He has his Vocal Gift! The son of Ruth Brown, the Queen of Rhythm and Blues and Clyde McPhatter, the founder and lead vocalist of The Drifters. His Dad is in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Billy Ward's Dominoes & The Drifters.Ruth Brown used her influence to press for musicians' rights regarding royalties and contracts; these efforts led to the founding of the Rhythm and Blues Foundation. Her performances in the Broadway musical Black and Blue earned Brown a Tony Award, and the original cast recording won a Grammy Award. Brown was a recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. In 2017, Brown was inducted into National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame. She is also the aunt to legendary hip hop MC Rakim. He's toured with artists as varied as Bonnie Raitt and Rick James, performed three times at The White House and often pays tribute to his famous dad in concert by performing Drifters classics like “On Broadway” and “Under The Boardwalk” with his own contemporary twist), movies Ronn clearly enjoying singing side by side, then eye-to-eye with Halle Berry in “Why Do Fools Fall In Love” and appearing in other great music-in-movies films about The Temptations, Little Richard and The Five Heartbeats ), and television (a young Ronn worked with the legendary comic Redd Foxx on his final TV show). Now, Ronn is now poised to take his silky vocal stylings to radio stations, on-line portals and dance clubs across the USA.Ronn David knows what it takes to make it in the music business…and it all begins with a great song. “I Want Your Lovin'”, Ronn's a single from his upcoming album, is that song.Impossibly catchy, smoothly soulful and with a ready-made dance poised to fill the floor at clubs and parties from coast-to-coast, “I Want Your Lovin'” just may give Ronn David something he richly deserves; the opportunity to shine as brightly as his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame parents stars. “I love and respect what my parents accomplished very much; but like most folks, I want to make my own mark on the world And for me, a big part of that is to make my music and succeed on my own merits”, says Ronn with an easy smile from his Los Angeles home, a stone's throw away from Hollywood Boulevard and the Capitol Records studio where his folks recorded some of their biggest hits. Ronn David is also a proud Howard University Alumni!Turns out Ronn is far too modest about what he's already accomplished on his own. Funk, Blues, Rock n' Roll, R&B and standards — of the few singers that have genuinely done it all, have any done it better than the inimitable Ms. Khan? This episode, The Music Snobs give long overdue love to one of the most important artists of any lifetime. From classic masterjams to the deepest solo cuts, TMS travels song by song through a catalog that undeniably has the range, to ask: is Chaka Khan the most versatile vocalist of all time? The crew's love letter to Chaka gets intricate, exploring a voice that's truly akin to a musical instrument, putting her recordings both with a band and by herself up against every other frontperson of a famous Funk outfit. But if that ain't enough for one episode, the Snobs stay in a funky place and resurrect one of their favorite segments — to wonder: What if... The band first began in 2013 with influences such as The Cure, Joy Division, Interpol and Editors then went on to cut their first three albums which were firmly rooted in the post punk genre. In 2020, the band went through some changes that included their line up, their sound and their label. Currently, their latest 4th studio album entitled "In a Different Light" finds the band merging elements of dance flavored electronica with modern darkwave and classic '80s post-punk; the results, as the band explains, present a shift from a “hard-boiled, minimalistic sound into a more readily accessible one,” while still adhering to the attitude and aesthetic that first defined A PROJECTION.  "In a Different Light" is available on Metropolis Records  on both limited vinyl and compact disc along with all digital and streaming platforms.  https://aprojection.comhttps://aprojection.bandcamp.comPlaylist and podcast: https://djnocturna.comYou Tube:  https://www.youtube.com/c/DJNocturnaListen : http://modsnapradio.comQUEEN OF WANDS with DJ NocturnaEvery Saturday on ModSnap RadioKMOD: San Antonio"San Antonio's leading alternative streaming Radio Station since 2017"3pm (HST), 5pm (PST), 6pm (MST), 7pm (CST), 8pm (EST)#modsnapradio #postpunk #goth #industrial #darkelectronicmusic#DJNocturna #aprojection

This week, by request, we finally get back in the studio to put a spotlight on the best voice in the country music industry; Chris Stapleton. Chris' voice has all the sound and soul of a blues crooner with all of the texture of a country dynamo. Personally, I would put him up against any other voice to battle it out. We discuss the recent problems with concert tickets prices and other recent topics. We go through Chris' career, as well as, his early life, and his personal life. He has definitely earned every ounce of success he has! Since 2001, he has dedicated his life to this musical journey. After his bluegrass band, his southern rock band, and after meeting his beautiful wife, Morgane, his career finally started to reach the pinnacles that are all too obvious now. His performances are always crowd pleasing, but(Jordan's opinion) if you truly want to hear that special sound that can never be duplicated by a mortal man, a duet with his wife Morgane… that is worth the price of admission. As the Valedictorian of his graduating class, it seems he was always destined for great things. He is only getting started if you ask me! Thanks, as always for supporting us! Please remember to like, share, rate, review, follow, etc. join us on our Facebook group page! That's actually the place where Stapleton was requested, by friend of the show, James Blevins. Spoken word intro piece is by legendary underground Hip-Hop MC Myka 9 of Freestyle Fellowship. Origins and influences are featured in this episode's conversation with Dwight Trible, including his love and appreciation for jazz drummer extraordinaire Brian Blade and his collaboration with the great Kenny Garrett, whose album "Sounds from the Ancestors" he played on. He describes his early life in Cincinnati, before he moved to Los Angeles, and some of the racial issues he encountered as a young boy. We talk about what it was like for him to work with Leimert Park elders and legends like Billy Higgins, Art Davis, Horace Tapscott, and Kamau Daáood. We discuss The World Stage, founded by Daáood and Higgins, and its importance as a grassroots, community-owned cultural center for progressive music. Content and the sacred are important themes throughout.https://dwighttrible.com

Skin, Nona Hendryx and Paolo Nutini discuss writing songs in your dreams, knowing when to grab at an idea, why playing piano can take you to places you have no right to go, and fighting on stage. Skin grew up in a Jamaican family in Brixton, London, and as a child, wanted to be a pianist. She formed Skunk Anansie in 1994 and they became pioneers of the Britrock scene, speaking out against racism, homophobia and sexism. She was also the first Black artist to headline the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury Festival when the band performed there in 1999. Vocalist, songwriter, producer, author and actress Nona Hendryx was a member of the pioneering girl group Labelle in the 1960s and 1970s. Since then, her avant-garde solo career has taken in everything from hard rock to RnB to house music, and she intends to become a cyborg and still make music. Following an 8 year absence from the music scene, Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini is back with his latest project Last Night in the Bittersweet, and pop superstar Lewis Capaldi has declared himself a huge fan.

These...are facts. And today, we had the distinct pleasure of spending a few minutes talking to Brian about his new book, "The Lives Of Brian"...and as is with every conversation we've ever had with him...he is one of the most humble, kind and friendly rock legends you could ever hope to meet. We only got to spend a few minutes chatting this morning, and that didn't EVEN scratch the surface of his story...so hopefully soon we'll get him back in to get deeper into the story...but for now, enjoy 10 minutes with a true icon.

Once I could feel grounded in an East African context and value who I am in an American context - suddenly it was so apparent that music was where I was supposed to be. The dynamic, ascendant jazz singer Somi has been celebrated for her artistry as much as her activism. She became the first African woman ever nominated in any of the Grammy's Jazz categories last year, and she has performed at the United Nations' General Assembly by invitation from UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. Somi describes herself as a “East African Midwestern girl who loves family, poetry, and freedom” and yet hers is a story of survival, adversity, and transformation. In this episode, she discusses what happens when a teacher steals your joy, the power of a meditative practice that connects her to her ancestors, and how she is still finding her voice.   References: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon Miriam Makeba The Babiito and Bunyoro-Batooro people Curtis Institute of Music ‘Dreaming Zenzile:' Somi Kakoma and Miriam Makeba Zap Mama

Grammy® Nom, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & New Music, TV Appearances..........What was it Like Being a Rock & Soul Star & Tour BEFORE Integration? What was it like for a New Yorker Touring the segregated South n the late 50's early 60's? What was it like to hear your song on the radio & be on a Dance TV Show as Black a music act, yet the audiences & dancers in that studio were segregated ( No Blacks, Minorities allowed)? We discuss early Rock, Radio & icons of the past & present in this episodeAlthough his music pre-dates ME, My Grand Folks & Family always had the Rock n Roll/Soul Classics playing  when I went to Reunions & around the House during my Childhood. I consider this a GIFT!!  I ALSO get the gift of Interviewing one of my Favorites: Little Anthony!!Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee “Little Anthony” Gourdine is without question one of the most celebrated vocalists in the annals of popular music. His tender yet explosive delivery of a musical phrase leaves audiences spellbound with an impression so indelible that casual listeners never forget the ‘voice' or the tunes he immortalized. These songs consistently emanate from airwaves and are often lauded in music journals worldwide. Songs such as “Goin' Out Of My Head,” “I'm On The Outside Looking In,” “Hurt So Bad,” and “Take Me Back,” are simply four of a compendium of platinum hits performed by the extraordinarily gifted performer on national television and heard on classic and Top-40 radio spanning numerous decades. His latest blockbuster release is no will-o'-the-wisp, stab in the dark recording; it is a well-thought-out and substantive diary of songs, including many covers bearing his unmistakable vocal imprint. Producer Michael Miller spared no effort in tirelessly orchestrating a project that promises an enduring shelf-life titled LITTLE ANTHONY & THE MUSIC — AN ANTHOLOGY. Songs include the classics “A Lovely Way To Spend An Evening, ”Love is a Many Splendored Thing,” “What A Difference A Day Makes,” and “Who's Sorry Now.” Forty memorable selections should keep you and your significant other reminiscing for some time to come. And if you're not spoken for, you can enjoy it all to yourself for as long as you can imagine! There is something for everyone in these forever volumes. And I promise you: The fun verbal exchanges in the narration between Anthony and the producer are insightful as twists and turns unravel in the development of this contemporary musical masterpiece. Despite many of the songs being standards, you'll notice his articulate style blessing each track. Consider the infusive single and premier release "New York State of Mind." While some scratch their heads in wonderment upon hearing this cover for the first time, thinking: "That voice is familiar." And after a slight pause, like a ton of bricks it hits them: "That's Little Anthony!" For sure. And then they go on praising his vocal acumen, deservedly so. His R&B-laced rendering of "New York State of Mind" is a divergence from the perennial recording and sports an infectious 42nd Street vibe. It's performed so well that composer Billy Joel is likely to tip his hat. A popular legend recently said: "The Man's still got it!" A few days from scheduled release, we're anticipating a rush of accolades and interest in what comes next. After years of performing at arenas and concert halls, clubs and festivals, Anthony has acquired a wealth of experience that accompanies him as you flashback to his highly successful stint as lead singer with the Imperials on a few choice cuts. Following the release of this work, expect the entertainment icon and his band to visit a city near you with a live show embracing many of the tunes contained in this two-volume cache — and more. As an all-around artist in the studio and on stage, he has been and remains an inspiration to many larger-than-life- acts, past and present: Silk Sonic, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, and Michael Jackson, to name a few. Nearly every rock, pop, R&B, and jazz act who attained star status attribute a slice of their inspiration to the influence of Little Anthony as a lead vocalist and a solo artist. Alive and well, he is eager to take his show on the road and share as much as audiences can enjoy, including numbers from the Anthology. Like a silver fox, he roams the stage, eyeing each participant as they sing along with the seasoned crooner and his dynamic band. Recently, the Brooklyn, NY, native said: “I'm anxious to share these songs with folks everywhere, and I'm so proud of the entire team that helped put it all together.” This is only the beginning of a succession of projects on tap for the foreseeable future. He is busily working on other productions to be named later. His new autobiography Little Anthony -- My Journey, My Destiny is not the traditional rags-to-riches -- cock-and-bull story and not the aimless tale landing everywhere. It is a culmination of a lifetime of near embryonic experiences unlike many others -- and he is here to talk about it. But whether sipping a cup of tea, tearfully empathizing with the subject, or pondering a musical concept, there's something for everyone in this one. One more thing: the fact that Anthony rhymes with anthology sounds cute and is coincidental, but the sterling quality of this 40-track-production is not(!) borne of luck. “Little Anthony” Gourdine has brightened many a day for aficionados of ‘God's musical gift to mankind' everywhere with indescribably beautiful music that fills our hearts with Joy! .............. https://www.harmonystreet.biz/                                                           Phil C.
