Eric and Jeff from @ITSTHEREAL came through to talk about the classic film that basically started this whole podcast idea. PAPER SOLDIERS, a 2002 film directed by Dame Dash, written by Charlie Murphy and starring (are you ready you're not ready) Beanie Sigel and Kevin Hart (in his first role), N.O.R.E., Capone, Angie Martinez, Cam'Ron, Jim Jones, Jay-Z (in the best kind of glorified cameo), Memphis Bleek, basically all of the Roc in 2002 and it's incredible. This is the quintessential Bodega Box Office movie and we couldn't have had better guests for it. Check out ItsTheReal at - https://www.itsthereal.com/ On social media @itsthereal And east coast, you gotta go see them at The Roots Picnic in Saturday June 2. Happy New Year!! It’s 2018 so of course we’re kicking off our New Year’s Beautylutions! I’m sharing what I learned from last year’s challenge and how I’m planning to step up my skincare game this year. Of course I’m also sharing my favorite trends from 2018’s fashion forecast and my excitement for Pantone’s Color of the year… Ultraviolet! But first I had to pour one out for 2017 since I didn’t get to put out a year-end episode due to good old fashioned technical difficulties. I’m shouting out some of the amazing pocasts/podcasters (Bri’s Books, Tea with Queen and J, Journey to Launch, The Mariah Report)I met over the last year, those who allowed me to appear on their show (Inside Pop and Bodega Box Office) and sharing love for two podcasters we lost last year, Stevie Ryan of Mentally Ch(ill) and one of my podcasting idols Combat Jack of Loud Speakers Network. I’ve also got a new fashion statement! Sharing my thoughts on Hollywood’s decision to wear all black during award season as an act of #MeToo solidarity. Corrections: Stevie Ryan’s co-host who is now the sole host of Mentally Ch(ill) is Kristen Carney. Gigi Hadid’s brother’s name is Anwar Hadid. Sorry guys! On the fiftieth episode of Deathcakes, which just so happens to land shortly beyond the one year anniversary of the death of Prince, Jay & illy throw back a few and pay tribute(...?) to the fallen icon by watching 1990's "Graffiti Bridge", the oft-maligned and probably better off forgotten sequel to the cult classic that was "Purple Rain". Prince fan and friend of the Network, Ryan Warnberg (Minneapolis native and host of Bodega Box Office), lays down his funky weapon, joins them on the pod and adds his brand of film enthusiasm and a bit of hometown spin to the discussion!
Jay (Deathcakes, I Mini The Fool) makes a trip down to the basement studio and sits in, as illy and Ghost welcome hosts Ryan and Anthony of rap film podcast, Bodega Box Office, in the first of two inter-show crossover 'casts! Listen/Subscribe to Bodega Box Office (facebook.com/bodegaboxoffice) and be sure to stay tuned for the KOTF appearance on their show in part two!
