In Episode 154 of the Metal Maniacs Podcast, host Jay Ingersoll sits down with Michigan metal veterans Withhold The Blood to break down over 16 years of grinding through the underground scene. From their early inception around 2010 to their latest 2026 single Nation of Fallacy, this episode dives deep into evolution, persistence, and crushing riffs. We talk about the current lineup featuring Jesse (vocals), Eli (drums), and Brandon (guitar), and how the band has stayed alive through lineup changes, limited online presence, and years between releases. Despite the chaos, the passion for heavy music never left.We revisit their early work including the 2014 EP Detached From Reality, featuring long-form songwriting, massive riffs, and vocal highs reminiscent of Randy Blythe. Tracks like “The Chosen” and “Eye For Misery” showcase their early blend of groove, melody, and raw aggression. Then we dig into 2018's Aberration, where the band leveled up—introducing heavier tones, tighter production, double bass intensity, and stronger deathcore influences. Songs like “Impulse to Kill,” “Broken Dreams,” and “Empty Confessions” highlight their growth in songwriting, rhythm, and technicality.Their newest release, “Nation of Fallacy” (2026), pushes even further—leaning harder into deathcore with relentless vocals, sharp melodic experimentation, and standout guitar work. This track feels like a natural evolution of Aberration while carving a heavier, more refined identity. We also cover:The band's origin and what kept them going for over a decadeLineup changes including past drummers like Levi Smith, Gary Swaggerty, and Mike MillerTheir writing process, riff development, and solo decisionsProduction approach, tone, gear, and tuning choicesLive shows, touring history (including 2019 runs), and recent gigs with VestigialPractice routines and collaboration dynamicsLife outside music, gaming, and influences they're listening to nowWhat's next for Withhold The BloodThis is a must-listen for fans of metalcore, deathcore, groove metal, and underground heavy music culture.
"I would argue that Sempiternal is their re-debut album. It pivoted to something that's a little bit more poppy for the mainstream general audience... it very much was a rebranding of them in a way." This week, Brian and Lizzie dissect Bring Me The Horizon's pivotal 2013 album, Sempiternal. They discuss the addition of Jordan Fish, Oli Sykes' shift to clean vocals, and how the band laid the blueprint for modern metalcore. A decade after its release, Bring Me The Horizon's Sempiternal remains a monumental record in emo history and modern metalcore. Brian and Lizzie sit down to review the album that transformed BMTH from a raw deathcore act into global rock superstars. They analyze the massive impact of Jordan Fish joining the band, bringing cinematic synths and EDM influences that completely reshaped their sonic landscape. The hosts break down Oli Sykes' evolution into clean, Linkin Park-inspired vocals and review standout tracks like 'Can You Feel My Heart', 'Shadow Moses', and 'Sleepwalking'. From the pop punk level of catchy hooks embedded in their heavy breakdowns to the nuanced electronic soundscapes that paved the way for the current 'baddiecore' movement, this episode covers it all. Did Sempiternal single-handedly save a stale scene, or are there valid critiques of its straightforward lyrics? Tune in to hear the Emo Social Club's final verdict on this definitive release. Interview by Kris PetersKnown for redefining genre boundaries, Prompts have built a reputation for masterfully fusing elements of nü-metal, mathcore, djent and deathcore, crafting a sound that is entirely unique to them that feels both experimental and refined. With members hailing from both Japan and South Korea, the band's dual heritage continues to shape their distinctive sound - a melding of contrasting influences and cultures.Continuing to prove themselves as one of metals most exciting up and coming acts, Japan-based metalcore outfit Prompts tread new ground on silky smooth new single "Death of Me", out now via Greyscale Records in partnership with Papercut Records (US).Leaning into a more subdued and atmospheric direction, "Death of Me" sees the band trade thrashing undercurrents for a slow-burning sense of yearning. The track lingers and aches, built around a deeply human contradiction - the kind of love where wanting the best for someone means convincing yourself to walk away. "One part of you swears letting go is the right thing to do, while the most honest part of you is quietly begging for the exact opposite," says the band. Ultimately, "Death of Me" unfolds as a confession confronting vulnerability and embracing softer truths. "It is about finally facing the softer, weaker parts of yourself you were trying to hide, and admitting that all you really wanted was to stay close to the person who never left your heart.”HEAVY sat down with frontman PK while he was in Australia as guest vocalist for Crystal Lake to find out more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
Send us Fan MailWe're joined by John Dillon and Max Codoceo of CODE:WORDS to Interview Under Fire to talk about the band's rapid rise, signing with The Artery Foundation, and the emotional weight behind tracks like “Limerence” and “All Consuming.” For a band that's only been around since 2023, CODE:WORDS already feels like something much bigger — blending melody, electronics, and heaviness into a sound that feels both modern and deeply personal. We also get into the themes driving the music — obsession, burnout, emotional exhaustion, and self-preservation — along with the creative process behind building a band that wants people to feel something. Beyond the atmosphere and massive hooks, there's a real sense of honesty at the core of what they're creating, and it genuinely feels like they're only beginning to scratch the surface of where this band can go.Stay connected with CODE:WORDS, visit: https://www.codewordscult.com/, https://www.instagram.com/codewordsmusic/ and https://www.facebook.com/Codewordsmusic/Stay connected with IUF, visit: https://interviewunderfire.com/

The BreakdownMost bands have a story, but few have the wild, hilarious, and sometimes downright bizarre adventures these guys do. Imagine walking into a garage and being told “Hey, you're the vocalist now” — without asking. Or the time their van was attacked by skinwalkers on a Texas highway. If you think “crazy band stories” are just a cliché, think again. This episode with Know Suffer is a no-holds-barred, no-suffer (see what I did there?) look into a band that's been around for nearly three decades, witnessing everything from skinwalkers to crashed vans, all while keeping it real, raw, and deeply musical. You'll discover how a band's evolution is more than just riffs and lyrics — it's about respect, resilience, and surviving the chaos that comes with being real in a scene that's always changing. We break down their wildest road trip stories, from a fog so thick it felt like a horror movie, to a mechanic who fixed their fuel pump with a sparepart — in 40 minutes flat. Jay and Toast spill the tea on what it's like to be the “big fish” in El Paso's scene, their secret to longevity, and how they thrive amidst Texas's massive, sprawling tour circuits. We delve into their latest album “The Curse of Care,” exploring the songwriting process, lyrical depth, and how they stay true to their roots—metalcore, death metal, and everything in between. Plus, get the scoop on their future plans — a Texas takeover, a legendary Texas BBQ recipe, and why “the more you suffer, the more you know.” Whether you're a hardcore fan or just love stories about bands risking it all on the road, this episode is packed with heart, humor, and some seriously good riffs.Ready for stories that are just as heavy as the music? Atreyu at this point are the elder statesmen of metal-core and they're embracing it. We are the Popeye's chicken biscuit of the metal scene. People can't take us because they choke immediately. The first bite, they're already on the ground gagging... You can't f*** with UnityTX. UnityTX is the Popeyes chicken biscuit of the metal scene—if you aren't ready, you're going to choke. Jay Webster and the band join Lizzie right after their set at Bottom Lounge in Chicago to get real about the current state of heavy music, the BIPOC hardcore experience, and dodging the Octane-core formula. Lizzie sat down with Dallas heavyweights UnityTX at Bottom Lounge in Chicago for an unfiltered conversation about the reality of modern heavy music. Touring alongside Varials, the band digs into the writing process behind their track 'Heinous' and how they intentionally fuse horrorcore, 90s rap, and the heavy grooves of Korn and Meshuggah without falling into the predictable Octane-core radio trap. As a predominantly BIPOC band bridging hardcore punk and hip-hop, they open up about the frustration of 'torch passing' in the nu-metal revival—explaining the massive difference between genuine support from acts like P.O.D. versus surface-level nods from the Limp Bizkit or Papa Roach camps. Stick around after the interview as Brian and Lizzie yap to debate who actually holds the top three spots in the new wave of nu-metal. "I feel like on this record, we didn't cater to, like, trying to get on the radio. We didn't cater to try to, you know, make the heaviest breakdown... We just wanted to make music that feels timeless for us." "That's what nu metal is to me. That is, like, the ultimate combination of cultures. UnityTX is really good at doing that, and everybody wants to acknowledge it only when it's cool." JOIN THE CLUB! Send us Fan MailWe sat down with Ian Schneider of Resistor to talk about their explosive debut full-length BITE THIS!, now out worldwide. Blending the swagger of O.G. nu-metal with the intensity of modern hardcore, the band has carved out their own lane with what they've dubbed “knuckle dragging wika wika core”—a sound rooted in collaboration, raw energy, and unapologetic attitude.Throughout the conversation, we explored the band's origins—from a chance meeting at a skate park to becoming one of the most chaotic and talked-about emerging acts in heavy music. Ian broke down how that chemistry drives their songwriting process, the importance of balancing aggression with memorability, and how working with Randy LeBoeuf helped bring their vision to life in its heaviest and most complete form yet. With BITE THIS! now out in the world and the band continuing to build momentum on the road, Resistor are pushing forward with a clear mission: keep it heavy, keep it real, and make it hit.Stay connected with Resistor, visit: https://weareresistor.com/, https://www.instagram.com/weareresistor/, and https://www.facebook.com/WeAreResistor/Stay connected with IUF, visit: https://interviewunderfire.com/

The BreakdownMost metal bands are happy enough to talk about riffs and mosh pits, but Cytera? They dive headfirst into the chaos—from their first stage nerves to the wild stories of playing Chili's or imagining shows at nursing homes. These guys are raw, real, and ready to take the stage... possibly in Japan or in your backyard (well, maybe). In this episode, you'll discover how this Austin three-piece got their start—bouncing back from hiatus, channeling social issues into heavy tunes like “Crave” and “De-Throned,” and what it takes to survive your first gig (spoiler: it's mostly about band camaraderie and practice). They share foolishly funny stories about rehearsals, insecurities, and how to handle stage fright without turning into a total nervous wreck. We break down their upcoming plans—more gigs, new releases, and even their hilarious nightmare visions of playing at Waffle House. Plus, get the scoop on the wild themes behind their songs, from drug obsession to fighting off the shadowy perils of the music industry—and maybe even a little “Nursing Home Metal.” Perfect for fans craving heavy riffs and honest stories, or anyone who thinks band life is all long hair and loud amps.Whether you're a metalhead, a future frontman, or just a curious soul who loves a good laugh, this episode will inspire you to get on stage, face your fears, and maybe dream up your own Chili's gig.And remember — don't take more than one Cytera per eight hours—side effects may include headbanging, giggling, and a sudden urge to start a band.Support these guys, stream their tracks “Crave,” “Alice,” and “De-Throned,” and prepare for their stage debut—probably sooner than you think. This is metal storytelling at its most raw, real, and ridiculously entertaining.Episode InfoIG: https://www.instagram.com/cyteraband/Website: https://stagelink.to/cyteraATXMP Website: https://atxmp.transistor.fm/Sponsors / AffiliatesCome and Take It Productions: https://www.comeandtakeitproductions.comCome and Take It Live: https://www.comeandtakeitlive.com/No Control Radio: https://www.klbjfm.com/show/no-control/Chapters00:00 Introduction and Technical Setup03:56 Band Dynamics and Member Roles05:48 First Show Anticipations and Experiences08:43 Performance Anxiety and Stage Presence11:37 Preparing for Live Shows14:27 Overcoming Nervousness and Mistakes17:23 The Importance of Rehearsal20:17 Audience Interaction and Performance Challenges21:53 Bird Box Drumming and Stage Anxiety23:57 Preparing for Live Performances26:48 Vocalist Homework and Rehearsal Strategies29:13 Exploring New Music Themes33:31 The Dark Side of Lyrics37:46 Parental Advisory and Music Themes42:34 Future Music Directions and Themes47:06 Upcoming Performances and Social Media Presence53:15 ATXMP Youtube Animation.mov
