Rapping phenomenon and Tottenham Hotspur superfan AJ Tracey joins us this week to talk about supporting his mum through her cancer journey, the pressures of staying an independent artist and what football has taught him about failure. AJ Tracey has been rapping since the age of four. He dropped out of his Criminology degree at London Metropolitan University and started uploading tracks to SoundCloud in 2011, achieving five Platinum singles and over two billion Spotify plays as an independent artist. His first studio album debuted at number three in the UK Albums chart and his breakthrough hit, Ladbroke Grove, became the unofficial summer anthem of 2019. Now, after a three-year hiatus, marked by leaked songs and pandemic delays, Tracey has just released his third album, Don't Die Before You're Dead. It's his most vulnerable and personal work yet and as well as being a love letter to the UK, the album fuses grime, garage, and R&B with themes of trauma, mental health, faith and love. Welcome to That 80s Show, where it always tastes like Mello-Yello and Live Aid 40 is going to make sure every day is Christmas.Paulo watched a little-known 80s Rom-Com, but it raised some awkward questions about what turns a demon on.There is only one person who would be offended by being compared to John Stamos, and we find out about the poor tour guide who came across him.We have a Michael Bolton health update, and Dori is going to spend all the money in her BoB T account trying to get Corey Haim's phone number.Jump to: Live Aid Musical "Just for One Day" (00:04:05)Plot Overview of "My Demon Lover" (00:09:41):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCiwZzPcMXwScott Valentine (19:55): https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0884306/mediaviewer/rm3464153088/?ref_=nm_ph_1Mistaken Identity: John Stamos (21:10): https://people.com/rob-lowe-calls-out-tour-bus-driver-who-mistakes-him-for-john-stamos-11717742Podcast on Full House (24:30): https://www.cracked.com/article_46377_full-house-child-actors-fielded-gross-questions-about-uncle-jesse-from-adult-interviewers.htmlMichael Bolton's Health Update (27:15): https://people.com/michael-bolton-breaks-silence-glioblastoma-brain-cancer-diagnosis-first-interview-exclusive-11724330Corey Haim and Corey Feldman Hotline (32:00): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7HrRRAXAjs&t=30s

In this episode of "Hip Hop What Ifs," hosted by D and 12Kyle, the discussion turns to the question, "What if Lauryn Hill had continued her rap career?" They delve into the impactful yet complex legacy of Lauryn Hill in the hip-hop world. As they explore the trajectory of Hill's career, from her groundbreaking work with the Fugees to her transformative solo album "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," listeners are invited to consider how Hill's choices might have reshaped the landscape of female rap. The episode navigates through Lauryn Hill's rise in the music industry, touching on key moments like the Fugees' success with their album "The Score," and Hill's departure from music to focus on personal life. With in-depth analysis, the hosts ponder the potential influence Hill could have wielded in contemporary hip-hop, drawing parallels to artists like Foxy Brown, Lil' Kim, and later figures such as Rapsody. They also entertain the idea of Hill making a comeback and what that would mean in today's musical context. Ultimately, this engaging dialogue highlights Hill's enduring influence and the hypothetical shift she could have sparked in women's rap music. In this episode, Akeem shares the untold moments behind his rise: ⚉ The power of storytelling ⚉ First taste of entrepreneurship and failure ⚉ From pivotal failures to taking the leap ⚉ Building Flipstik from scratch ⚉ Facing doubts and family fears ⚉ Shark Tank rejection ⚉ Rapping for investor ⚉ The Plot Twist: From rap pitch to meeting P. Diddy and Snoop Dogg ⚉ Why the story matters more than the product ⚉ Success isn't always about the money ⚉ Performing under pressure ⚉ Sales is storytelling ⚉ Use-case: The product's impact to the deaf community ⚉ What is the next level of brand growth ⚉ What is the One-Thing Rule ⚉ Why you need the right mentor for you After losing his college scholarship, Akeem was forced to find work for $10 an hour at a local cell phone shop. After an accomplished sales career, Akeem chose to pursue his dream of entrepreneurship. He struggled at first but eventually scaled his company Flipsitk from a single mall kiosk to an Inc Magazine Top 50 Fastest Growing Consumer Brand. With the help of celebrities like Snoop Dogg, appearances on Shark Tank and The Today Show, and distribution in 3000 retailers including Target, Best Buy, and AT&T, Akeem has now made customers out of 1 million consumers. Akeem's stories have entertained and inspired on the stages of South By South West (SXSW), the Consumer Electronic Show (CES), Fast Company, Bank of America, the Smithsonian, and many more. What an incredible conversation I had with Logan Castleton, the Rapping Missionary for episode 189! As someone who has faced significant health challenges from birth, Logan's story of resilience, faith, and using his unique talents to further God's work is truly inspiring. Logan shared how he was born with a rare heart condition and has undergone numerous surgeries, yet he never let that stop him from pursuing his passion for music. When he felt impressed to serve a service mission, Logan didn't let the stigma or misconceptions about service missions hold him back. Instead, he boldly followed the inspiration he received to use his gift of music, including rapping, to uplift and minister to others. Logan's insights on adapting to challenges, finding purpose in adversity, and trusting in God's guidance are so valuable for any missionary, whether serving a proselyting or service mission. I'm deeply grateful Logan was willing to vulnerably share his story and the lessons he's learned. I know his example will encourage and uplift so many in the LDS mission community. Elder Logan Castleton is a service missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He started as a Proselyting missionary and then transferred to be a service missionary. Between writing rap as the Rapping Missionary and writing piano arrangements, he finds joy in his service. He will finish his mission in the summer. As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review. I know this work will help LDS missionaries around the world and it would mean so much to me if you did. Until next week my friends.
