For more than a decade, a life-affirming spell seems to enchant every audience the band plays to. It's why THE STRIKE have been booked for weeks-long residencies from Dubai (at the behest of music legend Quincy Jones) to China (at the massive Qingdao Beer Festival). Back home, they have an appeal that's lured some fans to travel across continents to see them, and others to get Strike-themed tattoos. Music supervisors have followed in kind, using their songs on Dancing With the Stars, America's Got Talent, and Netflix's To All The Boys I've Loved Before. Which is to say: If the name The Strike doesn't ring a bell, there's a good chance you've actually heard their music.None of this good fortune is lost on the L.A.-based group, which also includes drummer Jay Tibbitts and singer Chris Crabb. And this is why their third album, A Dream Through Open Eyes (out October 4th, Nettwerk), was created with the goal of capturing this phenomenon of intoxicating folks wherever they go. Alt-pop band The Strike have announced their forthcoming third studio album arriving in October. Known for their electric live performances and nostalgic 80's influenced anthems, the band has set out to capture that unmatched energy across 11 tracks, including previous releases "Soundtrack," “The Getaway,” and “Just Friends.” We sat down with frontman Chris Crabb to chat about their beginnings as a wedding band in Utah, opening for Journey, and how they managed to replicate the energy of their shows on the record. Every year Holiday Ale Festival brings a new line-up of boundary pushing flavors. This year is no different, as our returning guest Chris Crabb contests, and bearing an exclusive tasting of two of the more exotic brews boasted at the 24th annual selection, for us to taste at UnTapped Fill House. With a veritable cornacopia of 49 delicious delights, and special mentions for Trapdoor's nut tree, Eel River's seltzer, Von Ebert's black lager, and a collab beer by Ecliptic and Russian River, a barrel aged hoppy Belgian Golden. Plus, Beau is back with December events to help you with your holiday cheer. Ryan is clearly confused by a blonde stout from Crux, Bronwyn eagerly awaits a new show stopper by Three Mugs Brewing, Damian is intrigued by a complex sour by crooked stave, and John blows the keg on a seasonal CDA. Bodacious brunches, Vertical B-Bombs, and mistletoe fetishes on this episode of Brew Happy!
Welcome back to Starting Point with Casey Jennings. We hope you've enjoyed the show so far. With school back in session and the summer drawing to a close, we are going to take a short break to regroup, plan our next series of 8 episodes, and work on delivering an even more compelling and polished product for our listeners. So far you've heard from Olympic gold medalists including Natalie Cook and Eric Fonoi, learned what it's like to be a transgender child in today's world, peered into the mind of Jake Gibb, and been touched by Chris Crabb's stories of fatherhood and resiliency. We look forward to continuing this Starting Point journey with you and will see you in October.
Welcome to Starting Point with Casey Jennings. In this show, you will hear stories centered around childhood, upbringing, adolescence, parenthood, and the pivotal moments and influential people that shaped the life-trajectories of our guests. In our first episode, Casey sits down with Hawaiian volleyball legend and father of four, Chris Crabb, to talk about childhood, fatherhood, resiliency, and what it takes to endure the inevitable storms of life. We get a glimpse into Chris' early days and also get to hear about the diplomacy required when raising two competitive, Olympic-hopeful sons. Enjoy this conversation with Chris and thank you for listening to Starting Point with Casey Jennings.
Cider Summit is upon us! Event wrangler, Chris Crabb joins us to talk about Cider Summit with Jeff Parrish from Portland Cider as we meet in NW Portland at New West Cider and Sasquatch Brewing's with Ryan Nicolai. Cider Summit has a phenolically phenomenal time in store for cider fans coming up this week for this year's dog friendly event. We are enlightened to discuss some of the technical processes, regulations, politics, and other elements of cider making, and later we reveal some of the dry and sweet treats that await consumers at this year's event, including a tasting for us to share with you. Damian throws in with some JDubs out of Florida, Ryan gets to nerd out, and John enjoys a delicious change of pace. Tropically terrific theories, Arnold Palmers, sweet reveals, and other fantastic flavors on this episode of Brew Happy!

One of our bestestest of friends, Chris Crabb, comes on to talk with us about the upcoming Oregon Brewers Festival. This is about as big as beer fests get and Chris knows her festivals. Always a treat. And... Marcus jumps into Jenny's chair as we may talk about Jenny's gall bladder, police ride alongs, Comic Con, Star Wars, Key Lime Pie Oreos, Bill Murray cleans up, Marisa Tomei, Spy, Insurgent, Ted 2, Harry Shearer, Our new European friends Vanderlinde, and so much more.
If you've ever noticed, we've had some pretty amazing guests from Portland's beer scene. This wouldn't have happened without some help. Growler Magazine called her "Oregon's Beer Sweetheart", and she is all that and more. We were fortunate enough to sit down with Chris Crabb today to talk beer, family, and share a few laughs. She also takes behind the scenes of the upcoming Oregon Brewer's Fest. Also... Pot goes live in Washington, Yellowstone road is melting, Leave our Grand Canyon alone, Don't mess with bulls, Farts cure cancer, Welcome to Sweden is perty good, and go support the Portland AIDS Walk. Show Beer was Green Flash's Imperial IPA. Pre-Show Beer was Hair of the Dog's Adam. A great big thanks to Chris Crabb, Mainbrew, Oregon Public House, ABV Taphouse, and all your support.
