In this explosive part 2 of “Culturally Inappropriate”, Ern and Iso dive deep into loyalty, betrayal, and passion within the worlds of hip-hop and business.
We're back in the building for Episode 197 of We're All Set Podcast, just a few steps away from that 200 milestone. This episode is a goody as Rich and Free break down all the recent news in the culture. We kick things off by delving into the stark contrast between interrogation room reality and social media myths that often distort our understanding of the pressures faced by individuals in such situations. From there, we catch up on the latest happenings in our lives, discuss our upcoming NFL content plans, and other culture discussions.Of course, we couldn't resist the allure of music. We discuss the leaked calls between Young Thug and Gunna, the betrayal that unfolded, the Bank interview, and the lingering question of whether Thug himself leaked the information. We also delve into the concept of “snitching,” examine Thug's post-jail slump, assess Gunna's polished media strategy, and raise the broader question: is the music industry pushing authenticity out of the culture?Of course we tap into sports and recent Week 1 NFL recap. We discuss the the highly anticipated Cowboys vs. Eagles game. We also explore the cultural significance of Lamar Jackson and the ongoing frustration with the Ravens' coaching. Next, we pause for a moment to dicuss the tragic shooting of Charlie Kirk in public. We provide raw and unfiltered takes on the climate of political violence and its implications for America today. So, tune in, subscribe, and join the ongoing conversation. The comments section remains open for your thoughts and insights.

On this special episode of "Hip Hop What Ifs," D and 12 Kyle are honored to have special guest E. Green from the Hip Hop Digest Show. This episode, the trio discusses the pivotal question: "What if Dame Dash and Jay Z had maintained their partnership longer?" The conversation explores how Roc-A-Fella Records' dynamics could have transformed the genre if certain decisions took different turns. In this lively discourse, listeners gain insight into Rockefeller Records' inception in the mid-1990s, the personalities involved, and the cultural impact. From initial skepticism about Jay Z's potential impact to the divergent personalities of Dame Dash and Jay Z, E. Green offers a rich narrative on how these foundational elements set the stage for both success and eventual split. The discussion also touches upon influential movements within hip hop, the individual destinies of artists associated with Roc-A-Fella, and how these narratives symbolize broader trends in the music industry. SaVon and Alex kick off with personal stories about summer burnout, traffic woes, and the luxury (and limitations) of car AC. They then dig into a viral tweet that reshaped how they view their creative identity (6:00) before breaking down how DEI rollbacks have dried up podcast ad money and shifted the media landscape (12:42). From there, they react to Diddy being denied bond while awaiting sentencing (23:42), discuss the downfall of Salt Bae, and revisit Dame Dash's legacy—asking whether pride cost him long-term sustainability (38:10). Next, they speak on Bobbi Althoff announcing the end of her podcast and question if her platform was ever built to last (45:32), then tackle the randomness of Gillie vs. Johnny Manziel (55:06) and Nicki Minaj vs. Dez Bryant (1:01:05). They close with a review of Metro Boomin's 'A Futuristic Summa' and what it says about regionalism in Hip-Hop (1:09:45), Bas' latest project and the state of his relationship with Dreamville (1:26:05), and much more! In this episode, we sit down with Ron Morrett, a former tech mogul who once lived a jaw-dropping, "Wolf of Wall Street"-style life—complete with private jets, Super Bowl parties, celebrity connections, drug-fueled excess, and even a six-figure drug dealer on payroll. From managing Lil Wayne's team to running Dame Dash's companies and partying with Hugh Hefner's crowd, Ron's ego-driven rise was matched only by his dramatic fall, culminating in federal prison time after alleged bribes to government officials. But his story doesn't end there. After hitting rock bottom and facing depression and poor health, Ron turned his life around—cutting sugar and carbs, discovering the powerful mineral resin Shilajit, and diving headfirst into a holistic lifestyle. That journey sparked a spiritual awakening, leading to friendships with breatharians, qigong masters, and frequency healers. Now the founder of Shilajam 25, a festival born from his transformation, Ron shares the wild highs, dark lows, and powerful lessons behind his path from millionaire madness to mineral-based mindfulness. We begin today's episode by going track-by-track through the latter half of Aaliyah's self-titled album and thank the lawd for that because the rest of this episode is a tough one - we have come to August 25, 2001; the day Aaliyah died. Many listeners requested a deep dive on this rather than an overview, so here we go. I discuss her final days, relationship with Dame Dash, the background on how and why the plane ended up crashing, conspiracy theories, reactions from fans/friends/celebrities, the other people who were on the plane, her funeral, and so much more. This is one of my most heavily researched and time consuming episodes and I hope you feel I handled this difficult topic well. PATREON Subscribers heard this episode completely ad-free! "The fact that these artists are getting their flowers, getting a chance to perform on this stage, these black artists..If it wasn't for Jay-Z, this wouldn't be happening. So how can you come down and criticize this man like that? it's beyond me." Steve Stoute sounds off on the recent Super Bowl Halftime controversry. Steve Stoute is the ultimate American success story. He's worn a lot of hats—author, entrepreneur, ad exec, and most notoriously, a music mogul. For nearly three decades, he's played a pivotal role at some of the biggest music labels from Interscope, Geffen, and Sony, to working with massive names like U2 and Eminem. Ultimately he's helped shape not just hip-hop, but today's music culture as a whole and continues to find ways to bridge the gap with culture, sports, music and global reach. In this episode, in partnership with Fanatics, Stoute takes us on a wild ride through his experiences in music, advertising, and business and how valuing relationships fueled his journey to the top. We had to start the conversation off and get right to it- With loud buzz around Kendrick Lamar being announced as this year's Super Bowl Half-time Act... controversy continues to swirl around the choice and blame being put towards Jay Z, who is on of Stoute's closest friends and business confidants. Jay, who's been a major part of choosing the NFL's biggest act of the year, is taking heat for selecting Kendrick over the hometown star and fan favorite Lil Wayne to headline New Orleans Super Bowl. Steve is blown away by the negativity towards Jay's choice, confused why people aren't celebrating that Jay has made such strides for culture to be apart of a big event vs making it personal as football and music fans alike are split, and even some big-name artists, like Nicki Minaj, have weighed in with their grievances. Stoute delves into this topic with Ryan, Fred, and Chan, sharing the inside scoop on how the decision really went down, what he thinks of the backlash, and who was originally asked to perform! Ryan understands this Super Bowl controversy has caused a lot of backlash and ugliness from different areas of the industry but RC says this isn't nearly the black eye to culture that the continuous fall of P Diddy has stirred up, as more allegations are revealed and Diddy's recent arrest landed him in jail without bail. Knowing Diddy for a long time, the guys ask Stoute to honestly speak to it all, especially the fallout and if he ever saw any signs or this coming…. The conversation shifts to where things are heading with music, sports, culture and owning media rights as well as creation of platforms controlling the space vs the old days where networks and big companies dictated the industry. While Stoute started in an era where artists were burning their own records and signing deals with record labels to get noticed, he speaks to how the landscape has completely shifted. With social media, consumers can find an artist's music without them needing a label-- and he thinks this transition is beneficial. He's all about artists owning their craft and not "selling their souls" to big companies which is what led him to start UnitedMasters, to help creators keep control of their music, name, and likeness. Fred asks him about the recent Dame Dash situation with and how he sees it all playing out. Stoute's family roots and emphasis on relationships has always played a part in his work ethic and drive to make money. Steve breaks down the lessons he learned in the early days of his career and how he was able to navigate big moves, taking chances and never settling for anything less than his goals. The guys soak up the knowledge from Steve as he breaks down the music industry's inner workings, connect music with sports, providing a front-row seat to the conversations shaping culture and give a better understanding of how key relationships have paved the way for so many to experience a new wave of success at any level. TGIF! Fresh off our Detroit show, on our way to our Chicago show, we dive deep into our marketing bag and ask the question - what is it about Beyonce's lifestyle products that keep them from selling successfully (03:50)? She launched a new whisky brand and guess which staff member is the most eager to try it? Speaking of marketing - has Sexyy Red taken it too far with her lipgloss launch and the raunchy names (34:34)? Mal thinks she'll outgrow it soon. and this leads to a conversation about growing older with an artist and connecting through music over time (46:02). SiriusXM through a BAG to Alex Cooper, the host of 'Call Her Daddy' , and we quickly give some info as to how Barstool sports helped get her there (1:01:16). We give you an update on Dame Dash's auction, and what he's now including in the deal (1:07:47). We have voicemails! The first one is just a fan letting us know we got her caught up (are you drinking soy milk? stop, if so) (1:19:20) and the second one is about a man who is sleeping with his playdate parent (1:36:27).For MORE Rory & Mal, make sure you subscribe to our Patreon community, for exclusive episodes, first access to tickets and merch sales, private live chats with the team, + more! https://www.patreon.com/newrorynmalFollow Rory: @ThisIsRoryFollow MAL: @MAL_ByTheWayFollow Demaris: @DemarisAGiscombeFollow Julian: @Julian__nicholas To watch the podcast on YouTube: https://bit.ly/NewRoryAndMALYouTube Don't forget to follow the podcast for free wherever you're listening or by using this link: https://bit.ly/NewRoryAndMAL Learn more about your ad choices. Happy Friday gang! The gang went outside last night, and came in hungover with stories and unhashed resentments over more music debates. Julian has a hot take that Nas is overrated and it causes quite the stir in the room (08:31). LL Cool J has a hot take of his own: his ‘Mount Rushmore' of Def Jam, and the boys give their own (23:04). Lil Yachty is back in the blogs for admitting that he took a back road on getting his sampled song out to the world against the original artists' wishes (32:27). We also discuss his admission that he recently heard ‘The Black Album' for the first time, and this turns into a conversation about just how much the new generation owes to the culture (45:05). It's official: Dame Dash's ownership in Reasonable Doubt will be auctioned off (56:09), and also official, Mal has ADHD. Mal being neurodivergent doesn't stop him from catching a political stray from a fellow podcaster, and we discuss the history of politics in hip-hop (1:04:45). Cardi B is having a baby and getting rid of her husband, and we predict that this will once again push her album back, causing Demaris and Mal to have a small disagreement about what artists owe casual fans (1:17:23). We have a voicemail from a fan asking for relationship advice for his voyeuristic girlfriend (1:37:21), and also take time to commiserate about how being a podcaster can make dating difficult (1:45:46).For MORE Rory & Mal, make sure you subscribe to our Patreon community, for exclusive episodes, first access to tickets and merch sales, private live chats with the team, + more! https://www.patreon.com/newrorynmalFollow Rory: @ThisIsRoryFollow MAL: @MAL_ByTheWayFollow Demaris: @DemarisAGiscombeFollow Julian: @Julian__nicholas To watch the podcast on YouTube: https://bit.ly/NewRoryAndMALYouTube Don't forget to follow the podcast for free wherever you're listening or by using this link: https://bit.ly/NewRoryAndMAL Learn more about your ad choices.
