Greg and Jimmy were able book another guest to keep you guys occupied! Michael Ernst of Cubs Den provides incredible insights about almost anything you can imagine. He leads off the episode by talking about how he got into writing thanks to the best to ever do it, John Arguello. We give Michael plenty of time to reminisce on his thoughts on Javy Baez as he ascended through the system (14:30). The crew is then able to get down into the weeds about what makes the top bats in the system tick (21:00). The three talk a little bit about the prospects that are under the radar (42:30) before biting the bullet to talk about the prospects we totally whiffed on over the years (57:30).
This week, the first words out of my guest's mouth are "That is so depressing!" So that's how you know we must be talking about the Cubs' offseason. Andi Cruz Venacek (Cuppa Cubbie Blue podcast, Cubs Den) joins Ken Schultz to discuss all that the Cubs have accomplished so far during the Winter Meetings. After that seven seconds, we realize that there's still a ton of time to fill. So we launch into the many reasons why trading Kris Bryant is a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad idea. Other topics include: Marvin Miller's long overdue Hall of Fame election, a desperate plea to extend Javy Báez & Anthony Rizzo, and the tribulations (and occasional triumphs!) of being a Cub fan living in St. Louis. Kevin, Adam & Ken look forward into 2019 and make a sh*tton of predictions: Cubs MVP, breakout players, Game 1 playoff starter, regression worries, mid-season trade targets, playoff predictions, and most importantly: would you rather a team made of 2 Bryants, 4 Contrerases, or 8 Coghlans? Yes that was a listener question, and no, it wasn't asked by Will Ferrell's Harry Caray. Listen, subscribe, rate, review, tell a friend, and put it all on the dang Cubs! LET'S GOOOOOOO Follow us! The Cubs racist grandpa tried to ruin our week, but we won't let him - we're too psyched about the phenomenal Luke Hagerty story. There was also an interesting Tony Barnette signing, some Giants/Cubs trade rumors, and, uh, Gary Scott?! YES! It's a great talk with Cubs Den writer Ken Schultz, who pinch-hits for Adam this week.
