This week we have been in Scotland visiting Ollie, so we decided to take the chance to record a three person episode. To celebrate we are discussing every death that has occurred at the many Theme Parks of the UK and Ireland. Starting with a quick primer on the origin of the Theme Park we discuss both the worst disaster in UK history and the worst decade for deaths (maybe the Emo's were onto something). Also I had no opportunity to edit, so this is a rare uncut episode, a great chance to see just how unprofessional we are.Guest Hosts: Emma Heathcote & Oliver Green Hosted on Acast. "I think we're one of the first bands that wasn't afraid of being called emo. We didn't try to tell people not to call us emo. We were actually trying to be an emo band."We're live at Warped Tour Orlando with Buddy from Senses Fail! He dives into why the band always embraced being called emo and their early days on Drive-Thru Records, while also detailing their three unique sets for the Emo's Not Dead cruise.Live from Warped Tour Orlando, we sit down with the legendary Buddy Nielsen of Senses Fail. Buddy reflects on the band's unique place in emo history, sharing why they were one of the few bands to proudly embrace the 'emo' title from the very beginning. He discusses their roots on the iconic pop punk label Drive-Thru Records and how influences like Finch and Jimmy Eat World shaped their sound. Looking ahead, Buddy gives us an exclusive preview of their ambitious plans for the Emo's Not Dead cruise, which includes three distinct sets: a jazz band called Martini Kiss, a set of their greatest hits, and a hardcore performance. Tune in for a deep dive into the legacy and future of one of the scene's most important bands.HIGHLIGHTS:"I think we're one of the first bands that wasn't afraid of being called emo. On this week's episode We were joined by Emo night DJ Bobby Kane! Chris has been going to Emo nights in his neck of the woods of Syracuse New York and Bobby has been the DJ, So we decided it would be fun to talk to him about how he got started DJing, emo nights, memorable moments, and of course music! We had so much fun chatting with him and we hope you enjoy the conversation as much as we did!
For a generation who felt like outsiders in the late 2000s, the emo scene felt like the one place where they could belong—and make sense of the chaos inside, as their favorite artists began to express the pain they held within their hearts: As Bert McCracken of The Used once said, “Music is church, therapy, and philosophy all wrapped up into one.” And that's exactly what this scene became. From the explosive confessions of “Take It Away” to Panic! at the Disco pacing the church aisles in “I Write Sins Not Tragedies,” from Hayley Williams of Paramore shouting “The truth never set me free—so I'll do it myself” to My Chemical Romance singing revenge, resurrection, and spiritual crisis across Three Cheers—emo wasn't afraid to rip open the human heart and let everything spill out. But what was quickly learned was that many who saw this as therapy could also take it to a place of no return. After 13-year-old Hannah Bond chose to delete herself, emo became Public Enemy Number 1. In 2008, the Daily Mail fired the headline heard around the globe: “Why No Child Is Safe from the Sinister Cult of Emo.” Suddenly, a culture built for struggling youth was being shown as something dark and dangerous, with fans of the genre fighting against the current of their day attempting to drift people away from the emotional music of the generation. But now it's 2025; those late-2000s outsiders have grown up—and emo is rising again. My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday, Jimmy Eat World—the bands who shaped a generation are continuing to play shows, and their fans are right back in their black eyeliner and emotional armor. What was emo really preaching? Because these weren't just break-up anthems—they were songs about identity, guilt, rebellion, spiritual confusion, and the longing for something beyond the pain. What we want to look at is the controversy, the comeback, and the worldview behind the music that became a church, therapy, and philosophy for millions. "I think all black and brown people across all industries and fields know that we always have to work 10 times harder to be met in the middle."We're joined by rap rock pioneers Oxymorrons at Warped Tour. They get real about the challenges and pride of being Black artists in the alternative rock scene. The band also shares the creative freedom behind their latest independent album cycle._________________________________________________Live from Warped Tour, we sit down with the incomparable Oxymorrons. Hailing from Queens, NY, the band has consistently challenged the boundaries of the alternative scene by blending hip hop, rock, and punk into a sound that is uniquely their own. In this raw and honest conversation, they discuss the realities of being Black artists in a predominantly white space, touching on the concept that they must work ten times harder just to be met in the middle. They share powerful anecdotes about the pride they see in fans of color at shows, reinforcing why representation is more than just a buzzword. We also dive into the creative cycle behind their latest independent project, "create, destroy, rebuild, repeat," and what it means to make art without the pressures of commerce. (PATREON EXCLUSIVE)How Death Note: The Last Name truncates the the latter-half of the source material, reordering some things and altering others outright, works pretty well.Shirleon enjoyed seeing the Death Note story unfold in a new, better-handled manner. It helped her better understand what she likes about the overall narrative. If these adaptations are missing anything, it's the monologues.Melvin wonders why a "Set in the world of Death Note" anthology movie or series hasn't been created, and he elevator-pitches five ideas that could be explored.Talking about the recurrent line "Sacrifices are necessary.".Melvin felt the ending satisfied the main thematic beats of its source material. Conclusão da Parte 1: espiritualidade é presença no ordinário — trabalho, família, fila, café — onde a semente do Alto encontra solo.2️⃣ TÓPICOS ABORDADOS

Hello friends! We have a great big show for you today! Singer-songwriter and bass player Andrew Duplantis is my guest for episode 1524! Andrew is best known for being one of the go-to bass players for the last 30 years with artists like Son Volt, The Meat Puppets, Jon Dee Graham, Molecular Steve, and many more. Andrew has also been releasing amazing solo albums for over 20 years and has recently been fronting his own band The Hole in the Wall Happy Hour on Tuesdays here in Austin. We have a great conversation about balancing being a sideman and frontman, getting older, our love of the "Rock and Roll Free for All" at The Hole in the Wall, being a dad, making music for fun, and much more. You can find Andrew on Spotify, Bandcamp, Instagram, and Facebook. Plus, Hanna Cofer, Executive Director of HOME (Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers), checks in about Austin HOMEcoming where throughout November, participating venues - including Saxon Pub, Antone's Nightclub, Continental Club, 3TEN at ACL Live, Emo's, Stubb's, C-Boys Heart and Soul, Donn's Depot, Paramount Theatre, Hole in the Wall, and more - will donate a percentage of ticket or bar sales back to HOME. You can find out more about this amazing organization that provides housing assistance and financial support to aging musicians and entertainers in Austin at homeaustin.org. Two great conversations. "We have literally... been had a wake up call." Spencer Chamberlain of Underoath gets brutally honest about why the band can no longer ignore TikTok and social media. What does "emo" even mean? We're live on the tour bus with Spencer Chamberlain and Chris Dudley of Underoath to figure it out. We dive deep into the 20th anniversary of their foundational album, They're Only Chasing Safety , and how its success paved the way for their entire career. The band reflects on their early "hardcore band" roots , their complicated "Christian rock" label , and how old-school emo influences like Jimmy Eat World shaped their sound.More importantly, we connect that history to the present day. Spencer and Chris share a major "wake up call" about the music industry , giving candid advice to new bands on why TikTok and social media are no longer optional , and why the era of "mystery in rock n roll" is over. This is a must-listen for anyone who grew up with the band and any new artist trying to navigate the modern scene. Dan & Billy welcome Naomi Carmack, the host of Dope Nostalgia, to put Halloween Music Videos to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST! “Other people's kids are so creepy.” -Naomi This Spooky Season episode takes Dan, Billy, and their guest Naomi Carmack down a very weird music video path. 5-years ago, Dan & Manny put another five videos to the ultimate test, and so Dan had to really go searching for some real nostalgic gens this time. They dig into videos from The Backstreet Boys, the Ramones, Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie, and DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. Their spooky conversation covers everything from creepy children, Backstreet never really being gone, the power of Ozzy's absolute insanity, low budget videos vs high budget videos, the Emo spirit of late-80s Ramones, and what exactly is Dragula? Also, they do a deep dive into the Will Smith video for “Nightmare on my Street” and Dan points out the odd Winnie the Pooh bedtime getup that Will Smith is wearing in the video, and is that a shot of his underwear (watch the episode to see this still shot)? Finance doesn't have to be a mystery—it can be your greatest advantage. In this episode of the Machine Shop MBA series, we sit down with Jon Hughes, Erik Skie, and Mike Estes from CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA) to unpack the financial principles that separate high-performing shops from those that just get by. Together, they dig into how manufacturers can transform their accounting systems from mere compliance tools into strategic assets that fuel growth. From understanding capacity and pricing to mastering forecasting and job costing, this conversation bridges the gap between the shop floor and the balance sheet. CLA's experts explain why simplicity often beats complexity, how to avoid “bad business” when chasing volume, and why aligning cost structure with capacity utilization is the secret to consistent profitability. They also explore how automation and advanced equipment investments change the financial equation, why separating costing from pricing is essential, and how the best-run shops use forecasting not just to plan—but to learn. Whether you're running a $3M job shop or a $30M operation, this episode gives you the tools to make smarter financial decisions and build long-term resilience. If you've ever felt frustrated for not being “over it” yet or confused when old emotions resurface, this one's for you. We'll talk about grief, self-compassion, emotional growth, and how healing isn't something you finish - it's something you live, one gentle moment at a time.
