This week I have long time friend T.J. Petracca, one of the co founders of popular club night "Emo Nite." What makes this episode special to me is we grew up in the same town of Park City, UT experiencing the same things, I had already moved to California when T.J. would be experiencing his love for Emo, and Punk Rock. I hear his story on how he was able to build an empire and how he's been able to help so many bands get attention throughout the years.  The post T.J. Take You Home. Pop-punk vs country music queen, winner of The Voice USA and Grammy nominated badass, Cassadee Pope, is our guest on Episode 251 of Sappenin' Podcast! After hearing us discuss the rise of Hey Monday through Emo's Mainstream Explosion with Chris Payne, the multi-genre star returns to share secrets on re-embracing her dark roots, absurd industry battles and influencing a generation of songwriters. In this conversation, Cassadee opens up on walking away from her country albums to relive new emo dreams, reconnecting with her younger self, why every chapter of her career is like a personal landmark, the bands messy legacy vs hiatus, having Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy) as her own cheerleader, label meddling, self-reflection, cornish pasties, how TV singing competitions really work behind the scenes, sneakily appearing with other artists, words of affirmation, writing with Taylor Acorn, secret rebellions, fighting a cookie, zoo gigs, emo hairstyles, naughty lyrics and more! ECU Preview: Offense starts at the top Last year was The Year. This year is the Mason Garcia, except their coach is being cagey about it. Best lineman got poached by the portal late. Best receiver is a Georgia transfer who actually played some for UGA. 2. ECU Preview: Defense starts at 15:06 Play a TCU style with five guys on the line, one LB in the middle, two wing safeties and three guys deep. One of the most zone-dependent teams last year and blitzed seldom. They do leave the second level open for you: hooks away. Led the AAC in tackles by safeties. Gonna try to jam the run game with small guys. 3. What We Learned About Minnesota & Nebraska starts at 41:54 Oh dear, these are not good teams. Minnesota could not have wanted to rely so much on the Greek God rolling away from immediate pressure. We are fans of Daniel Jackson now because he bailed his QB out a few times, including the awesome TD at the end. Nebraska admits they Scott Frosted it; they're all Frost's players except GT transfer QB Jeff Sims, who tanked them with three atrocious INTs at the worst time. Did not know you could review a spot after a false start. 4. Seth & Alex Make Stupid Predictions starts at 41:54 Brian makes us answer all the dumb questions he didn't have to, like how incompetently will will PFF rank Trevor Keegan. About the Featured Musician This year we are partnering with The Blind Pig for bumper music, since that's where I've seen most of the bands I've been pushing anyways.  Dad Caps (bandcamp, Spotify) was formed in the D.I.Y scene of Lansing. Apparently "Midwest Emo" is a different thing than "Other Places Emo" but if you're into Far (Seth was very into Far in college) you'll get it. Why do they have other kinds of Emo? Seems like Midwest Emo should just be what Emo is. Anyway Dad Caps consisting of local lip ring enthusiast Gaven on guitar and vocals, Lansing's sad sk8r boi Vic on bass and vocals, the hot guy Ben on guitar, Maverick on drums, and the legendary Lansing bassist Dane on keyboard and trumpet. They're playing tomorrow night at the Blind Pig with Who Is We . Knucklehead Death Kwon Dump Fistfight in the TJ Maxx Parking Lot Also because Across 110th Street will get our Youtubes taken down, the opener and outro: “The Employee is Not Afraid”—Bear vs. Shark “Ruska Vodka”—Motorboat

Welcome to the exhilarating season finale of Pod Goes Punk! This week, we're back with a bang as we unravel the layers of The Front Bottoms' latest creation, "You Are Who You Hang Out With." This album holds a special place in our hearts, as it marks the 5th record we've covered by this pod favorite. However, it's not just another release – it's a departure from their usual style, raising questions about both their musical evolution and the potential shift in quality. Join the Cool Guys™ on a rollercoaster of insights, opinions, and impassioned debates as we delve into the heart and soul of this intriguing album.   And the praise keeps rolling in! The Huffington Post lauded this episode, declaring, "Pod Goes Punk is the complete compendium for pop punk music, and when it comes to The Front Bottoms, you might as well call them Stephen." With your support, we've reached the end of another remarkable season. But don't worry, this isn't goodbye – Season 2 is set to kick off in November with even more thrilling episodes, engaging discussions, and of course, all things punk rock. As we close out this chapter, we want to extend a heartfelt thanks for your warm welcome back. Be sure to listen, subscribe, and leave a 5-star rating along with a glowing review. Your feedback keeps us going and your passion for punk rock fuels our fire. Until Season 2, rock on and keep the punk spirit alive!

Kids, 90s emo ain't your geriatric millennials' emo. This is Gen X giving the world its greatest contribution to popular culture this side of The Simpsons. The 90s were the golden age for guitar-based bands made up of (mostly) dudes that were in touch with their feelings, and had an undeniable urge to scream about it or at least put their unique spin on songs about love and youthful exuberance. The ever-knowledgeable Ryan Stockstad helps ATTT wrap up our conversation about this particular place, time, genre and subgenre that spawned massive successes in the following decade. The sound of what we've come to know as "emo" from the insane popularity of bands like Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance and Panic! At The Disco in the 2000s differs pretty wildly from the sound of the bands that spawned the genre. 90s emo is a particular brand of emo - much more moody, more lo-fi, more rooted in punk, hardcore, new wave, and bands like Fugazi. In large part thanks to Nirvana, little scenes began popping up all over small town America throughout the 90s, and seemingly random outcroppings like Boise, ID Mesa, AZ, Kansas City, MO and Milwaukee, WI became hotbeds of guitar driven heart-on-sleeve bands made up of kids getting in touch with their emotions while bashing out some cathartic rock n roll. You didn't have to be there, but it helps and this week's guest was right in the thick of it back in the day as was your humble host. The brutality this all leads to can be seen coming, but it doesn't make it any less mind boggling. Prepare to be transported into a world of raw emotion and nostalgic vibes as we delve deep into the sounds of this modern sensation. Get ready to discover a hidden treasure that promises to tug at your heartstrings and make you fall in love with the emo genre all over again.   And it seems we're not the only ones who've been captivated by this band's magic. The New Yorker raved about this very episode, stating, "As someone who has spent the better part of their life on the east coast, I feel eternally ashamed that I've slept on this shit." This is your chance to rectify that oversight and dive headfirst into the world of true musical artistry. So, whether you're an emo connoisseur, a pop-punk enthusiast, or just someone in search of music that speaks to your soul, tune in and let us guide you through a journey that's bound to leave you feeling inspired and musically fulfilled.
