Mikey, Tom, and Justin talk music, hockey, and anything else that gets in their way. Tom and Mikey are lifelong friends that grew up on Long Island during the glory days of alternative music where our local bands were As Tall As Lions, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Bayside, The Sleeping, Envy on the Coast, you get the point. We spent many nights together at The Downtown, catching any pop-punk, indie, hardcore, or emo band that came through. This was not a phase, Mom! Fast forward 20 years and we are still just as passionate about the scene as we were during our girl jeans and youth XL band tees days. Tom and Mikey are diehard New York Islanders fans, but Justin (Bolts fan) likes to remind us that we are #notanislespodcast. As we got older we realized we can like more than one thing and running beside our love for music has always been our love for hockey. We have realized we are not alone in this thinking, actually there are many of us that love these two things! This podcast explores just how connected they are!NEW EPISODE EVERY TUESDAY! Episode 81: Kevin Lyman. The Vans Warped Tour is the longest-running touring music festival in North America, drawing over 750,000 fans every summer at its peak. And it all started with one guy — Kevin Lyman. In this episode, we sit down in person with the man who turned parking lots into punk rock playgrounds, helped break some of the biggest names in music, and built a generation-defining cultural movement. Warped Tour was the first concert I ever went to at 13 years old, and a few years later, I was lucky enough to play the tour multiple times, including full runs, and again in 2010 with Skrillex. It was a big contributor in shaping my life. In this conversation, I finally got to ask Kevin everything I've wanted to know for years. We dive deep into: - How Kevin started Warped Tour from scratch - How he landed the sponsorship deal with Vans - The behind-the-scenes details that kept it running for 24 years - How he gave stages to artists like Sublime, No Doubt, Blink-182, Eminem, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Avenged Sevenfold, Paramore, Deftones, Katy Perry, The Used, Good Charlotte, New Found Glory, Sugar Ray, and MXPX - How legends like NOFX, Bad Religion, Rancid, Pennywise, and Less Than Jake helped anchor the tour - Why set times changed daily, were never announced in advance, and who set them - Working with Sublime, what Brad Nowell was like, and how Brad's death led Kevin to focus on helping people with recovery - Kevin's personal mission, values, and work ethic behind it all This 90-minute deep dive is the ultimate Warped Tour tell-all. We recorded it right after the first Warped Tour returned in Washington D.C. in July 2025 — with Long Beach and Florida still to come. Kevin Lyman is a punk rock pioneer, a cultural architect, and one of the most influential figures in live music. I'm honored to share this one with you. Here's my conversation with the amazing Kevin Lyman. My Chemical Romance are playing their landmark 2006 album, The Black Parade, in full on their latest tour — and much of the online discourse stems from one key moment during last Saturday's tour kickoff show. Between “Welcome to the Black Parade” and “I Don't Love You,” frontman Gerard Way led the audience in an “experiment” and “a practice of democracy.” The band trotted out four “candidates” with sacks over their heads and held an “election,” beckoning audience members to hold up a sign that said either “YEA” or “NAY.” Apparently, the majority of the audience voted “NAY,” as the four candidates were “shot” execution-style and removed from the B-stage on which they stood. “Thank you so very much for participating in democracy,” Way said with a wry smile before the band continued playing.” (Loudwire) Hosted by:Luke = https://bsky.app/profile/rockednet.bsky.socialAlex = https://bsky.app/profile/voiceofalex.bsky.socialRowan = https://bsky.app/profile/rowbuck01.bsky.social
On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is bringing you an encore episode of his conversation with Pierre Bouvier of Simple Plan. Simple Plan grew from pop-punk underdogs to genre heroes over the course of six studio albums. In addition to racking up collabs with members of blink-182, Sum 41, and Weezer, the Canadian vets have played on over a dozen Warped Tours and created pop-punk essentials through early tracks like “Welcome to My Life” and “I'm Just a Kid.” The latter experienced a viral moment through TikTok at the beginning of the decade, challenging people to recreate childhood photos as adults and post the results, which featured participation from Will Smith, Ed Sheeran, and beyond. Send us a textFor over four decades, Fishbone has stood as one of music's most defiant and visionary forces—a sonic volcano erupting with punk, ska, funk, soul, hard rock, and unflinching social commentary. Fronted by the electrifying Angelo Moore, the Los Angeles-bred band built its name on chaotic brilliance, truth-telling lyrics, and performances that blurred the line between concert and spiritual exorcism. Now, in 2025, Fishbone is not just looking back on its legacy—they're reclaiming it.On June 27, Fishbone releases its long-awaited ninth studio album, Stockholm Syndrome—the first full-length LP in over two decades. The album signals a bold new era: as raw, urgent, and rebellious as anything in their catalog, yet sharpened by decades of experience, reinvention, and refusal to fade away. The result is an album that roars with relevance. From beginning to end, Stockholm Syndrome is a whirlwind of infectious melody, urgent messaging, and unfiltered energy. Produced by Fishbone, Aryon Davis, and Chris McGrew, and mixed by Cameron Webb, the album even includes a bonus CD track provocatively titled “My God Is Better Than You're Gawd.” The message is clear: Fishbone is still challenging hypocrisy, still celebrating liberation, and still impossible to ignore. At the center of it all is Angelo Moore—a performer as magnetic as he is mercilessly honest. A saxophonist, vocalist, poet, and provocateur, Moore has long fused musical genius with social urgency. His onstage presence is unmatched: a shape-shifting force of acrobatics, soul revival, and punk sermon.“I don't just perform—I transform,” Moore declares. “My music isn't just entertainment—it's alchemy. It's liberation. It's the sound of someone who refuses to look away.”Fishbone will join Less Than Jake's Summer Circus Tour beginning June 7, bringing their legendary live chaos to cities across the U.S. They're also set to appear at Warped Tour 2025, with key stops in Long Beach and Washington, D.C., ready to school a new generation on what real genre disruption sounds like.Fishbone is not here for nostalgia. They're here to reignite.Stockholm Syndrome is both a battle cry and a celebration—music that provokes as much as it grooves, music that dances on the edge of collapse, only to burst into freedom. With Moore leading the charge, Fishbone is once again smashing the silence, exposing the rot, and proving that their voice—loud, lyrical, and utterly fearless—is more vital than ever.In the words of Dr. Madd Vibe himself:“I don't write controversy—I write truth. And the truth is uncomfortable when you're used to being lied to.”On June 27, the truth comes with horns, distortion, rhythm, and revolution. Fishbone is back. And they never left.http://www.betterhelp.com/TheBarnThis episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and brought to you as always by The Barn Media Group. Joining me on the podcast today is Zac Johnson of FRND CRCL. We dive into the band's journey—past, present, and future—and explore our perspectives on creativity in today's ever-evolving music industry.

This week, Shauna and Olivia are finally face to face and back in the studio after Olivia temporarily cures her Seasonal Affect Disorder with a trip to the sunny desert from gloomy San Francisco. After a brief celebration, the Junkies turn to one of today's most serious problems: Katy Perry. Once a teenage dream, now a middle-aged nightmare, Katy only seems to make headlines for ill-advised and tone-deaf actions. Shauna and Olivia remember Katy's golden years when she was a "Firework" dancing with Left Shark and break down how that led to insincere feminism, being weird in space and getting trolled by Wendy's.You can watch the Pop Culture Junkie Podcast on YouTube!
