This week I interview journalist and author Olga Khazan about her new book on personality change, Me, But Better. We talk about the Big Five traits—openness, conscientiousness, extraversion/introversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism—and how they play out in ordinary life rather than in personality quizzes. Olga explains what research actually shows about how much you can change, how anxiety and depression tie into neuroticism, and why introversion can quietly turn into isolation. We also discuss everyone's favorite personality expert, Carl Jung, the politics of “openness,” what's happened to our social lives since the pandemic, and how the culture of “self-care” has blurred into hiding from the world. Other threads include: • The science behind gradual, behavioral change instead of “life hacks” • How “fake it till you make it” can work without faking yourself entirely • Gender differences in agreeableness and the social cost of being direct • Why liberals often score higher on neuroticism—and what that might really mean • The relationship between personality, motherhood, and the urge to optimize everything Guest Bio: Olga Khazan is a staff writer for The Atlantic and the author, previously, of Weird. She is a two-time recipient of journalism fellowships from the International Reporting Project and the winner of the 2017 National Headliner Award for Magazine Online Writing.
On today’s episode, Jason discusses George Springer’s massive home run that helped punch the Toronto Blue Jays’ ticket to the World Series, what he learned about the Detroit Lions in their win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football, the NFC team most likely to make a trade ahead of the upcoming NFL trade deadline, why the Seattle Seahawks should have beaten the Houston Texans by even more than eight points in the MNF nightcap, and the (allegedly) real reason that CJ Stroud has regressed so mightily since his rookie season. #FSR Follow Jason on Twitter and Instagram. Mike Evans and Brandon Stokley with Mark Schlereth kick off the third hour talking about NBA contracts vs NFL contracts. Are the former NFL guys jealous of the big NBA money they’re making now? Dre Greenlaw was seen practicing yesterday, but is it unreasonable to expect him back so soon? What is the ONE thing that Stink believes the Broncos need to fix on offense? The guys get caught up on Stinks' new commercial that everyone will get to see soon. The Broncos offense seems to be out of synch. How can Sean Payton simplify this offense to make it run smoother? After all the poking fun of each other, can the guys regroup for trivia in the next hour?
Mike Evans and Brandon Stokley open the second hour with Mark Schlereth giving a tearful apology to Matt Peart for criticizing him when Peart was playing hurt. The Drive had some criticism for Sean Payton’s decision not to take the bye week this week, but the guys beg to differ. Stink and Stoke explain why the later bye is a good thing. The guys debate the efficacy of white noise for sleep before they dig into some controversial WR’s the Broncos could bring in to help kick start the offense.
Mike Evans and Brandon Stokley with Mark Schlereth open the fourth hour wondering if Sean Payton wants his preseason Super Bowl comments back after the way that his offense looked in London. They discuss the benefits of dumbing down the offense for Bo and all of the young players. They are joined by our ESPN NFL Insider, Dan Orlovsky, to share a funny story about Jeff Saturday before he digs into the Broncos’ issues on offense and the AFC landscape. The guys look at some of the WR’s around the NFL that may be available, including some controversial names, that they may want the Broncos to get... if they want the Broncos to make a move at all. Mike, Stink, and Stoke wrap up today’s show giving an update on the Rockies’ GM search before Mike throws out a trade candidate that has Stoke excited.

Mike, Mark, and Stoke tie a bow on today’s show talking about college football and the perilous road it’s on after the James Franklin firing.
The Jets hit rock bottom! The defense showed up, but the offense was a no-show. Boomer blasted the team for giving Justin Fields a huge deal only to bench his arm, calling his play “embarrassing” and the worst QB performance in Jets history. A fake punt to run out the clock? Total disaster. Even Garrett Wilson's frustration says it all—the Jets are a mess.

What's up Bros? Well it is no longer a mystery why these guys had issues finding love. They all pretty much suck. There is still hope for Jordan, but Joe has shown his true colors and Edmond is more concerned about getting some than finding love. We see the conclusion of the pods and then we head down to Mexico. But not before Patrick gets his heart broken by Kacie who for absolutely no reason, admits shes not attracted to Patrick. This show is wild. We don't even know how to properly predict anything anymore. But we are loving the drama. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
