We discuss his return to Norma Jean after releasing the Hundred Suns project, having the lifer mentality when it comes to the art form of metal, the difficult writing process for Norma Jean's new album, All Hail, how the loss of a fan inspired the creation of many songs, going through the stages of grief while creating songs, comparing the lessons learned from art to those learned to history, the essence of a “fictional reality,” and much more. Petar, Brandon, and Jozalyn also go through and breakdown the completion of The MetalSucks 25 Best Metal Albums of 2010 - 2019 poll, talk about the album we feel should never have made the list, and share our overall thoughts on each selection. Chapter 18 This isn't a Norma Jean episode per se, because of Norma Jean’s legend and significance in the heavy music scene. SolidState and Tooth & Nail history is much too large to begin to cover in an episode, so we will cover it from a variety of angles over time. But as far as Norma Jean goes, Cory Brandan is certainly a very central figure, and his career in this scene intersects multiple important bands and he is one of the very few individuals that has been able to find a way to thrive (although sometimes merely survive) and contribute for 20 years. Cory has been able to find or create paths when it seemed that none existed. What's even more hard to imagine is that Cory stayed focused on creating music and found his way despite the fact that by 1994 at the age of 18 he had already had his first child. I talked to Cory about his journey and mindset beginning with his first band Eso Charis, his connection to Living Sacrifice, and how he eventually became the leader of the almighty Norma Jean. https://labeledpodcast.com/ Support Labeled on Patreon Join Labeled on Facebook SONGS YOU HEARD ON THIS EPISODE: Norma Jean "Vertabraille" Eso Charis "Born With a Future" Living Sacrifice "Reborn Empowered" Eso Charis "The Narrowing List" Living Sacrifice "Imminent War" Empty "From a Chemist's Point of View" Norma Jean "The Human Face Divine" Norma Jean "The Shotgun Message" Norma Jean "1,000,000 Watts" Norma Jean "Blueprints for a Future Home" MORE FROM TOOTH & NAIL: * Labeled: Music From The Podcast: smarturl.it/labeledplaylist * DISCOVER IT: New Tracks from T&N Records: smarturl.it/TNNDiscover * This Is Solid State: New Tracks from Solid State Records: https://spoti.fi/2CUCsaH * Tooth & Nail Store (LABELED Patreon members get 20% off everything): tnn.lnk.to/store
Gentlemen welcome to The Blood Brothers Podcast. In this episode, we talk with Cory Brandan of the almighty Norma Jean. Cory and I certainly discuss music but then we get into the stuff you don't often get to hear from Cory; his views on masculinity, boundaries, the cultural divide, social media, terminology, and more. Then I take a shot at the meaning of some of my favorite lyrics. Grab some coffee and get comfortable. You don't want to miss this episode.

Did you know that Cory Brandan couldn’t sing AT ALL when he Joined Norma Jean? Did you know at one point he was set to replace Bruce Fitzhugh of Living Sacrifice? Did you know at one point I almost had to clock a couple club employees to defend him? This is the story of Cory […] The post Episode 5: Career Longevity with Corey Brandan of Norma Jean/Hundred Suns first appeared on Andrew Schwab.

Cory Brandan is the front man of renown metal & hardcore stalwarts, Norma Jean. Norma Jean's storied history began in the southern U.S. in the late 90's and quickly cemented their place in christian HXC circuits. Overtime, founding members have exited band but Cory (who joined in 2004) has remained unwavering, helping the band evolve into a multilayered collective with intricate songwriting and melodies. We talk about his growing up in a rich Arkansas music scene, the legacy of the Almighty Norma Jean, and the dark vibes he tapped in to when writing their recent album, Polar Similar, out now via Solid State Records. England's Dinosaur Pile Up are breaking out and commanding audiences everywhere they go with their stripped down, straight forward rock. DPU are road vets who through tireless touring across Europe and America playing arenas alongside some heavy hitters, have begun to see their fan base steadily growing. I talk with Matt, Mike, and Jim about their 90's influences, life on the road, upcoming festival runs, favorite American television shows, their recent album 11:11, and more.
Episode 43 - Norma Jean and Hundred Suns frontman Cory Brandan joins the show to discuss the juggling act of having 2 bands and a family, turning 40, how having kids can affect a band, the morality of crowdfunding, the feeling of joining a band as the second lead singer, and a lot more. What a cool looking number huh? I am excited to say that Cory Brandan, the vocalist of Norma Jean, is on the podcast today. We get in deep with his family life, building a career centered on music (at any cost) and never being comfortable. It’s a very introspective and revealing look at a person who has been doing this for quite some time. I love Norma Jean and hopefully you will after this chat (if you already don’t). Cory Brandan. Yup. THAT Cory. Norma Jean. Eso-Charis. Fear Is The Driving Force. What a great addition to your ATSG collection. Cory and I iron out the Eso-Sacrifice lineups, discuss the upcoming 10th Anniversary tour for Oh God The Aftermath, and discuss...ahem...fondling and murdering fellow astronauts while Heavy Randy is drunk driving on the moon in spadoinkle mode. Yeah. Cory Brandan has his own "everything" company called Unwork. We discuss Norma Jean's move from Solid State to Razor & Tie and their new upcoming, unannounced label. (Gonna be "SIIIICK"...Cory's words, not mine.) I read a twitter question from Seth Hansen ( @thestormmaster) directly to Cory. That's right. We interact when we can. Secret side projects in Canada, country music, bad tattoos...so fun. We then get into Cory opening up and telling the world about his new lyrical goals with this new era for Norma Jean. Oh...and that milk vomitting video. We got it all for you. You know why? Because we love you. Take care.
