The K9PT Academy Podcast: Business lessons for canine rehab therapists
As this episode comes out, I am preparing for my over two week long vacation. The first part of which, my wife and daughter Suzy will join me in the UK to visit one of my mentors followed by visiting my wife's family in Indiana to celebrate the 4th of July and my wife's birthday which falls on that day! I wanted to do guest interviews again after getting feedback from you all on how helpful it was to listen to other people's experience in this field so if you haven't already, go back and listen to the past guest interviews as well! These upcoming interviews span across a vet, PTA, veterinary nurse and physical therapist who practice in the U.S and Australia with different backgrounds and experience! Also don't forget to ask me questions for my “Ask me anything” podcast episode! Today's podcast episode is with Cris Macke who is a DPT and CCRT from Omaha, Nebraska. She founded the Macke Institute of Canine Therapy. “I had been a human physical therapist for six years and I had left an outpatient oncology physical therapy position so I was in between jobs and I was thinking about opening up my own human cash based PT practice. I ended up taking my dog to the vet for his yearly check up and at the end the veterinarian said everything looks good but he did have some limited hip function so he might have hip dysplasia. I started to do for my dog what I would do for a human patient and I noticed he was starting to move better and that is when the lightbulb went off and I did research online to see if animal PT was a thing”!
