In the heart of Alabama's lush woodlands, the ancient art of turkey calling comes alive, echoing through the trees and drawing in one of nature's most elusive creatures. Each spring, as the days grow warmer and the forests awaken, hunters take to the fields and forests armed not just with shotguns but with a skill that has been passed down through generations: the ability to mimic the sounds of wild turkeys. Turkey calling is a symphony of sounds that reflects the intricate language of these birds. The “yelp,” a high-pitched call, is perhaps the most recognized. It's used by hens...Article Link

In this latest episode, Alyssa and Nadia have an honest and reflective conversation aboutmother-daughter communication—the challenges, the evolution, and the deep desire for mutual understanding. Alyssa expresses her hope for open communication that lasts into the future, while Nadia shares her struggle with seeking approval and balancing independence. They explore how cultural expectations, personality differences, and life transitions (like going to college or becoming a parent) shape the dynamic between mothers and daughters. The episode also touches on whether amother-daughter retreat could help strengthen relationships, and what it means to truly support one another without judgment.TakeawaysMother-daughter communication is complex and evolves with life stages.Seeking parental approval is natural but can be challenging to navigate as independence grows.Cultural influences and personality differences shape family communication styles.Open conversations can strengthen relationships, but sometimes oversharing can cause anxiety. There's a fine line between offering support and unintentionally making someone feel judged.Different siblings can have completely different communication styles, even within the same household.Life transitions, like college or becoming a parent, can shift how mothers and daughters relate to each other. Some adult children talk to their parents daily, while others rarely check in—there's no “one size fits all.”A mother-daughter retreat could be a way to foster understanding, but timing and willingness matter. The goal isn't to be perfect communicators, but to respect and support each other through all stages of life.Chapters00:09 – The Podcast Hijack: Talking About Mother-Daughter Communication01:00 – Navigating Open Conversations Without Feeling Judged02:42 – Seeking Approval: A Natural Yet Challenging Dynamic04:16 – How Should Parents Support Without Overstepping?06:02 – Oversharing vs. Keeping Boundaries in Family Relationships09:51 – Sibling Communication Styles: How They Differ Within a Family10:46 – Generational Differences in Parent-Child Conversations12:23 – The Future of Mother-Daughter Bonds: Will It Change?13:38 – Could a Mother-Daughter Retreat Strengthen Relationships?15:32 – The Transition from Seeking Parental Input to Self-Trust17:26 – The Balance Between Asking for Help & Learning Independence18:25 – When Do Parents and Children Become “Peers”?

In this episode of Purpose & Profit Podcast, your co-hosts, Carly Berna and Dave Raley, talk about the power of invented holidays and the concept of shared moments that rally people together around a common cause or idea. How do these shared moments across these various invented holidays relate to the for-profit and nonprofit sector and why might it be important to recognize as professionals in the industry? Is there an untapped opportunity there? That's what Carly and Dave are looking to uncover in this episode. They begin by defining what invented holidays are - May the 4th, Talk Like a Pirate Day, No Phone Day, etc. - and dive into brand-specific holidays such as Amazon Prime Day and GivingTuesday, listing the various aspects that make them such a success culturally, as well as from an economic standpoint. They talk about how creating shared moments around the theme of an invented holiday can help unify communities, capitalize on FOMO, and ultimately drive sales and giving among businesses and nonprofits. Later, they'll share practical tips on how you can incorporate invented holidays into your organization. Steps on how to do this include: Mapping out the calendar to see what holidays might be relevant for your organization When to start the ‘celebration' process of the holidays' shared moments, and how long to continue that celebratory process What it might look like to create your own brand-specific holiday based on your specific audience For more information on invented holidays such as GivingTuesday, visit: https://www.imago.consulting/articles/the-power-of-invented-holidays Season Five of the Purpose & Profit Podcast is brought to you by: VIRTUOUS Virtuous is a software company committed to helping nonprofits grow generosity. The first Arab country to sign a peace treaty with the Jewish state was Egypt. Following the Yom Kippur War of 1973, came the Camp David Accords of 1978 which provided both countries with tangible benefits. While the peace has never been warm, it has held. But since October 7, Egypt's behavior has been distressing. What's more, there's now evidence that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has been deceiving Israel for years – allowing weapons and ammunition to flow freely to Hamas through an elaborate network of tunnels under the border between Egypt and Gaza. Helping host Cliff May understand the now-tense relationship between Cairo and Jerusalem are his FDD colleagues Haisam Hassanein and Jonathan Schanzer.
