal, infused with EDM-style flourishes when they arrive here for a run of shows with Alestorm towards the end of February.Fronted by their ostentatious singing goblin hypeman John Goblikon and new screaming vocalist Dickie Allen (Infant Annihilator) the band takes cues from GWAR, Finntroll, and Dethklok, while maintaining a humorous, self-referential style. For those unfamiliar with Nekrogoblikon unfortunately there isn't much HEAVY can do to help you understand the band on a more personal level, but the next best thing is to introduce the faithful and the new to guitarist Alex Alereza who we spoke with over two conversations about three weeks apart…We put Alex straight on the spot by asking how Nekrogoblikon have managed to avoid Australia for so long."It's not on purpose, I promise that," he laughed. "We've been talking about it forever, and it's been something that we tried to make happen. There's been a few times there were tentative plans and then some kind of logistical nightmare occurred or something. Luckily this time we finally… our team was persistent this time (laughs). Like, we have to get you guys out there. It's the perfect way for us to do Australia for the first time, with another like-minded, fun band. I already feel like we'll be coming back more often after this."In the full interview we spoke about the touring dynamics between Nekrogoblikon and Alestorm, what he is expecting from Australian crowds, the importance of keeping music fun, the role of their resident Goblin in everything from the live show to production to recording, the modern sanitized musical climate and where Nekrogoblikon sit in that respect, their musical mish mash of genres and why it works, new music and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

When Luke Ski performed "What's Up, Spock?" at MarsCon 2022 he ended it by joking that he was going to add a new verse about Star Trek: Discovery, then said "No, I can't make that song any longer." Well, I can! So here is an updated version of "What's Up, Spock?" that includes verses for Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks, Prodigy, and Strange New Worlds. This song will be included on a new album of cover songs that I've done over the years, which will include a few new ones such as "It's All About the Pentiums" by "Weird Al" Yankovic using a chiptunes version of the original music, and "Tortuga" by Alestorm featuring pirate rapper Captain Dan. With a little guidance from Loudwire's Dumbest Best Metal Band Names listicle, we decided to take the offramp into the offbeat and investigate the most off-kilter, ODDBALL metal bands with the most outlandish names and over the top aesthetics ever to bless metal.    Whether it's the band's look, their theme, or the simple hilarity of “what's in a name” (including, but not limited to: band name, album name, and/or song name), there's certainly some incredibly wonderful, warped weirdness which dwells along the wild & wacky fringes near the outskirts of mainstream metal.   Get ready to discover the shared sensibilities of ladies and bowling balls and find out who should definitely NOT go swimming during Shark Week (especially if they are “experiencing their own personal shark week”). It's time to get yourself a “vacation rental” and get ready to “put on your Magnum P.I. shirt” and pick up some crabcakes from that “hole in the wall” place further down the beach and JOIN US as we rundown Loudwire's Dumbest Best Metal Band Names listicle and explore some of the most glorious ODDBALL WEIRDNESS in all of metal.   Visit www.metalnerdery.com/podcast for more on this episode Leave us a Voicemail to be played on a future episode: 980-666-8182 Metal Nerdery Tees and Hoodies – metalnerdery.com/merch and kindly leave us a review and/or rating on the iTunes/Apple Podcasts - Spotify or your favorite Podcast app Listen on iTunes, Spotify, Podbean, Google Podcasts or wherever you get your Podcasts. This week things get heated as the guys go through douche rock, gimmick metal, retarded nu metal. Whatever you want to call it you're not wrong. All this to answer the question "Why the fuck do people think pirates are cool?" Can hardy har har's and a swashbuckling dipshit beat a guy trying to be edgy talking about pedophilia while also being a victim and bitch? You get to decide between: Alestorm: Tortuga  vs Korn: Trash

Formerly ‘Heroes of the Bowl', The Half Bowl Histories series takes a look into the history, lore, and legacy of individuals, places, and events of interest that helped shape the world we know today for good and for ill. Here we get a chance to revisit some of the famous pipe smokers we've covered in the past and shift the focus from what they loved to who they were and the complexities of their lives. This week: The InklingsPipe Question:  Good morning gentlemen! I have a pipe question for you. How does (if it actually does) the chamber size and shape affect the burn and smoking characteristics of the tobacco? Blessings, Gabriel RoperListener Feedback: Hey Guys I'm huge fan of the pirate and tobacco series. Nov 3 I was on a cruise to Nassau Bahamas where they have a pirate museum. Which was amazing . As walked around the island I got to learn alot of pirate history while puffing on my cob with captain black. It was amazing. I had downloaded and listened all the pirate ands tobacco episodes on the plane ride. Good job guys can't wait to hear more tells from the sea. - Antwan ButlerWith all the Pirate-themed episodes you are doing I thought you might like to listen to Alestorm, they are a Scottish Pirate Metal band. I recommend Keelhauled and Hangover to start. Not pipe related, but it is pipe adjacent. Thanks for what you do, I love the podcast and really hope to make the pilgrimage one day. A little planning coming from Ireland, but you never know. Cheers - Dwain DunnAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Typhus, scurvy, and dysentery will not stop us - the show must go on. Maladies aside, in this episode we are joined by Tiberius to discuss his song suggestion: Alestorm's 1741 (The Battle of Cartagena). The song (and the album it's taken from ) are inspired by the Golden Age of Piracy. The tune specifically tells the story of the 1741 Battle of Cartagena between the British and the Spanish during The War of Jenkins' Ear (as we all know). Meds rejoice at the victory of the Spanish over their English attackers during the month long siege that ended with over 15,000 casualties on the British side alone. Americans bristle at the cruel treatment by their English overlords during the battle and we learn where George Washington's beloved Mt. Vernon gets its name.
