I finally made it! After much reminding by head brewer and friend of the podcast Manny Jannes, I have finally made it to Deerfield Beach's first brewery--Cove Brewery! Nestled in The Cove shopping plaza, they have a fantastic lineup of beers, a comfortably inviting beachy tap room, and a location 10 (or so) minutes from the beach. We spoke to Manny and brewer Tyler Immell about their shared experience in South Florida's craft beer scene, Manny's time as Head Brewer at Cove, and creating a craft beer brand in Deerfield Beach. Bonita Springs isn't quite as sleepy as it used to be. It's also cultivating a small but mighty beer scene, helped out by yearly events like the Bonita Brew Fest. This year's event took place at Riverside Park, right in downtown Bonita Springs and pretty close to my favorite Everglades Wonder Gardens. It's also sponsored by the Southwest Florida Brew Crafters, and we start today's episode speaking to  John Newman, president of the Brew Crafters to learn more about the organization, the event, and the SWFL beer scene in general.  From there, we will also be chatting with the CEO of the newly-opened Swamp Cat Brewing, Chris Gutirrez, Bill Vaughn and his new Kaleidoscope Brewing, Coastal Dayz Brewing owner Alex Tatko, Point Ybel Brewing owner Jordan Weisberg, and Scotty's Bierwerks Head Brewer Max Maldorf. Together, they discussed the busy summer season coming up with events and an expected influx of tourism. Waugh chats about how they handle large events like Brew Fest and the 4th of July festivities. Both also noted a desire from the community, and law enforcement alike, for extra LPD patrolling on Main Street this summer. Some of those efforts have already been established by Waugh's officers. I do enjoy a good beer fest. Happily, I was able to enjoy a good beer fest and one that I had not been to before! And while Champions Beerfest has been on the Florida Beer Podcast before, that was pre-COVID and, unfortunately, I never got the chance to attend. But, it was back--in a new home at Mardi Gras Casino in Hallandale Beach. I spoke with organizer Jim Hammett and host Virginia Sinicki of 97.9 WRMF's KVJ show about the festival, brands represented, and their beneficiary Little Smiles (LittleSmilesFL.org). From there, I chatted a bit with Lorenzo Borghese, founder of South Beach Brewing, Chris Hall of Noxx and Dunn Florida Rum, and Amyad Amra of Two Drums Florida Rum Cocktail, all of which were happy to provide a little insight into their brands and how they are able to spread a little Florida sunshine through their products.
