In *Dias v. Boone*, the court reversed a lower court's decision granting Abby Boone equitable caregiver status over Michelle Dias’s child, ruling the law didn’t apply as Boone’s relationship with the child predated the law. While the justices questioned the law’s constitutionality regarding parental rights, they did not strike it down, instead issuing a narrow ruling specific to this case. STORY 2: Man Charged With Murder After Shooting at Cherokee County Home A man, David Daniel, 44, has been arrested and charged with murder after Michael Kyle Reid, 42, was found dead from a gunshot wound in a carport on North Lake Drive near Canton on Monday night. Deputies responded to the scene around 10:22 p.m., where Daniel, the boyfriend of the homeowner, was present alongside Reid, an acquaintance of both. A firearm was recovered at the scene. Daniel is being held without bond at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center as the investigation continues. STORY 3: DeJoy Delivers Exit Notice to USPS After Five Years Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced plans to step down after five years leading the U.S. Postal Service (USPS). The USPS Board of Governors will begin searching for his successor. DeJoy, whose tenure was marked by controversy, implemented modernization efforts to cut costs by $4 billion annually and increase revenue by $5 billion. Despite these changes, USPS expects a $6.9 billion net loss in fiscal year 2025. DeJoy praised the 640,000 USPS employees for their resilience amid challenges and highlighted ongoing efforts to improve service standards and competitiveness. Available exemptions include the standard homestead exemption, which reduces assessed home values for county and school taxes, and a floating homestead exemption that freezes property values for county taxes. Seniors 62+ with a valid homestead exemption for five years now qualify for a 100% school tax exemption, per Senate Bill 388. Additionally, House Bill 581 introduces a statewide floating homestead exemption for fire district and city taxes. Residents are encouraged to apply to reduce their tax burden. STORY 5: Peach Cobbler Factory Opening in Woodstock This Spring The Peach Cobbler Factory is opening a new location in Woodstock this spring at 1426 Towne Lake Parkway, Suite 104, in the Towne Lake Center. Operated by local residents Steve and Tonya Riddick, the shop will offer a variety of desserts, including cobblers, cookies, cheesecake, and cobbler shakes, along with savory options like a chicken pot pie-style cobbler. The Riddicks aim to create a nostalgic, community-focused space for families to gather and enjoy sweet treats. We attended the 2024 Youth Dairy Show in Montgomery where we spoke with Richie Traylor, a dairyman from Randolph County, David Daniel, one of our good friends from Extension the show's superintendent and three competitors; Gabriel and Gracelyn Bristow and Mason Patterson - all from St. Clair County.

What is marine debris, what are its impacts and what can we do about it? These are the central messages of a play written on behalf of Wisconsin Sea Grant by David Daniel with American Players Theatre of Wisconsin.“Me and Debry,” is a half-hour, whimsical, audience-participation play about litter (or marine debris) in the Great Lakes. It had its “world premiere” in Wisconsin's Door County in October 2022 and it was performed three times at the Gilmore Fine Arts School in Racine, Wisconsin, for fifth- and sixth-grade students in May 2023.The play's script has been fine-tuned through these performances and is now available for others to use for free, complete with props.Ginny Carlton, Wisconsin Sea Grant's education outreach specialist, discussed the play with the Wisconsin Water News host and also why schools or other educational institutions might be interested in performing it.

Dr. David Daniel, WCC president at the time, took the lead in the effort to construct the center and WCC's Foundation, the development arm of the institution, embarked on a fundraising drive that would raise $2.2 million.In March of 1983, ground was broken on the building thanks to the 1,500 donors who contributed to the vision of the center. When construction was completed, WCC was enhanced by a 33,000 square foot building that featured an 1,100 seat auditorium, lobby, backstage area, and management area.The dedication and ribbon cutting were held on August 24, 1984 and featured the opening performance of Gordon MacRae and Anna Maria Alberghetti. On October 24 of that same year, WCC Theatre held its production of “The Music Man” in the center as a special performance for alumni.Over the years, interest in the John A. Walker Community Center grew as more people realized the tremendous asset such a facility provides. In addition to a vibrant performing arts center and exciting school events program, the center has hosted many business and community events. The increasing demand on the facility indicated a need for expansion. He has authored over sixty scholarly book chapters, academic journal articles, and general essays, publishing on topics related to the history of African American Christianity, Global Pentecostalism, African Christians in 16th century Europe, and World Christianity. He has served on U. S. research projects funded by the Lilly Endowment, Luce Foundation, Pew Charitable Trust, and Templeton Foundation. He has also participated on funded-research projects in Germany and Norway. Dr. Daniels has served on the various editorial boards, including current membership on the board of the Journal of World Christianity. He has delivered public lectures and conference papers at over twenty-seven colleges and seminaries in the United States as well as in more than 14 other countries. His academic guild involvement has included serving as president of the Society for Pentecostal Studies and co-chair of units of the American Academy of Religion. Dr. Vince Bantu's Bio: Vince Bantu is the Ohene (President) of the Meachum School of Haymanot and is Assistant Professor of Church History and Black Church Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary. Vince's assignment from the Lord is to proclaim that the Bisrat (Gospel) of Yeshua is for all nations, tribes and tongues and to do this by teaching on the earliest history of Christianity in Africa and Asia. Dubbed “the millennial bespoke tailor” by no less than Women's Wear Daily, Paolo Martorano, while still young, boasts a singularly auspicious body of experience. As the grandson of both a master tailor and a seamstress, Paolo's inclination to the bespoke world was something of a double legacy birthright. Prior to attending the Fashion Institute of Technology, where he graduated with a degree in Textile Science, he began his career while still a teenager by garnering an internship with Alan Flusser. He followed that with a seven-year stint in the custom clothing department at the legendary Madison Avenue flagship of Paul Stuart (where he helped quadruple their made-to-measure and Bespoke operations), only leaving to assume the position of Manager of Bespoke and Made-to-Measure, North America, at Dunhill. In 2017, at the urging of several customers, he took, by his own admission, the “immense step” of starting his own label. Today, Paolo Martorano Bespoke — located in the Renaissance Studios on West 57th Street in Manhattan— hews to the tradition of the “meticulous measurement,” “custom paper pattern” and “basted fitting” protocols that define the very best classic Bespoke process — which for generations has been the gold standard of a hand-made garment.  In this way, Martorano has earned the respect of international power players looking for unassailable sartorial correctness. At the same time, he has also cultivated a following amongst a new generation of sharp-dressed men, who crave not only the personalization and expertise that signifies the craftsmanship, but who also expect a uniquely collaborative experience and a timely delivery schedule. His client roster includes jazz guitarist John Pizzarelli, former Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus President Philip Miller, Stubbs & Wooton founder Percy Steinhart, and former President of LVMH, North America, David Daniel.
