In this episode, we dive into the heated debate surrounding Montrose County Manager Frank Rodriguez and the hiring of Public Health Director Mirza Ahmed. Residents packed Wednesday’s meeting room, with some defending Rodriguez and Ahmed against what they called politically motivated attacks, while others questioned transparency around Ahmed’s qualifications. The controversy has fueled division, with accusations of discrimination, backtracking by commissioners, and concerns over county leadership. Then, we switch gears to something everyone can agree on—beer! The Black Canyon Homebrewers Association is bringing back Montrose’s biggest St. Patrick’s Day celebration. We’ll break down everything you need to know about the Parade and Brewfest happening this Saturday, March 15th.Support the show: https://www.montrosepress.com/site/forms/subscription_services/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This episode finds us hitting the home stretch of Black History Month, which means it's time to get moving and support Milwaukee's Black-owned restaurants (something we should do year-round). Ann gave us all a helping hand by putting together a sizable list for Milwaukee Magazine that includes everything from soul food to barbecue and Ethiopian to Jamaican.Toward the end of the podcast, we also highlight a pair of cookbooks from Black women that literally span more than a century: a new edition of Malinda Russell's A Domestic Cookbook (first published in 1866) and a compilation of Gullah Geechee recipes collected by Emily Meggett, who was 89 when the book came out in 2022.In other culinary news from around Milwaukee:The mad scientists at Discourse are serving up real ants on a log right downstairs from where I'm writing this at Radio Milwaukee.Milwaukee Public Market will hold a very rhyme-y Soup, Stew & Brew Fest on March 5.Dan Jacobs and Dan Van Rite will again welcome a bunch of their famous chef buddies for a collaborative dinner series at Dandan and EsterEv.Fuel Cafe officially hit empty after aprubtly announcing its permanent closing Sunday.Milwaukee's oldest Black biker bar has shifted gears and will soon become Cajun Soul MKE.

Lots of fun at this weekend's Brewfest. We recap a pretty amazing Royal Rumble. A kid spreads cheer with farts. A bear was hiding in the attic to survive the California fires. Plus so much more on a Mondee!
Host Richie Tevlin chats with Jeff Norman, founder of the Kennett Brewfest, a celebrated event now in its 28th year and accompanied by the Winterfest for 13 years. Recognized as one of the oldest beer festivals on the East Coast, the Brewfest has established itself as a cornerstone of the craft beer community. Jeff discusses how all event proceeds benefit the Kennett Collaborative, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the growth and vitality of Kennett Square. Happy New Year! Let's start 2025 off BIG. Sailfish Brewing is easily the largest brewery in St. Lucie County, possibly the entire Treasure Coast. There are a few others that may hold claim to that, but Sailfish has been doing quite well for themselves in their downtown Ft. Pierce home. We sat down with President and Co-Founder of Sailfish Brewing, David BuShea, and longtime friend of the podcast and Sailfish Sales Manager, Brian Tonnessen, to talk about their humble beginnings in the yellow house and bringing craft beer to Ft. For the Florida Beer Podcast, North Miami Brewfest is the gift that keeps on giving with amazing breweries celebrating beer and the south Florida beer scene every year. Our gracious hosts once again are the Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Florida International University, as they put this festival on every year. We start this episode with Chef John Noble Massey, head chef of the ultra-exclusive and frankly amazing looking FIU Bistro on the FIU/Chaplin School's Biscayne Bay campus. From there we speak to Carrie from soon to open Scarab Brewing, who's Golden Stout was a particular hit of my entire team. Unseen Creatures has just announced a merger with Prison Pals, so we spoke once again to Prison Pals' Brewmaster Diego Setti, along with Joaquin Lozano and Nacho, the new owners of Unseen Creatures about what this partnership is going to look like. From there we touch base with Rudy and Ricardo from Rocketeer Beer, the winners of both last year and this year's Best Beer at the event, with an update on their soon-to-open Kendall brewery. We finish up with co-founders Michael and Carlos from Lemondade Hard Seltzer, an amazing seltzer that also won third place for the beer competition and their incredible seltzers. Listen in... I do enjoy a good beer fest. Happily, I was able to enjoy a good beer fest and one that I had not been to before! And while Champions Beerfest has been on the Florida Beer Podcast before, that was pre-COVID and, unfortunately, I never got the chance to attend. But, it was back--in a new home at Mardi Gras Casino in Hallandale Beach. I spoke with organizer Jim Hammett and host Virginia Sinicki of 97.9 WRMF's KVJ show about the festival, brands represented, and their beneficiary Little Smiles (LittleSmilesFL.org). From there, I chatted a bit with Lorenzo Borghese, founder of South Beach Brewing, Chris Hall of Noxx and Dunn Florida Rum, and Amyad Amra of Two Drums Florida Rum Cocktail, all of which were happy to provide a little insight into their brands and how they are able to spread a little Florida sunshine through their products. On today's episode, we are doing two interviews at once! Wicked Dolphin has, in the past, made special collaboration series with breweries around the state of Florida. Their current partnership is with Ft. Myers Brewing, who is currently aging a beer in a Wicked Dolphin barrel. But that's not really where the partnership ends, as they both have had similar starts, hiccups, and factors in play in their southwest Florida homes of Ft. Myers and (for Wicked Dolphin) Cape Coral. In this spirit (no pun intended), we sat down with Jen Whyte and TJ Jewell from Ft. Myers Brewing and Joseph Termini from Wicked Dolphin about opening and crafting a following in Lee County, marketing and creating a destination for locals and visitors to come to, and being a trailblazer for the growing craft beer and spirits scene in the area. Together, we can help to do more than just keep people afloat. We can help them find their footing back on dry land.We also discuss finding joy in an increasingly bitter world, maturity in the beer-drinking world, and HELPING STEVE PASS OUT FLYERS.By the way, there are shirts available for pre-order, but that pre-order ends Friday, August 23, so order now at give.albieaware.org. What was your weekend?
Episode 11 – Up All Night Show Notes Welcome to Episode 11! – 3:25 (10:00 pm) The goal of this episode was to throw age to the wind and unwisely pull an all-nighter enjoying the final days of Dragonflight and recording an episode. The segments of the show are broken up by hours in the all-nighter! Stick around to find out how it goes. July News – 7:43 (11:00 pm) Midsummer Fire Festival – I did lots of levelling and proved that the new bad luck protection system works perfectly fine by getting the Fire Festival Drake armor on my very first attempt. Sorry Jason from the Starting Zone. Thanks Blizz, but remember me again at Brewfest. Pre-patch for The War Within, the tenth expansion, launches this Tuesday (today)! Long maintenance is a guarantee. Be patient. Remember two things. First, the pre-patch event for 11.0 is called the Radiant Echoes and it DOES NOT LAUNCH on Tuesday. Second, Warbands launch when you log in and creating yours will take time on your first login. Preview of pre-patch – Really, the only other news worth mentioning at this moment is the rest of the pre-patch. Wowhead article: https://www.wowhead.com/guide/the-war-within/pre-patch-overview All DF raids and world bosses become awakened Skyriding is available Cross-realm guilds are available Leveling requirements reduced, especially from 60 to 70 End of Dragonflight – 31:32 (12:00 am) End of expac checklist. What's yours? Mine is being pieced together as we chat Thoughts on Renown - felt like a big burden and tell me how it is different from reputations, Derek Zoolander. If I make a Blue Steel joke in the show notes, does it ever get read? WoD and DF similarities based on comments by Denathar on his podcast Azeroth United – 2 expansions when developers were looking ahead to a game-changing next expansion, one more successful than the other Follower dungeons – all benefit, no downside, which means…wait for it…#giveusFollowerRaids TWW Topics – 52:40 (1:00 am) Really just a rant about Pathfinder and support for “Steady Flying” Delve Testing and Preview 1:01:54 (2:00 am) Playing beta characters is tough Hanging with Brann as your support Delves are a bit of a puzzle, a series of quests, objectives, etc. as we have seen in instanced scenarios/activities before, but maybe the best version of its predecessors Has some Torghast like power-ups here and there. Brann suggests pausing to sit by the fire after combat to hear and get you well fed. There are boxes and chests with helpful gear and respawn points. Boss at the end with a treasure room full of rewards Hearing voices and then a Remix update – 1:12:01 (3:00 am) Wait, did we make it? Man, it felt good to buy out the mount vendor! Also, I didn't mind running groups in MoP Remix because there is literally no interactions with others and no challenge to the content, virtually at any level. Raid of the Month: Mogu-Shan Vaults – 1:22:12 (4:00 am) The primary drop is the Astral Cloud Serpent mount, one of my faves and a previous target of mine. Lorewalker Cho and some slow to come to life bosses make this a slow farm, but the mount is great if you didn't get it in MoP Remix. And in Remix, there is an amazing golden version called the Astral Emperor's Serpent. Go get it! Final thoughts on Dragon Flight and the direction of WoW – 1:34:10 (5:00 am – close to dawn of a different day) DF saved WoW as Blizzard pulled itself out of a terrible place; Blizzcon 2023 ended my debate over whether to continue with the game and it resurrected Solo Queue because of the three pillars: Delves, Warbands, and Follower Dungeons. Dragon Flight brought the story of WoW back to Azeroth and the familiar after the Shadowlands. Follower Dungeons might be one of the few features launched in WoW to have no real negative reaction, benefits for solo players, and even benefits for group players. Extend that Follower Dungeon tech to a Raid setting. Coming solo features remind me of Mage Tower in Legion, my single proudest moment (beating the Feral Druid challenge). Idea of adding a small level of challenge to old dungeon/raid farming, but not before Follower Raids! Lastly, Warbands, the big change that arrives with pre-patch. Denathar of Azeroth United said this is the shift from a game that recognizes what the character accomplishes to a game that recognizes what the player accomplishes. 61 characters will be in my Warband soon, all sharing their loot. DF brought WoW back and the future looks great! Outro – 1:48:20 (Sunrise!) Thanks to Blizzard and OGRE for audio, my lovely wife, and you for listening.
